But for players who lose week 1 at Wimbledon, they might want a few matches before California.

I don't see the point of them being on clay. Surely some Hard MMs in Europe would be more useful for the run into the USO.

There's already more than enough hard court events throughout the year. Even though I personally have absolutely no interest in these clay MMs, I don't have anything against the clay specialists getting some more time on their favourite surface, while the top players take a well-deserved rest after playing two Slams within 6 weeks.

Such a stupid part of the calendar. There should be one extra week of grass tournies (two each week, 6 total leading up to Wimbledon). Then two weeks with nothing - or, if you have to have MMs, put them in the US or CANADA. ;)

I'd prefer one week break, and then straight into the big boy tournies.

Not increasingly rare. There haven't been many grass courts for a long time now and it's not decreasing or increasing. The arguments for grass were lost a long time ago when there was a big push to get rid of them with the cost of maintaining them. We should in fact be thankful that we have grass season at all. AO and USO ditched grass and at one time I thought they were all going and it looked like Wimbledon was considering it.

dsanders06
Jul 15th, 2010, 12:21 AM
It's pretty obvious that the WTA are making both Williams sisters play an International each year to compensate for skipping the now mandatory Indian Wells - Acapulco for Venus both the last two years, Marbella for Serena in 2009, and originally for this year too, but she withdrew due to injury, therefore Istanbul instead. Therefore, she won't withdraw, but she'll probably tank in the QF's at the latest.

I think it is a good choice for Dani and Marion.

They're all premier level or higher tournaments so it's a really good chance to pick up a lot of points :yeah:

Marion will probs retire from one tournament, but so be it.
Hope she plays all 5 :yeah:
