Poor Aniko. Such great groundstrokes...shame she can't be bothered to be in shape.

Why poor Aniko? She's a professional athlete. It's her job to get her ass into the gym, and she's obviously not doing it.

Just some random notes to end with;

Patricia Mayr was just awful and this can be illustrated by the fact she hit someone in the crowd when trying to put away an overhead. :lol:

Niculescu vs. Diatchenko was probably the best quality match I saw. Vita got out of the blocks really well and went into a 4-1 lead. At the start, she was overpowering Niculescu and was producing some brilliant winners, particularly cross-court, but for a change, I was actually quite impressed with Monica's temperament as she stayed calm and level headed (by her standards, at least!) even though she was being outplayed at the start.

As per usual, she was slicing a lot and putting the ball into difficult positions for Diatchenko, who was becoming visibly frustrated by her unorthodox game and defensive skills. Out of the matches I saw (granted I missed both of Beltrame's matches), Niculescu attacked the net the most and she even served & volleyed successfully on some points. Diatchenko unquestionably has the ability of a top-100 player but she can get down on herself quite quickly.

I always thought Sophie Lefevre was the most out of shape player on the tour but Aniko Kapros, quite literally, takes the biscuit. :tape: I was watching Sanchez vs. Queen Bea and Kapros was warming up on a nearby court and the person next to me gasped in astonishment when he saw her! :help:

The British girls seemed quite nervous, particularly Broady and Cavaday. Broady was making a lot of cringeworthy mishits and shanks on the forehand side and Cavaday definitely wasn't playing her best tennis either. She was hitting a lot into the net but on the whole, she was being outplayed by Hlavackova, whose first-strike tennis is tailor-made for grass. :drool:

I caught the end of Larsson vs. Karatantcheva and the last rally was so intense. It must have been about a 40-stroke rally! Poor Jo-La was in tears at the end of the match but I saw her laughing really hard with Meusburger the next day and I walked by, Jo-La was heading back to the locker-room and she joked to Yvonne, ‘am I your slave or what?!’

Out of all the players I saw, Mirjana Lucic wanted to qualify the most. She was tremendously psyched up in both of her matches and she didn’t exude any negative emotion in the two matches I saw. Lucic played her first qualifying match on one of the show-courts (if you can call them that!) and I think the crowd warmed to her, even though she was playing a Brit. She wears her heart on her sleeve and this makes her really easy to support.

I was really disappointed Dokic lost her q2 match to Ditty. I saw all of her first round match against Klaffner and I was really impressed with Jelena’s attitude and work ethic. She fought for every single ball and never gave up, which bodes well after her CBA attitude from the Australian season and instead of blasting the ball, Jelena was constructing the points with much more coherence. I didn’t see too much of her match against Ditty but needless to say, she posed much more of a threat on grass compared to Klaffner. I didn’t think Jelena was hitting the ball as well as she was in her q1 match but I left the match at *2-0 in the third set because I assumed Jelena was going to win but obviously not... :sad:

Diatchenko, Pivovarova and El Tabakh are drop-dead gorgeous and Vita’s bark is :hearts: Pivovarova’s service action is very smooth and even though she has very exaggerated take-backs on her groundstrokes, I thought her game seemed to translate well to grass. I didn’t see her double-bagel loss to Eleni D but I’ll give Nastya the benefit of the doubt and say she had an off day.

Anna Floris’ coaches are TREMENDOUSLY annoying and Chakhnashvili’s coach chain-smokes. :o

I overheard a couple of ball-boys chatting and after Halep chucked her racket in her match vs. Yakimova, they were saying one of the women in a q1 match smashed her racket and because it made a crack, she had to pay a fine but instead of agreeing to pay it, she insisted on playing with it but in the very next point, her racket broke completely. :spit: I wondering who they were talking about?! :lol:

Unless you know exactly where the Wimbledon qualifying event is staged, it's virtually impossible to find. :help: Absolutely no signposts whatsoever and having left my hotel at circa 10.45am (the receptionist sent me in the wrong direction, which didn’t help!), I eventually arrived about three hours later. I ended up taking a taxi and even he dropped me off at the wrong place!

Well, that was kind of my point with the whole "shame she can't be bothered to be in shape"...

Can't agree with you more.

I ended up in the middle of a housing estate at the back of the tennis thanks to the Bus Routeplanner website. There was a gate that I tried to open before realising that it led directly onto the court and the players were beginning to look at me, and then when I asked a man how to get into the park he started laughing at me and it took about 30 more minutes until I got there. :help:

dokic looks tremendous. kapros too. these girls are a disgrace - there are hundreds more fit girls who actually want to win out there - they should have been given the chance to qualify.
