Azarenka's ROS is really outstanding. She played pretty well and dictated as much as she could. She is definitely in better form now and she is set for a decent Wimbledon campaign. Clijsters played badly but even in this match, you could see that the gulf in talent between the two is massive. I hope Marion wins the tournament.

If Kim doesn't like someone, I'm sure she does everything she can to hide it. She's extremely well liked on the tour and I don't think any player (maybe Henin...) has something bad to say about her.
I just feel like she hides her demonic feelings about these bratty youngsters with no respect and I did see a bit of tension when they played in Miami, but who knows, you might as well be right ;)

This is highly worrying for Clijsters as Azarenka does really nothing on the court to worry anyone.

First set Kim served very well for her standards. Really has improved her racquet head speed and the power on her 1st serve. Azarenka's horrible scoop FH could do little to return the slice on the deuce court with any threat.

She missed so many returns on Azarenka's 80 MPH topspin first serves which allowed Azarenka to hold countless service games without a relative struggle.

In the rallies Azarenka did her general benign hitting. Respectable depth, unimpressive pace right up the middle of the court and Clijsters tried to whack the ball, but her technique just falls apart when she tries to do that.

She didn't look to construct points much at all today, nor did she really look worried. Probably because she knew if she could just up her level 20% Azarenka would be thoroughly dismantled. This is what I was waiting on too, but unfortunately it never happened.

Azarenka is not the type of player you want to be losing to heading into a slam, especially on grass.

How interesting that whenever these two play, the lower-ranked person wins.

I don't think this was a complete tank job from Kim. I think she wanted to win in straight sets. I watched most of the first, and her absolute best stuff came when she was down those 9 set points. So many big first serves in, so many winners, especially from the forehand. She did a better job of focusing when down set point, and she did a better job of taking the ball early too. But she just wasn't consistent enough to close it when she had 6-5 (after 3-5), and after the first set was lost, I don't think she gave enough of a shit to want to battle back in 3. It's not a bad time to tank, really. She got her grass court practice. Now she wants to go after Wimbledon, fresh as a daisy. With the right draw, she could easily be in the semis or further there.

Having said that, I really do miss the Kim of 2003. That Kim would never have lost the last two matches she has lost since Miami. That Kim was a consistent SCRUB-KILLER. Oh well. Different priorities now.

Well I didn't say I wanted the Justine of 2003 back. Because Kim has been doing well enough against the current Justine - choking, but eventually closing in 3rd set tiebreaks. And she's been perfect, 3-0, against the Williams in official tour matches, n'est-ce pas? So she's doing well against those who used to OWN her in 2003. I just wish she had the same success against the rest of the tour, who she used to OWN in 2003.

almost the only thing Kim hit, was UE's. And yes, her leg with her racket ;). Like someone said before, I'm worried for Wimbledon also. There is something wrong with her attitude imo, she seems to be too relaxed and too self-conscious, instead of being in the 'zone' and putting all of her aggression and focus into the match. Perhaps she is taking matches too lightly in a way due to traveling with her family and she is too much of a tourist (like she said she wouldn't be when she announced her comeback). Somehow she seems to have forgotten her own aggressive career-I-self when she was on her own responsible for winning matches. I don't believe the balance between tennis and family is well outbalanced right now, and she needs to put more aggressive energy into her matches.
Only rarely have I seen the former Kim, only some rare flashes of her familiar shots. She is still not as good as she was before, despite what people have been saying. I never believed she was better than before, in whatever sense.
Go Kim! Don't be so careful! (And don't take too much risk on important points on the other hand , applying aggression on the wrong moments, please.)

Congrats, Vika! Well done, girl!

Kim is a rhythm player and doesn't deal well with inconsistent and irregular bounces. You can tell she was struggling to adjust her timing and her strokes with the bounces. It was kinda the same yesterday but her opponent is useless. I officially declare her a dark horse at best for Wimbledon. She actually might have had a bigger shot at RG this year than Wimbledon and imo it was a stupid decision to tank the whole clay season (probably the Justine fear factor had something to do with it). For those who are worried about her : wait for the summer HC season. I actually didn't think she was passive today, and that's always a good sign.

!
I don't quite agree with that, her play in last year's US Open, especially her semifinal match, was absolutely outstanding, mentally she was much stronger than before and she was sooo consistent, moved beautifully and was consistently looking to attack while defending perfectly, to me it was one of her finest performances ever:worship: And this year in Miami she was again incredible, especially her 4th round against Azarenka and her QF afainst Stosur, were very high quality matches, quite close to her 2005 summer and 2009 US Open level if you ask me!! But mentally, she showed great improvement I thought, even though she can still work on that. I guarantee you she would have lost these 2 matches to Justine if those were in 2006-2007.

And I TOLD ya:

The power of evil is so understimated these days.

I like Vuvu renka because she is feisty and doesnt fold like some players, she will be in your face and Kim expected her to bow down to her.She was moving Kim like a rag doll...and those bad bounces at Wimbledon will not help mommy dearest..

"Expected her to bow down?"What BS. And Vika kind of bowed down in Miami

I am so glad Kim lost. I am tired of all this nonsense about how sweet and nice Kim is. Good riddance!!

I don't care about people acknowledging the fact that Kim is nice. She is - very- and its a good thing. What I object to is the general view that these traditional greats should be mopping the floor with the rest of the tour because Kim, Justine and Serena are so much better than everybody else. WAKE UP - they aren't anymore. Azarenaka, despite her slump in recent months, is really GOOD. Sometimes scarily so. The days when top players could be a little off and still win without too much trouble is over.

What people keep calling a "HOT mess" when the top players get taken down is merely the manifestation of more talent parity on the tour. I just don't understand the whiners.

Where it matters, they usually are much better than everybody else, with some exceptions of course.

I´d say this is actually good for kim. I thought she might peak too soon here in eastbourne, now it might still be wimby.

almost the only thing Kim hit, was UE's.

This is not a Grand Slam, not even a Premier Mandatory or Premier 5. Don't worry, her attitude will be different and she will do well at Wimbledon :)

She has never done really well at Wimby, ofcourse she will win a few rounds but if Kim goes deeper into the draw , against Serena, Maria, Venus or Henin , she will chase the ball but , that isn´t enough

:spit: Kim was bad today-inconsistent serving, inconsistent backhand, and didn't do much with her returns  Credit to Azarenka though, who returned well and really controlled a lot of the points with her depth and considerable pace. I don't agree with some of the posters here who say Azarenka has "no weapons" Sure, she's not the hardest hitter on tour, but when she times the ball well, she can get a lot on her groundies.

It's clear Clijsters doesn't like the inconsistent bounces on clay and grass, and she loves hardcourts because she can get into a rhythm. We should also take into account that Clijsters hasn't played a real match on grass since 2006 (no point in counting her hit and giggle Wimbledon exo last year), so she did well to reach the QF

looking forward to Azarenka vs. Bartoli, and hoping that Kim can reach the QF at Wimbledon :)

Kim was serving *4-3 30-0 in set 2. In a big match, you have to win the set from there.
But Kim had 3 df's that game, a lot of errors the last 3 games, banged her racket on her shoe and went and got another.
Didnt seem to play this like she had to get to set 3

2009 Winner - The Pushing One
2010 Winner - The Shrieking One?

Plus, 2007/2006 Winner was The Evil Witch. You see now, Eastbourne is such a wicked place. Not even Saint Kim's white magic could dispel this evil curse.

Happy and sad at the same time being a fan of both players. Vika probably needed the win more given recent form, but I'm really worried about her knees, looked like she had the patella's strapped.

It makes no sense for her knees to be injured though, she doesn't play a whole heap of tournaments nor does she does she run that much in her matches. So neither her scheduling nor game style are exactly conducive to what looks like tendonitis

Kim

Azarenka is so unlikable :barf:

That totally sums it up for me
Azarenka - I'm getting so irritated by these screeching barbies who've invaded womens' tennis of late! So we had that on one side of the net and a very "can't be arsed" looking Kim on the other. If I'd been there I would have asked for my money back ..... Lets hope for better things at Wimbly next week.

Congrats Vika. (And rather ironic that she would be the one referred to as a screching 'Barbie' when dear old Kim is the one who has cloyingly immortalised in plastic no less... But whatever.) Remains to be seen whether or not this result has any bearing on Wimbledon or not.

Actually, good point! For obvious reasons, my mind has blotted out the unfortunate Kimmy doll episode . Even so, Kim's lapse in taste and judgment back then doesn't excuse Azarenka's awful screeching.
