Coin also served for the match in the 2nd.

Okay, it is clear, Alex is not the player on grass she is on clay. On clay she is top 20 standard easily, maybe top 10. But on grass she is still a rank novice. This was in fact her 1st ever professional match on grass and for sure she has a lot to learn.

But one thing that Alex takes with her to every surface she plays on is her never say die attitude and her williness to fight even in less than familiar comfortable conditions. And it is those qualities, along with her intelligence and eagerness to learn and improve that will see her getting better on grass year by year.

Coin is hardly a great grasscourter, or anything close to it, but this is her 5th season playing on the green stuff and she did qualify too, so she had the big edge experiencewise. So this was definately a wonderful very positive start to what is essentially Alex's 1st ever grasscourt campaign. I don't expect a lot from her this year but every W she can muster on this surface will help her to continue to progress as a player both in the short term and even further on in her career. :)

Well done Alex :yeah:

May I ask what her first professional match on grass was? Because her match in Birmingham was played indoors last year.
Quite an important victory for Alex on the green stuff! :woohoo:

I can. But it will take a little time. She has a lot of things going for her on this surface. Quick reactions, good court instincts in terms of where to move, nice touch, good volleys, good returns and a adequate serve.

But more than that, she has a great attitude. There are players, and quite often those who are good on clay, who take a "this surface isn't for me I'm never going to be any good here so why try too hard on something I'm only going to play on very rarely anyway" attitude.

I don't for a second believe Alex will be one of those players. She will look at this surface as a challenge and be very eager to be the best player on grass she can be. And that kind of attitude will I believe pay dividends.

Actually Ballbasher is right. It is her 1st. She did not play Eastbourne last year. She pulled out and was replaced by Poutchek. Those scores you have are infact correct but it was Poutchek not Dulgheru who played these matches. In addition, her match in Birmingham last year was moved indoors due to rain.

Alex still has been a Doubles finalist, when she played Wimbledon in Juniors.
In '06 Singles:
SF Gerry Weber Open
R3 Roehampton
QF Wimbledon

In '06 Doubles:
W Gerry Weber Open [w. A. Radwanska ]
R1 Roehampton [w. Antoniychuk]
F Wimbledon [w. Antoniychuk]

So in her early age she had some success on grass. :p
