Yes. MM is derogatory. Of course these tournaments arent worth a Major or a Top Tier - but they still need to be won against good players. There's more depth in WTA these days.

So that means a good preparation for Wimbledon and it'll give us a chance to see if Maria's form and mental strength has really increased over the last months. Maria go for it, make it your 23rd title and show the world they need to fear you again on grass.

It's sad to say but I agree in a way.

It looks like she's used clay to her advantage the last few years by using more spin, being more patient and sliding more. She gets more time to set up her shots. While on grass she has looked sluggish and it's easier for her opponent to get her on the move, and get the first strike. Maria on the other hand hasn't looked as deadly and fast on grass at all.

If she has a horrible Wimbledon again this year it probably means that grass has become her worst surface. But we're not there just yet, for now at least.

Hmmm.

Maria's performances on grass have been good up until the past two years. One where she was going into the injury, the other where she was coming out of it.

Her previous losses were to Venus (twice), once when Maria hadn't played for 4 days beforehand due to rain, and to Mauresmo, once, when she was being heavily attacked by Inverdale and the media in 2006.

So don't write Maria off grass yet. I think if it weren't for Venus, she'd have 3 Wimbledons now.

Masha is still an incredible grass player. Bad luck past 2 years.

I've also worried about Maria's grass game, I think as she's got taller she doesn't move as well on it as she used to be able to, and the low bounce suits her even less. But I guess these next two tournaments will show us, I still think she can be a great player on grass, especially if she continues to serve as she has been.

I think she'll be fine. Dulko was just playing really well last year and Maria wasn't playing too badly (unlike her other early slam losses) but her service motion wasn't really doing her any favours (I think she had 3 DF's in a row in the 3rd set).

First, there were holes in the cover, so it leaked. THen the grass was too long, the lawnmower was broken or missing, and no one in town had any sheep to eat the grass. Now there are "damp spots" which they hired some local kid to mop up with a towel. They should have it just about dry by the time it rains.
