View Full Version : French crowd is too much

they just loudly booed Justine for questioning a close out call. Maybe that will shake her up a bit and allows Maria to push it into the third set.

The booing messed with Justine's game. She hit about 8 unforced errors in a row and lost the set.

Oh what a shame.

They booed Sharapova earlier in the match for questioning a call. They boo everyone who questions a call, changes a racquet, has a tantrum or does anything that delays play or takes away from the tennis. It's not just darling little Justine who gets the brunt of the crowd.

They were booing the umpire for calling Justin's ball out after she had checked the mark. The crowd is predominantly on Justin's side

Justine's game today is not really convincing tbh.

Someone even whistled during a second serve ball toss, causing her to DF. Good thing she held and went on to break after!

Henin still being coached?

What a surprise;)

Her fans keep saying if the umpire did not call it, it must NOT be an illegal coaching.
Carlos will keep doing as long as he can get away with it.
He does not think Henin can figure things out by herself.

Everyone is coaching. The umpires do nothing about it too. When Verdasco was being coached, the umpire said to him to go tell his coach to stop coaching him whilst on court. Idiot.

The whistle was bad, and completely unnecessary. The umpire should've told the crowd to be quiet whilst the player's are serving.

Too true.

I really don't think that's the only way to get into a match, but...oh well.

No he was escorted from court for shouting or something. The commentators said that, but TV had just switched from another court, so I didn't hear or see what he did to get kicked out of the stadium. There was like 6-10 people walking up to him making sure he got off the stadium.

They boo'd the umpire for calling it out, but w/e They dont need an excuse to boo. They just do. They are Animals..... That guy whistled during Pova's serve at 3-3.... 15-30. Disgraceful... I always find it funny that europeans try to talk about American behavior when they have the french and the italians to put up with....

NO, they started booing as soon as it was overruled and got louder when the ump got out of the chair, then hushed up when they realized she was right. Imagine if she had been wrong. The animals would have gone wile.

I wont get into the coaching cause that arguement is just Old at this point. but yeah.. that was ridiculous. I wonder if she had served it if she would have gotten a let? I think in the first set a bird flew by and Justine got a let.(even though it went in)

As the wise Maria Sharapova once said to the french crowd

''Up your fuckin' ass!''

Seriously worst crowd in the world, stupid idiots, worst grand slam with the worst crowd, I just hope that a week after Roland Garros there's an exho at the Philippe Chattrier Stadium with the usual french crowd, between Florent Serra and Aravane Rezai, and a meteor crashes there. That would make me happy :)

Italian footbal fans are known to call black players monkeys, bringing bananas with them to imitate monkey gestures.

This is not limited to opposite players either, they do to their own club if they think these players did not do enough in their team loss

I think WTA fans aren't used to there actually being enough people in the stands to create noise. I like a bit of atmosphere and the people caring about a match, rather than just waiting for the womens match to finish so the men can come out!

But for sure they were NOT booing Henin; it was the call, and the ump.

i think the french realize the absurdity of hitting a ball over a net and taking it seriously and therefore treat it derisively to "bring it down a peg"

I love the RG boo'ing :sobbing: It makes it the hardest slam to win mentally because you have to fight the crowd unless you're French or Justine Henin.

Allez-H
May 30th, 2010, 08:50 AM
Trust me, they weren't booing Justine. I can only remember them booing Justine shortly twice;

Round 3 vs Virginie Razzano in 2001: She questioned a call, got booed for like 2 seconds, ump came down and saw Justine was right, Virginie held up her hand to excuse herself towards Justine and that was the end of it.

Acceptance speech 2005; She thanked the sponsors and got booed. Mary P. got booed earlier for the same reason. Apparently it's a big no-no to thank sponsors in speeches

Considering the French crowd has been hostile towards all sort of players (including their own) Justine has been very lucky to have their undivided support the last decade.

Yes Justine is very lucky to have had their support for so long. They boo anyone including past champions (Nadal, Serena, Sanchez Vicaio) and their own (Pierce, Mauresmo during a choke, Leconte). It's absurd and you just have to laugh sometimes.

Those that make noise seem to be the ones from above, hence them making noises, because from up there I doubt you can even see a ball out. As for those that sit pretty close to the court, they rarely ever make any noise because they probably have a better view on the lines.

In my experience, many Europeans think Americans are really nice, if not a bit loud and ignorant. And given our average volume level and test scores, this viewpoint is probably not far from the truth.

Most times I have gone to Europe people have treated me nicely after I told them I was American. Back in the Bush years when many Europeans hated US politics, they just assumed I had no idea who the US president was or that there was a war in Iraq. They were also really grateful I was not British. British tourists seem to have a terrible reputation.
