Both can win. I think Caro has the easier chance, though. She just has to be her usual consistent self in order to win. Flavia would need to be really aggressive to pull off the victory.

So I'd say Caro has the bigger chance of winning.

Agreed ;)

Flavia could win if she plays as agressive as she has been playing all week [] But I don't see why so many people say she'll surely win (except for blind dislike of Caroline). Caroline leads the H2H 2-0, including a win on clay. Flavia better come out playing well to take this.

Corswandt
May 30th, 2010, 01:51 AM
Wozniacki managed to expose some weaknesses in Pennetta's game (relatively poor movement, court positioning) during their Bastad match - but for that she has to play much like she plays against Dementieva, looping the ball high up from corner to corner over and over again with metronomic precision. Not sure if she'll be up to it tomorrow.

Pennetta has to go out of her comfort zone to take this (i.e. she has to try to play closer to the baseline and take the ball earlier than she usually does), but she can do it if she goes for her shots and doesn't let herself get dragged into a battle of attrition (serve won't be a factor).

Pennetta for the win.

Relatively poor movement from Pennetta? I've never thought that. Maybe she was just having a bad day. I do agree with your assessment of what Pennetta needs to do to win, though.

I think it's up to Pennetta to take the win. Be aggressive and win the points. If she can't do that (which is a distinct possibility), Caro wins.

I don't think it is as clear cut as that. Flavia has been very aggressive this week, transitioning strongly and has been returning extremely well. As Corswandt said, she stands a chance if she continues in that frame of mind.

I've painfully watched Flavia hit through Venus enough times to know that she's capable of doing the exact same thing to Wozniacki.

It's also the fact that Caro lacks that special something other top players have. She doesn't have Serena's physical power or Henin's natural court sense or whoever's whatever. Still, she has managed to become a star by making the most of what 'mediocre' talents she has. It rubs certain mediocre people the wrong way because she's a reminder of what they could have accomplished themselves if they had worked hard at it but didn't.

Hmm...I don't know if I'd go that far.

I think she's a great tennis player. You can't play like she does and reach #2 without being really good. She is a really solid player, very athletic and consistent. I don't think she is mediocre at all.

That's exactly what she's been doing all week, and it's the one thing that makes me think she could possibly win this.

And you're always saying Flavia has relatively poor movement, and I still don't know where you get that from. Her movement is fine. It's just, when she's played a long string of matches, it usually breaks down a little, causing her game to crumble. That's why she has these bad scorelines after a great run sometimes. If anything, it proves her movement is good, and crucial to her game.

Day 8 preview; http://www.sonyericssonwtatour.com/news/20100529/roland-garros-day-8-preview_2256076_2061720

[14] Flavia Pennetta (ITA #15) vs. [3] Caroline Wozniacki (DEN #3)
H2H: Wozniacki leads 2-0
2010 W-L record (All surfaces/clay): Pennetta (26-10/12-3) Wozniacki (26-10/14-5)

Wozniacki has now reached the fourth round or better at the last four Grand Slam tournaments, and indeed is through to this stage at Roland Garros for the first time. So far this week the 19-year-old's problematic ankle has held up well enough, but she certainly won't want it preying on her mind as she strives for her 200th career win against a classy opponent. After winning the title at Marbella in April Pennetta's Roland Garros preparations went flat (at least in singles) but she remains one of the most accomplished clay courters around, her seven titles on the surface placing her fourth amongst active players. Curiously, this is just the second time the 28-year-old has done this well here, but with the pressure on her teenaged rival she might just fancy her chances of a breakthrough.

To be fair, I liked Caro Flavs match,it was better than soderling cilic. Anyway true, the crowd applauded flavia for saving double mp and when she lost the third one, everybody was disappointed but applauded both women. Great crowd today on the Lenglen, really. Flavs has really been growing in me lately, today she became one of my faves, I loved her match, a shame she lost it but kudos to Woz who is lesser and lesser pushers imo. I left a comment earlier about Woz but it was stupid because when I watched Sod-Cilic, I realized they were barely making long rallies. Caro and Flavia were, that s why they made many faults. But it was enjoyable. Woz more aggressive, Flav fighting hard with great dropshots.. It was good. When Flavia won the 2nd set, the crowd applauded although they were waiting Soder. It says a lot.

They wanted Flavia to save triple mpr,to keep the drama going. We love drama lol. Justine is clearly the crowd favourite, I cant imagine how it would be if she was french. But except the frenchies, JuJu and Fed, they love especially drama and crazy matchs a la Verdasco vs Kohl.
