Rezai's a fighter :worship: They're both fighting hard actually, such a shame it had to stop now.

The 'Allez!' off the double fault was a little much from Rezai, though I laughed out loud.

Vintage Petrova on that first match point, right down to serving with the fault ball that came back to her.

Go Rezai! Finish her off.

May 28th, 2010, 07:47 PM
Lovin it! Rezai is SO brave and Petrova has been far tougher (in the head) than I expected, though maybe that shanked DF on MP suggests otherwise.

Matches likes this are SO fab, especially in GSs and the WTA needs it. I also think Rezai is good for the womens tour. Love or hate her, I think many would agree. She has LIFE!

After watching this you begin to wonder what was the logic behind ES's decision to show Dementieva's snoozefest over this? :weirdo:

Amazing tennis :worship: Too bad both can't win. I'm rooting for Nadia all the way and it's painful to watch how a woman with her serve and her groundstrokes is choking so badly :tears:
As for Aravane, screaming allez at the top of her lungs on Nadia's DF on MP was beyond pathetic. Still, I'm amazed at how well she can play

Don't be so sure. If it follows the Monfils parallels, she will lose- i.e. opponent asks for stoppage, does not get it, saves MP at night, etc.

The best hour of tennis this year just happened with Dementieva/Wozniak, Kirilenko/Kuznetsova and Rezai/Petrova all with simultaneous dramatic 3 setters.

I think I can say France has made complete fools of themselves. We are losing quality matches to rain and darkness. Somebody tell France the year is 2010. A great match from Petrova and hometown lady Arvane Rezai and we have to wait until tomorrow to finish the match. France, what a mess you have created this week. Get a new stadium or surrender the French Open to another country.

Rezai's choke on one of her MPs (the second one?) was of EPIC proportions. It would cost her a match against any other player. But since she plays Petrova it will have no consequences.

Classy Caravane to win 76 46 97.

P.S.
Despite all my negative feelings towards Rezai the match is great. WTA desperately needs such intense, hardhitting battles.

When your opponent hits a DF, c'mon is not an automatic response. It's the basic etiquette of tennis not to cheer on one of the most embarrassing UE's in the game.

Btw, did Rezai really attempt to point out the wrong spot in the 1st set?

For as much trouble as Nadia was having with her serve at the end of the 3rd, Rezai was having even more trouble. A day will make a difference, though. I just don't understand Nadia's body language. I think she has spurts of brilliance, then she takes way too long to get back into her groove. It's just not the right rhythm to be able to close out a big match like this. I imagine Rezai will win, but would be pleasantly surprised if Petrova managed to squeak out the win.

Nadia has to consult her coach, hold her nerve, and get some fricken first serves. Use that supposedly, third-best serve in the game. Easy to say. Of course, hyper Rezai might also do that. But...Allez, Nadia.

In a way yes, but that proves her strong mentality for me. Mathilde Johansson just broke down in front of the crowd last year, couldn't handle the pressure of playing a home slam in front of thousands of supporters. It takes heart to use the crowd in your favour.

And this forum is full of ignorant people too.

I saw what I saw. You obviously didn't.

In the first set, Rezai pointed to the wrong mark ( a mark that was out) to rob Nadia of a point and she did this on several occassions. She actively pointed to the wrong mark. Now that's cheating. Luckily the umpire had her beady eye on which the right mark was.

There's a difference between questionning calls and blatant cheating.

Rezai is a good tennis player, she is trying to win the match maybe too much by cheating like that and so her attitude is horrible.

But hey, if you want to call someone a drama queen for pointing that out then thats your perrogative.

It means she moved to the place around where Nadia hit her ball, and pointed to a mark that was nowhere near where Nadias ball landed, trying to pass off a "mark" (that was outside the sideline) as Nadias shot.

She did it on more than one occasion and she was the closest one to the line(s) when this happened, yet video replay would CLEARLY indicate the ball being in. And so, because Rezai was the closest one to the line, it'd make you'd think she'd point to the correct mark. She didn't. This happened on more than one occassion. There's no question who was better today:
winners/UE
Nadia 62/39, Caravane 37/40
if there's any justice Nadia should win.
They are scheduled to play at Chatrier not before 12 AM, and i think it's really ridicolous.

ooh btw, Caravane as annoying as Oudin is.

Oudin is a kid though, and shes not malicious. Im not a fan at all, but she never struck me as anything more than a nuisance, Rezai just steps over the mark.

Now, unless she has sight problems which I don't think she does because she can play tennis well, she's an obvious cheater.

The only explanation you provided is that she went to the wrong mark "actively" and did it on more than one occasion.

I understand that the fact that she did it more than once leads you to believe she did it purposely. Trust me, I get it. Not really what I was asking you, but I understand where you're coming from.

I really will need to see this for myself, I'm quite curious now.

You dopes are presuming that the umpire has an obligation to rely on what a player says about where a mark is. Ump's job is to watch where the ball lands. Aravane's is to play the point. McEnroe used to argue line calls all the time. Players call what they see, and sometimes your eyes play tricks on you. You're just building straw man arguments against a player against whom you're already clearly prejudiced.

I'm just as inclined to believe she's probably just a shitty line caller, combined with the fact that she may have seen these marks more with her heart than anything.

I won't argue with the fact that her sportsmanship could be under question. It doesn't take much to get this board into a total frenzy.

But as far as being biased and "choosing" not to see it, that goes both ways. Many of the people in here bitching about Aravane pointing out wrong marks already disliked the girl greatly before this match. You think they have a completely objective eye towards it all too? You're wrong.

Honestly though I haven't actually seen what went down, but I just have a hard time believing Rezai would do that on purpose. Maybe I'm ignorant to what she's capable of, but I just don't see her like that.

Ofcourse I can only speak for myself, but I actually like Rezai's game and her feistiness. I think Her run to the Madrid title was the most exciting part of the clay season this year and she appeared sweet in her acceptance speech.

That being said I was just disgusted by her behavior today. She has no class whatsoever. She obviously didn't have a very good upbringing and she deserves to lose this match.

 Yeah I have a love-hate thing with the nickname.

I hate militarism in all forms, and Iran as a military force right now :tape:

The Matron  Eternal Bridesmaid is another fitting nickname.

In the real world outside the tennis court, Rezai("The Iranian Soldier")would be making the mistake of her life trying to slug it out with "The Matron." Patrova would probably make a better soldier than some of the men out there. She looks like she could crush somebody with her hands. Patrova may be a choker at times, but when she is on, she can beat anybody and serve with the best.

Through it all, Rezai insists in outpunching the "The Matron." It's almost like Rezai looks like she is fighing a war out there for her country, but what country, lol? Rezai is a terrific player, who should appreciate the French fans spilling out their love for her today.

I watch Rezai and I can tell she wants people to like her. I think she should keep her personality, since the WTA does need a shot of adrenalin. I would give anything to see a rematch between "Shake EM UP Janko" and Rezai. The crowd would be in a frenzy. They would be booing Jankovic all match long. I would love to see Jankovic win the match and raise both hands in the air telling the french crowd" I just saved the world." Jankovic may not be number 1 or 2, but she is the best character in tennis since Martina Hingis, lol. :)

You need to watch it. I mean, it wasn't like she picked a mark four feet away, but she would stalk up to it and circle a mark 4-5 inches away, it was very obvious. And then every time Kramer went and confirmed a call, she bitched to her. I'm pretty sure Kramer told her it wasn't the correct mark several times too.

The thing that annoyed me even more was the ridiculous celebrating after doublefaults. :tapes:

But I admit I dislike her and am not completely objective. :D

Please Nadia win this match. Can´t stand Rezai, celebrating on opponents unf errors and double faults. She criticizes the other players attitude on court, like she did last year to Michelle to put the crowd on her side and totally against Michelle, but her own attitude is far from being good.
I never liked players who constantly celebrate opponents unf errors and doubles, because they do that to make the opponent get even more nervous/angry.
Rezai is playing well, but sorry it´s just that. Don´t like her...

Look, it's a Grand Slam match -- there's so much going on and the adrenaline is pumping (the crowd's going crazy). It was thrilling just watching the scores on my computer. Rezai's enthusiasm shouldn't be read as celebrating Petrova's errors, but celebrating staying alive in this tournament (so far anyway). She's young and she'll learn, but right now she's exciting to watch! Go Aravane!

No, Michelle doesnt celebrate her opponent double faults neither the errors with an Allez or a stupid scream, in fact she is the one doing both the errors and the doubles during her matches, she doesn´t even give time to her opponent to do many errors. Other thing is that you may be doing some confusion with celebrating forced errors and celebrating stupid unf errors. Michelle does the first one, Rezai does on both plus in the double faults.
I´m not here to atack Rezai or defend Michelle but if im watching a match between Venus and Rezai and after some points i start to cheer for Venus, it´s because Rezai has really something i can´t stand.

See, but information like that leads me to believe that it might just actually be her genuinely not knowing where the mark is. Would she really purposely go to the wrong mark, have the ump check it, then keep bitching once the ump corrects her, knowing that she was wrong to begin with? Like, you'd think if she really did know she was pointing at the wrong mark, she wouldn't keep arguing it after the fact.

Maybe I just assume the best in people when I shouldn't. In any case, this is so blown out of proportion it's ridiculous, everything she says and does is ever since she won in Madrid.

And I'm actually curious about this "cheating" reputation that Aravane has evidently garnered. Prior to this pointing at the wrong marks crap, when has she cheated exactly? This isn't a question directed at you Ry, just anyone. I don't consider incessant fist pumping on opponent's errors as an answer there. Nor is complaining about MLDB's banshee grunts. I wouldn't say she cheated. But she knew where the marks were, there's no doubt in my mind anyway. It was pretty obvious to even the commentators. I think its being blown up abit, but its also valid to criticize someone for that - if you're not sure which mark is the right one, you don't open your mouth and look like a jerk.
