Aravane is hitting winners at will, how does anyone prepare against her,the only one I have seen play with so much aggression is serena and we know her by her results. In what frame of mind is venus watchingthis, she had better be!

Rezai is playing well but I think she is playing at a level that is a notch or two down from what we saw of her in Madrid. She was just plain scary there

Nadia lost her cool, and the set, because of Rezai cheating. I dont think Venus is as much a headcase.

Venus has to use controlled aggression & take time away from Rezai. Plus, she ABSOLUTELY MUST attack Rezai's serve. David Witt scouts players so I'm sure he's watching & Richard will have a game plan too.

With the crowd & Rezai's attitude, it could be a drama fest!

R u kidding? Aravane wasnt even playing that well the 1st set. And if Venus doesnt choke set points or a 5-2 lead like Madrid she will be fine.

Venus has to move really well and be prepared for those shots. And attack her 2nd serve.

I cannot see the match, but Nadia is still in this match. They are on server in the 2nd set.

If Venus were to play Rezai , Venus need to stays focus, alert and have both her serve and forehand working.
She has been doing tthat so far, and if she continues, she should be ok.

To be fair to Nadia , the French crowd and Rezai antics had a lot to do with it.

Venus already knows what to expect, not like Rezai has a strategy other than to bludgeon the ball.

She has weathered the storm and neutralized the external element in the match.
Now it is within her to be ready when the next episode comes.

I am sure, toward the end of the set, similar things could happen where both Rezai and the crowd attempt to get in her head

This is very true, against either of these players. Venus seems content to just go out there and rally and work the point this year, which has been great in the first few rounds. Both of these girls dont play clay court tennis and just go for broke. If they're on fire, Venus might need a new game plan.

Venus has an outside chance at the title. She has a very very good look at the semi-final at least. Wozniacki is playing well and could give Venus trouble, but other than that, Venus is probably the strongest player on the bottom half. She's playing top five tennis this tournament (Serena, Henin, Maria and Caro are in that group as well).

VeeJJ
May 28th, 2010, 08:39 PM
Venus can hit just as hard. She just has to hit deep and with good pace. I think if she rolled some balls short and wide that would work nicely giving her plenty of open court. Using angels would be very effective. So would some touch. Drop shots would be effective, Venus can surely cover the reply with her speed. Rezi is not anything that special. If she is angry she is gonna miss all the time. When she learns how to control her power well she will be a great top 5 player

'Scared' is a matter of expectation. If I'm Venus, my head is saying 'my worst surface, her best, she kicked my ass last time, worst case is a repeat. Swing free.'

This is a case where there's no pressure on either player. Or at least, wht little pressure there is, is roughly equal. Nobody truly expects either of them to win the tournament. Rezai is gonna have not just France, but a large percentage of the Muslim world watching. But she;s never even been in the top ten. Venus is an alltime great. But with one exception, she's never performed well at this tournament.

In short, regardless of the ooutcome, nobody loses 'face'.

This is just going to be a tennis match. I hate seeing Venus lose, but if she has to lose to somebody, this is who I'd pick. Throw the French a bone.

Go Venus! I realized two things during her match against Rezai in Madrid and in some of her previous matches:
- She changes her racket grip from white to purple and it worked in the second set.
- Everytime she has a first set point, she wastes it but then wins the second or the third one, curious huh?
I was constantly screaming go Venus during each set point only to get disappointed... :(

Hope she wins against Rezai or Petrova (I prefer Petrova), but I would like to see Venus kick Rezai's butt in revenge. I find this 4th round even more difficult than the QF!

I Veelieve =)

It'll be a tough match whoever she plays, but if Venus stays focused on each point, and especially each game, I think she'll be fine.

The thing is lately in these BIG matches Venus has brought so much nervous energy with her, which quickly leads to frustration.
