Serena played really well in the first set, both women had a bit of a lapse in the second.

Well done :yeah: 16 Winners/4 Ues

Okay, let me just start with the serious things first because I am laughing too hard right now.

Julia's game is so easily broken apart when she is rushed because her takebacks on both sides are so wristy and time consuming. She was handcuffed by Serena's barrage for most of the match except when she got a sitter due to her 1st serve. I was not really impressed.

Serena still serving her 2nd serve with much more conviction than in the lead up, but not much mixing of direction in this match. The length on the forehand is still suspect, but the consistency is improving. Highly, ultra aggressive return-of-serve carried over from her first match.

Now for the just TOO much section. :haha:

1) Lakeisha's outfit.
2) Oracene's faces.
3) Julia telling herself like Serena to "hit the fucking ball" after hitting a winner at 6-1 3-0.
4) Serena's merited groans and exclamations after hitting horrid FHs well out.

serena played well, goerges was her usual shit, hence the lopsided scoreline.

goerges has too big swings and too big grip changes to ever be a good player, she need time on the ball for the massive grip changes and swings and girls aren't gonna give her time on the ball.

Julia was overwhelmed by Serena. I'm actually surprised she managed that second game. Serena was good, focused, and killer.

From what I saw of this match I'm wondering how the heck Goerges had set points on Henin back in Stuttgart.

Goerges has all the best intentions in the world ball-striking wise, but her technique is so precarious on basically any type of groundstroke. Such severe grip changes from forehand-to backhand, that there's no fluidity or stability built in. It's just reckless ball-striking, with only a modicum of real timing. It's kind of hard to see such a disparancey between her first and second serve too. Just deaccelerates completely. Bull to a red flag for Williams, who had even more time on the ball than usual.

Thought Serena did a jood job of centralising the ball with sufficient enough depth and pace, without giving Goerges angles to craft some huge baseline winners from. The german looked totally bemused when having to just trade, without the possibility of a winner. Serena's transition game looked the most effective in months, looking to come in behind quality approach shots, instead of bluffing her way forward. Serena generally looked so much more eager and attuned than against Voegle. I think this form is promising for Serena.

I didn't like the sense of immediacy that serena had on court today though.. if she plays like that against top players she's going to end up making a lot of ue's

truth....but i'll say her 1st rd matches, esp. at RG tend to be a bit like her match this year with the 1st rd record on the line...she's admitted as much hence why i don't judge her tournament based on it

solid match ree...improve upon this form

Apologies for the random *bump*, but as I was watching this match I kept thinking it reminded me of something, yet it was only today that I found out what it was: Serena d. Vaidisova AO 2008. Absolutely no rallies, no flow, nothing. Just big serves, big returns, and awful misses. Görges simply can't handly pace.
