Cowboys Stadium to host Serena, Sharapova, Roddick

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP)—Jerry Jones has found another unique way to use his massive Cowboys Stadium. Tennis, anyone?

Six days after Wimbledon, the $1.2 billion stadium will host a pair of best-of-three matches, featuring Serena Williams against Maria Sharapova, and Andy Roddick facing John Isner.

The showcase, to be held on July 10, is called the Cowboys Tennis Slam and it is being billed as the inaugural event.

In addition to the NFL, Cowboys Stadium already has hosted the NBA All-Star game, a Manny Pacquiao boxing match, and soccer. Bull Riding is on the agenda this summer.

While the building can hold more than 100,000 people, it will be configured to hold 20,000 for the tennis matches.

Jerry Jones has plenty of it. He knows how to make money, he knows how to advertise, and he knows how to show off. The guy is a business man through and through. Good job on his part. Netting Serena & Maria, along with 2 of the most recognizable US Male tennis players today is very well played on Jerry's part.

A little advice for Serena; try to avoid Double J as much as you can (if you know what I mean).;)

So was she invited and she refused?

I don't remember Maria being in the picture at the the time... but I could be mistaken

They brought in Ivanovic because they needed another slam winner. Justine wouldnt go either. Serena was injured.

I love all the serena vs Maria matches! can't wait

BTW, it's a great opportunity for Maria to train against the best player. It's not a "true" match, so it will be a good training.

I hate watching exhibitions, they dont play as hard and most of the times just plays joke while playing.
It's not really worth my money.

I can guarentee you that Serena vs Maria will be very serious indeed. Can't say the same for the men's match, but those two girls want to WIN.
