Hardebeck is our top-ranked junior in the US :D She still needs to fill out physically a little bit more in order to become stronger, but I liked what I saw.

She looks like a younger Jessica Kirkland. Hopefully she will turn out better than her. ;)

Krista! :) Great win! Her shots are pretty unorthodox but she was hitting some wicked angles! This win should be great for her confidence! She plays another American junior, Nicole Gibbs, in the second round.

To add to the original poster, she is our top ranked junior according to USTA rankings, but not based on ITF rankings.

You never know. There have been quite a few successful players with unorthodox strokes. I'm not saying she'll go far, but her results are promising for as young as she is.

Good for her, but her strokes are awful to watch.

This was Sacha's first match back from recovering from a broken rib, I dont think we should read too much into this result. Congrats to young Krista anyway

That girl is so unlucky. :o Injury at the end of last year just as she was playing well and now a broken rib? I hope she starts playing well again.

She's kinda like Kimiko, except American and her strokes are nowhere near as nice.

I don't know if I can see that game standing up to the real pros (sorry, Sacha ).

Wow, she uses so much elbow in her shots. I guess there's still time to fix them, her strokes certainly aren't anywhere near as bad as the current world number three.

It is a good thing 99% of the WTA players only slice once per match. I'd love to see her try to handle some low balls with that stroke production.

I agree that she wouldn't be successful as a tour player right this second, but the fact she's only 15 and beating players like this is a very encouraging sign. She has plenty of time.

Hopefully she doesn't follow our current trend of US players who jump into the top 200 as teenagers and then stagnate there (Albanese, Haynes, Kirkland, Gullickson, Brengle, etc etc)

^ Agreed. With results like this at a young age, there is still a lot of time to tweak things and improve!

I saw Jessica in 10k Atlanta Q last year, she got a real nasty injury after her 50k win and is trying to be healthy.

It seems like a lot of the young American girls have no natural rhythm. They seem so stiff out there. Maybe they should take dance lessons.

Don't want to get too off topic chatting about Jessica, but is she calling it a career or is she still going to try and come back? I remember that attempt last year but she only played a couple tournaments. She would only be 22 I think, so there's still time, but I think I remember hearing that the injury that kept her out at first was really bad.

My brother told me she is at school atm.

i think she is still trying to come back. but if she does i dont think it will be as successful as her junior career and the start of her pro career.

Thanks for the info! That's so sad. She had such promise.

But back to Krista, she is on the list for Junior Wimbledon. It will be her first junior Slam!
