Caro went for her shot in the last 2 points.. interesting.

She did it in a couple of games in the second set too, but as soon as Li puts pressure on her she resorts to pushing again.

I said I feel for her, because this has to sting.. golden chance at a slam title, serving for the match over a super erractic opponent, gets to MP, and let's it slip. Must hurt.

I'm glad Ana is watching the match. Maybe she can get inspired by this.. truth is she can learn a thing or 10 with Nole right now. He is playing some awesome tennis with so much heart.

This is what you do when you play a big time opponent in a grand slam Ana, you attack and take your chances!

Pops Maellard

well, like i said, i would like her to win the whole thing (even though i like kim more), but i can understand caro fans. there seems to be hardly any neutral people when she plays, either you are a fan or you want her to lose. it's not easy for them.

Just great to see how much everyone here was cheering for Na Li.
I also wanted her to win and then indeed it almost feels like watching Ana.

Too bad Sevastova didn't took out Caro earlier, but this is great too.
Caro had 2 winners in set 1, then 8 in set 2 and none in the last set.
You don't have to go for your shot all the time, but this is just embarrasing.
That's the nr 1 of WTA. As person I have nothing against her and looks nice too, but with such a game I enjoy it when it fails.

I choose Clijsters to win it all, but if it's Li then it's ok as well.

Djokovic will probably take the title, but you never know with Murray.

Novak take a bow :worship: I hope he's finally earned the respect he deserves now, that's two LEGIT wins over the Fed consecutively, and he joins Rafa as the only man to beat Rog in consecutive slams. Well done and do your best on Sunday :)

 at you guys cheering for Na in this thread :p Not very nice :p I was rooting for her too though, she impressed me! Hope she plays Kim tough, I'm actually neutral for this final so that will be nice I guess :)

Yes.. Novak was awesome. I really hope Ana can take some lessons from that match.. I'm disappointed at so many poor performances at slams for her.. a slam is the moment you gotta up your level and play with heart and head, like Nole did. Ana, on the other hand, can't seem to up her level at slams nowadays, when it really matters. So I hope she saw the match as something to inspire her.

Yeah.. that one gotta hurt. Especially in the situation she is into, constantly being reminded she is a slamless number 1. And Caro strikes me as someone in deep need of being liked.. so it's another failure in that front as well. Tough.

But then again.. you look at her watching Murray-Ferrer, saying she wanted to learn things from the guys.. Only if it's to learn how to push more. :spit:

Murray's no pusher. :p Sometimes he plays like it but really he can do everything. I remember last year after losing the first set he won the second set S&V on almost every point. He does seem to have the same problem as Caro when it comes to passiveness in the tight moments though (hence his two slam final losses to Roger despite winning H2H over him).

Sharapovian
Jan 28th, 2011, 10:44 AM
Actually Murray was asked a question in one of his press conferences why he seems to play defensive a lot.

He said it's due his court positioning, often he gets pushed back by guys way behind the baseline, and it's very difficult to play aggressive if you're almost 2 feet behind the baseline

I know Murray is capable of some awesome tennis.. but he gets too passive too often. He has done his fare share of pushing in this match.

Yeah he is capable of playing great tennis, but he is a very tactical player, and if pushing works for him then he is happy doing it. He can bring out aggressive tennis at times as well.

We are ruining Ana`s picture thread so ...
What I meant is that if she is too nervous and too tense, the body gets naturally more fragile and prone to injuries. That's science. It can be a sign that she can't control her emotions and that is getting her more prone to little niggles here and there. I think some of these injuries wouldn't have happened if she had not been such a nervous wreck. She often injuries herself when playing a big time player.. Justine at Hopman Cup, Kim in Cincy, Venus at Wimbledon.. she gets so nervous about these matches.. probably because she wants to do well but doesn't trust herself or think she can actually do it.. muscles get more tense then normal, and prone to crack.

Maybe ,i also thought about that. But many players get tense, nervous WTA is full of that and they don`t get injured  So i think it can`t be all that

And as you said, she doesn't deal well with injuries at all. Another sign of her head failing her. She needs to learn how to block things and believe she can play well and win no matter what.

Very hard ,people can`t change that much imo .Just look at Novak who is way more composed than Ana.Whenever he has some kind of problem big or small one he totally loses his focus
Some people can put up with many things like Rafa and some people just can`t

Maybe ,i also thought about that. But many players get tense, nervous WTA is full of that and they don`t get injured  So i think it can`t be all that

Each player deals with nerves in a different way. With Ana it's just too much coincidence.. and it's hard to believe that exists. It's always before a tense/pressure moment.. an injury pops up. Or during a more nervy match. She never gets injured playing a scrub.. but gets all sorts of freak little injuries against big time players. She never gets injured before a MM, but always has something going before a grand slam. Her body often breaks down in pressure situations. A perfect example of how nerves directly affect Ana's body is how many dizzy spells she had for the last 3 years.

Not every player let's nerves get to their body. Ana clearly does.. and then that makes it more prone to injuries.

Very hard ,people can`t change that much imo .Just look at Novak who is way more composed than Ana.Whenever he has some kind of problem big or small one he totally loses his focus

Mmm.. I think people should learn from their mistakes and try to improve always. Novak's and Ana's issues aren't things to be proud of.. they should try to learn how to block things away, for their own good on court. Don't they always say they want to improve as players? This is one important thing to try to improve. There are actually exercises for that in sports psychology.

"Sorry", -he said sarcastically when Federer complained to him"...and then i read the last line and everything become much more clear to me -"Rumours continue to swirl that he is dating Ana Ivanovic. Regardless of result, the Djoker is the one who's laughing loudest". (Andrew Webster)

My favourite coach,Sven Groeneveld, had something to say too: "I heard the weather is changing,i think that will favour Andy,so -fingers crossed".

"Djokovic has withdrawn from numerous big matches over the years, which is indicative of his mental fragility" (Michael Burgess)

"It could be 34C when Djokovic walk out into the stadium. He can experience breathing problems and other physical difficultes in warm weather and couple of years ago Djokovic retired from his QF match against Roddick because of heat exhaustion" (Mark Hodgkinson)

And,of course, Ravi Ubha: "They(Ana and Nole)spent a few minutes chatting following thursday's SF - could they be more than friends,no matter what they say?"

I didn't want to read more, all articles are similar. Who,the fuck, cares about Novak being focused the whole week, the fact that he dropped only one set so far, that his serve is working and he has that winning feeling.I didn't expect aussie journos to be so openly against him. It's natural for them to root for Andy, but they are so sarcastic and full of hatred, some of them just humiliated his patriotism, health problems, fans and status in the ATP. you know what? I couldn't care less what they think. They lost all credibility after having read all these malicious and unprofessional comments. They should be ashamed of themselves. Oh, and after that NaGate press disaster, not to mention the one from today :o I have lost all respect for the AO organizers as well.

I know the world is full of people with prejudice, but you don't give them the opportunity to spill their garbage so freely.

Now I hope Nole takes it even more. Muzza is great and I don't like the fact Novak is playing him, but how can I not root for Novak after seeing how bitter those journos are.

True.. should be good for the likes of Murray and Caro to know that passive play doesn't win slams, no matter what. You will eventually face someone aggressive playing well. They can do a lot better, it's almost stupid to play that passive.

I have to say that while I'm thrilled to see Novak playing so well to win AO again, watching Ana at the box only made me think how I wish it was her winning and how I'm not sure that will even get close to happening again. Bittersweet.

You know, she had a look of longing on her face imo. How amazing it would be to have her back on the biggest stage of all, fighting her heart out for a piece of history

I'd say even more, Novak took this trophy exactly 3 years after winning his 1st GS here in Melbourne 2008. Ana reached it at RG '08 so maybe it is any SIGN for her and she'll take her 2nd GS after exactly 3 years like Novak did? Can you imagine it?
I'd love her so much to make it.. would be so great considering this picture..

It would be awsome indeed. But let's see...

Novak made the finals of the USO in 2007, and then won AO in 2008.

Novak made the finals of the USO in 2010, and then won AO in 2011.

Ana made the finals of AO in 2008, and then won RG in 2008.

Ana lost in the first round of AO in 2011.. end of the similarities.

RG is really anyone's tournament.. There is no dominant player on clay. And the best players of recent time are 100 times more vulnerable on clay. Kim's movement loses step.. Caro has it as her worst surface... Serena is a question mark. Zvonareva is surprisingly unefficient on red clay.. So I can see just about anyone winning RG. Pity Ana can't seem to see that window of opportunity.

So happy for Nole :cheer::cheer:

I saw this sentence at Wertheim latest article, and I can't agree more.

Here's the ugly truth about pro tennis. You can earn some points and some cash winning the garden-variety events. But reputations are made at the Majors.

she sent her mommy.

On a serious note, it happened just what I predicted in that GM thread. She has a big mouth, now it came back to bite her in the ass. She's nothing more than a hypocrite and a fake. A player those nationalistic dumbasses truly deserve. :bounce:

She said she would die for her country and that she would at least be there to support her team and now she's nowhere to be found, but I'm certain she has a valid excuse. When Ana does it, it' unacceptable. :o Talk about double standards.

There team consists of 2 former #1s, 2 multi GS champions & a dominating junior.

Maria's just :o. After the AO I started entertaining the thought that she might be done. This new career-low performance VS Razzano (9 winners and 40-something UEs) just makes me think that even more. :o

I have a sneak peak in neighboring subforum:smash: and i found this anthology:haha: comment made by our
friend Lepa Brena:I think Sneki's pissed becasue JJ's always been taken for granted - if it's mud-wrestling in some Bulgarian field to advance from the Group Z to Group Y, Jelena's going; if it's Serbian slumping sisters fighting on-form Kleybanova, Jelena has to die for her country and win. At the same time, Baby Anci plays only when her team deems it useful for her, and if she's slumping, she won't even try, she'll just sulk and self-destruct in 24 minutes and than say she thinks she played well.
To sum it up - the fact is that jelena single-handedly brought Serbia to the World Group (or whatever it's called), and Ana came and went as her team pleased. And still, they receive equal treatment, and even worse, Jelena gets all kind of crap from Serbian ancitards in medias - ''she creates drama, she wants more money, she's jealous because more people come to watch Ana, she lost a match........'' And I think it all became to much for Sneki last time, when they played Slovakia.
