Racket Bracket |2010|NCAA Championships

Playing Racket Bracket is simple and only takes a few minutes. Here is what you need to know:

This game is based off of F-I-T-D , or Fill-In-The-Draw.

1) Just post a full predicted draw for the tournament, including all winners in all matches of all rounds.

2) No commitments are necessary for the tournaments; simply post your picks in the thread!

3) You must post your full prediction must be posted before the first ball of the match is struck. Any draws posted after this time will not be counted.

4) Please post your picks in the form "A def. B", "A d. B" or "A over B", and not "A loses to B". Writing down the winner's name only is allowed, but it might make things confusing for us and you may lose points as a result, so please try to post as specified.

Please post players' full names, not nicknames.

6) When changing your picks, you must post in a new post, quoting the previous picks. NO EDITING UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES! (any edited post will not be counted, no exceptions!)

7) Please keep your picks as your own and DO NOT copy and paste other poster's picks. If you do this this will be taken as cheating and your picks will not be counted.

Feel free to ask questions! Good luck and have fun!

1. Baylor
Record: 27-2
Highlights: Big 12 Championship, Number 1 Rank
Why?: With only 2 losses of the season, Baylor has a solid line-up. They have only lost to North Carolina 2-4 at the National Indoors and an away match against Michigan 3-4. They have only 1 National Championship, a 2005 singles winner in Zuzana Zemenova. They usually go deep but falter at the end. Can they finally finish at the end???

2. University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill
Record: 26-4
Highlights: ACC Runner-Up, ITA Indoor Runner-Up, Number 1 Rank
Why?: The Tar Heels have gelled extremely well and have a great line-up led by Seniors Katerina Tsang and Sanaz Marand. The breifly held the number 1 ranking earlier in the year and with all 4 of their losses coming at 3-4, they show that they don't go easy. They also have 1 National Championship, a doubles win when Sara Anundsen and Jenna Long won in 2007. I have personally seen them play and they have the tools to win, but other teams stand in their way.

3. University of Florida
Record: 24-2
Highlights: SEC Winners
Why?: The hottest team in the country right now, who haven't lost a match since February. Led my freshmen Lauren Embree and Allie Will, they are a force to be reckoned with. They are on a 17-match winning streak. The have 12 National Championships, 4 in each team, singles and doubles. They got the Triple Crown (all events won) in 1995. They have what it takes, but will they flame out?

8. Stanford University
Record: 20-1
Highlights: Pac 10 Winners
Why?: The Cardinals are in NCAA history with their tennis program. They currently ride on a 13-match winning streak and at home, have won a record 161 consecutive matches (131 in the regular season). Their win count is "low" only because they decided against playing at the ITA Indoors. They have a total of 32 National Championships, 15 in team, 12 in singles and 5 in doubles. They also won the Triple Crown in 1990. They have a solid line-up and with their only loss a 1-6 match to UCLA, the Cards can do some damage.

Darkhorses:
- Defending Champions Duke
- Home team UGA
- Georgia Tech
- Michigan
- Northwestern
- California
- UCLA

It will be a great Championship, for sure! :hearts:

Thanks for doing this Dylan :cheer: I will edit this post with my team predictions soon! :bounce:

Could you also explain, perhaps in the first post, how the points are awarded. I think that is important in terms of whether there is more emphasis on the final four, winner etc.

My name is Joey :p

I believe all 64.

Stanford has the belief more, they have won this before, they are LOADED! Mallory and Stacey have showed how dominant they can be, more Mallory...and they have 1 loss. You?

To play devil's advocate:

*None of the girls on the current team have won the NCAA's in any capacity. Only Lele has belief

*While statistically Stanford has the best record, it has to be taken into account that they did not play ITA's. Thus the toughest teams they have faced this year are Cal and UCLA. Both good teams, but Stanford has managed to avoid all of the top 8 seeds in the NCAA tourney sans UCLA (seeded 7, UCLA def. Stanford 6-1, Stanford def. UCLA 5-2).

*Baylor is 28-2. Their last loss came back in February as did Stanford's (happened on the same day! creepy :scared:). Baylor has wins over #2 seed UNC, #5 seed Notre Dame, #6 seed Northwestern, and #7 seed UCLA. They have proven themselves against a variety of teams unlike Stanford

*Stanford has a solid lineup, no one would argue with that. However, to say they are "loaded"...well this is somewhat void against Baylor. Both teams have 4 players in the top 100. (B: #5[1], #20 [2], #69 [3], #97 [4]. S:#4 [1], #33 [3], #68 [4], #83 [2]). That's about as even as it gets.

*Mallory Burdette is 11-2 at #3 singles and 8-0 at #4 singles. She has had very dominant scorelines in Stanford's dual matches, however when she plays ranked girls, that dominance disappears: Losing to unranked Tuohimaa from TCU 5-7, 7-6 (4), 1-0 (5), losing to #43 Remnyse 7-6 (8), 6-4. Her only win over a ranked play was her 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 defeat of Cal's #31 ranked Andersson. (Aside: Mallory lost to No. 68 Micaela Hein of Arizona St. in the Pac-10 championships 6-3, 7-5). Tan is 4-5 at #3 and 11-1 at #4. Baylor's Ormond is 12-3 at #3 and 4-1 at #4. Borsanyi is 2-1 at #3 and 15-3 at #4. Considering the strength of their schedules, I would say the #3 and #4 slots on both teams are very solid.

LOL

Roland talked about how some girls were scoreboard watching at the end to see who claims the point. I loved how in the end Marrit won it for her last home match of her career. She seemed like she cried during her post match interview. Lauren said she wasn't scoreboard watching, but knew that she might be the one to claim the victory (in fact she had a couple match points, but "lost" those just in time to have Marrit win it). Love it.

Now if we can just get past UNC on Saturday, then I will officially become the only person on this forum to predict a second straight Duke final four. :) We would have won 5-2. That is very encouraging. Liz Plotkin is going to gain so much confidence from this. She should have beaten Katrina Tseng last time, but she injured her wrist and hasn't been the same since. If UNC's coach doesn't cheat again and put that Gina girl at number 6 (she should play 4), then I really think we have a good shot to win.
