As is probably well known, Wozniacki has announced a long-term (yet occasional) doubles partnership with Malou Ejdesgaard as preparation for the 2012 Olympics. Malou is not very well known Internationally, and since I've seen some curious questions about her already in this Forum, I thought we might as well give her her own thread. She has had some success in Denmark - beginning with a national title in doubles 2002. Malou's teammate was Caroline Wozniacki!

Malou's Danish Championship titles:
2002 - Doubles; girls under 12, indoor (with Wozniacki)
2002 - Doubles; girls under 12, outdoor (Wozniacki)
2003 - Doubles; girls under 12, indoor (Kathrine Lund Hansen)
2003 - Doubles; girls under 12, outdoor (Kathrine Lund Hansen)
2006 - Singles; girls under 16, indoor
2006 - Singles; girls under 16, outdoor
2006 - Mixed doubles; under 16, outdoor (Magnus Hallahan)
2007 - Doubles; ladies, indoor (Hanne Skak Jensen)
2007 - Doubles; girls under 16, outdoor (Victoria Rode Bager)
2008 - Singles; girls under 18, outdoor
2008 - Mixed doubles; under 18, outdoor (Oliver F. Andersen Katic)
2009 - Doubles; girls under 18, indoor (Victoria Rode Bager)
2009 - Doubles; girls under 18, outdoor (Victoria Rode Bager)

Malou also has a lot of silver medals (Runner up) at the Danish championships. Noteworthy is her RU title in the ladies' outdoor doubles 2006 - again teaming up with Wozniacki (Malou and Caro were 15 and 16 years of age at the time)! She also has some national Club Championship titles, for instance winning both indoor and outdoor titles with her club KB in 2009.

Here's a brief summary of her International carreer:

Malou's main focus in the period 2005-2009 was on the Junior Circuit where she played approximately 16 tournaments each year (Europe and Overseas). Even in 2009, when she was 18 years old, her main target was the Junior tournaments (she qualified for FO in doubles, and for Wimbledon in Singles and doubles, among others).

She has never had much success in singles, and she never won any tournaments as far as I know; in fact a SF may be her best result. But Malou has always been a decent double player, and she has had some success in doubles. In 2009, for instance (I'm still talking about Junior circuit), she won a tournament in Malaysia, and reached two other Finals (Columbia and Mexico), and three Semi Finals - with 6 different partners!

Alongside her Junior carreer she has increased her senior carreer gradually - entering 2 ITF tournaments in 2006, and continuing with 4 in 2007, 7 in 2008, and 11 in 2009. Her Singles performances were pretty poor, never winning more than 1 match AFAIK, but she has done reasonably well in doubles reaching 4 finals in 2009 with 4 different partners (10 K tournaments) and finally winning two tournaments in 2010!

Malou Ejdesgaard has not had much WTA experience: Just 3 tournaments in singles (Stockholm 2007, Beijing 2008, and Ponte Vedra Beach 2010); always lost in qualification. In doubles she has played two tournaments - in 2010 with Wozniacki (Ponte Vedra and Charleston). Unfortunately the Danish duo lost their first matches in both tournaments. But winning a set 6-0 vs. Peng/Vesnia is quite an achievement after all.

Fed Cup
Malou has played a few Fed Cup matches for Denmark. She won her doubles match vs. Hungary in 2010, and also was one set up in a singles match vs. Israel, 2010. Unfortunately, Malou had to retire at 0-1 in 2nd set due to illness.

Good luck with your carreer, Malou Ejdesgaard!

I found a gallery of recent photos from Ponte Vedra and Charleston on Flickr. I don't know how to post them here - or if it's allowed - but here is the link (lovely photos!):

There is also a photo with Caro and Malou in doubles:

It would be nice also if Stangtennis could paste his excellent post with Malou Ejdesgaard images from the "Doubles" forum in this thread?

Regarding the Olympics project!

From Caroline Wozniacki's blog (http://blog.tv2.dk/caroline.tv2/entry361899.html) at tv2.dk, March 5th, 2010 (excerpt):

Mission Olympics 2012

Hello everyone,

I have a goal towards the Olympics in 2012 in London, which I would like to share with you. My goal is to play the singles, and doubles with Malou Ejdesgaard. I get some Wild Cards for the various tournaments I participate in through my ranking. I will give these WC to Malou so we can play together in the tournaments where I do not play with Medina Garrigues. Medina is my partner this year and we will play together when we participate in the same tournaments. However, I will play more and more together with Malou, and our goal will be to qualify for the Olympics 2012 in London.

If Malou and I can get a good partnership, it will also increase our (Denmark's) chances to do well in Fed Cup, because a Fed Cup match consists of two singles and one doubles. It would be cool to get Denmark higher up in the ranks and be represented at the Olympics in both singles and doubles. I know it is a big project but I believe that this can be achieved. The more games we can play together the better understanding we will have for each other. In doubles it's very important to know each other's game and having mutual knowledge. Malou and I are also really good friends off court, and I think that this can help us on court.

Moreover, Malou done really well in doubles, both in Futures tournaments and in the recent Fed Cup. I think it's a really exciting project and John Tobias also wants to help Malou with Wild Cards.

I'll just keep posting small tidbits about Malou Ejdesgaard even if this info may be a couple of months old. Here's an article from April 5th 2010 in which coach Michael Mortensen speaks about Caro's and Malou's partnership in doubles.

Source: Ekstra bladet (http://ekstrabladet.dk/sport/anden_sport/tennis/article1309249.ece) (translated with Google, slightly excerpted and edited!)

Doubles-specialist: It is realistic

Coach Michael Mortensen - a doubles specialist in the 80's - would like to contribute to the new doubles partnership:

- I've said I want to be helpful. I already train both of them.

- It's really positive news with this new constellation, and yes, I think it is realistic to believe in the Olympics in London in 2012.

- Malou is a very good doubles player. She has proved that. And Caroline has already so much routine to share. It is a great gift to Malou to be able to familiarize herself with the pro environment and meeting the big names.

- Perhaps the tournament directors will eventually notice her [Malou] and give her a wildcard to singles tournaments.

Michael Mortensen is not in doubt that Malou Ejdesgaard must seize the opportunity:

- Malou's strength is in the doubles. It is as if she plays more relaxed when she has a buddy to lean on. And she has the tools to do it well with Caroline at her side.

As the article also says, Michael Mortensen is club coach for Malou Ejdesgaard in her tennisclub KB, and he's also a trainer for Wozniacki (and sometimes hits balls with Caro on the tour, I think). Mortensen was a succesful doubles player in the 80's and won 5 ATP titles in 12 finals - mainly with the Swede Jan Gunnarsson - but he also won a title with Mats Wilander. His highest rank in doubles was world number 34. Mortensen is also a tennis commentator for Eurosport in Denmark.

It looks like Malou's next tournament is a 10K ITF Futures in Durban, South Africa, 17 May/23 May. She's in the main draw entry list.

There are in fact two back-to-back tournaments in Durban; the next one played 24 May/30 May. Since South Africa is a long way to travel, I suppose she'll play both tournaments if possible (the entry list for the latter tournament is not published yet).

"It's only Caroline"

Malou Ejdesgaard, 19, is Caroline Wozniacki's new doubles partner. The goal is the Olympics 2012.

"In a way one might call it an adventure. I see it as a great experience."

Thus says the 19-year-old Danish tennis player Malou Ejdesgaard, who will be doubles partner with her rather more famous fellow citizen Caroline Wozniacki during the next few years.

It sounds like a big task for the player from Trørød Tennis Club - currently just number 1019 in the world - but she is keen to seize the challenge, although it is quite a step up the ladder to suddenly play major tournaments alongside one of the world's very best.

Much attention
"It's completely different being at these tournaments. There is much more attention compared to the small tournaments and it is much bigger than what I am used to. So maybe it is a bit of an adventure", she admits.

The Adventure began with Caroline Wozniackis ambitions to enter the doubles tournament at the Olympics in London in 2012. This requires of course a Danish partner, and there are not many to choose from.

Caroline chose Malou
"Caroline asked at one point whether it was something I wanted, and of course I said yes, because it will surely be a fantastic experience if we get to the Olympics in 2012. We talked back and forth about it, and finally agreed that we thought it was a good idea", says Malou Ejdesgaard.

It may seem like an unbalanced partnership: There are 1,016 ranking positions and almost a world of difference between Malou Ejdesgaard and her doubles partner, but that's not how Malou Ejdesgaard sees it.

Friends since childhood
"Obviously it is impressive that she is number two in the world, but our opponents will probably think more about it than I will, because I've known Caroline since we were 9 or 10 years, and I only think of her as my friend who stands beside me", she says before she breathes and admits that she is not completely untouched.

"She IS indeed number two in the world but I choose not to think too much about that, because then I would get nervous. I just think that this is Caroline, and she is my best female friend and my doubles partner, and I will just play as I usually do when I'm playing doubles. And she's really sweet to play with, and it helps a lot", says the 19-year-old tennis player laughing.

Malou Ejdesgaard also hopes that the doubles partnership with Wozniacki can launch her own carreer and give her some momentum.

Failed in first attempt
"My ambition is to get in the top 100 in both singles and doubles, and then we'll see what happens. But I've just begun playing senior tournaments, so it's all about getting points to the rankings," she says.

Initially, however, the main focus is on doubles with Caroline Wozniacki. First task for the two girls had a dissapointing outcome last night as they were defeated 1-6, 2-6 by an unknown Belarus/Canadian team.

"It's a bit difficult to go in and play a doubles when you have not played together for a long time. We must get to know each other again and I think we will play better in the next tournament", said Malou Ejdesgaard on the defeat in the first round in Ponte Vedra Beach.

Malou Ejdesgaard
This is Caroline Wozniacki's new doubles partner.

Malou Ejdesgaard is 19 years old.

Began playing tennis at seven.

Plays tennis all over the world approximately 25 weeks a year.

Do not know how many countries she has been in - "but it's a lot!"

Tries to see some of the countries she's in - unless it is Scandinavia, because "you kinda knows what it is like."

Number 1019 in the WTA singles rankings.

Number 432 in doubles rankings.

Studies HF at Frederiksberg, but have not considered which civil carreer it will lead to.

Enjoys having fun with her friends and family - and talking about everything but tennis.

I just noticed this thread :) Thanks for doing it angliru...

May 13th, 2010, 08:14 AM
It's a pleasure...

I've updated my 2nd post in the thread with a list of Malou's Danish Championship titles:

2002 - Doubles; girls under 12, indoor (with Wozniacki)
2002 - Doubles; girls under 12, outdoor (Wozniacki)
2003 - Doubles; girls under 12, indoor (Kathrine Lund Hansen)
2003 - Doubles; girls under 12, outdoor (Kathrine Lund Hansen)
2006 - Singles; girls under 16, indoor
2006 - Singles; girls under 16, outdoor
2006 - Mixed doubles; under 16, outdoor (Magnus Hallahan)
2007 - Doubles; ladies, indoor (Hanne Skak Jensen)
2007 - Doubles; girls under 16, outdoor (Victoria Rode Bager)
2008 - Singles; girls under 18, outdoor
2008 - Mixed doubles; under 18, outdoor (Oliver F. Andersen Katic)
2009 - Doubles; girls under 18, indoor (Victoria Rode Bager)
2009 - Doubles; girls under 18, outdoor (Victoria Rode Bager)

Malou also has a lot of silver medals (Runner up) at Danish national championships.

Btw., below is a clip with Michael Mortensen talking about when KB won the Danish Outdoor Club Championship 2009. The subject is perhaps a bit off-topic for this thread, as Malou is not mentioned at all (in fact she didn't even play for her club in the final, but she played in the SF and earlier in the tournament, and therefore deservedly got her medal, as can bee seen in the clip). Malou is the one being "kissed" c. 1:40-1:45:

May 14th, 2010, 05:15 PM
It seems confirmed that Malou also plays the 2nd tournament in Durban, South Africa, since she is now on the main draw singles entry list. I suspect that Malou will play doubles too at both events.

Upcoming schedule:
17 May / 23 May - 10K "ITF DURBAN INTERNATIONAL OPEN", Durban, South Africa
24 May / 30 May - 10K "ITF SATA INTERNATIONAL OPEN", Durban, South Africa

May 17th, 2010, 03:48 PM
Malou plays doubles with Chanel Simmonds (RSA) - a very talented 17 yo girl, #413 in the pro rankings and seeded 2 in singles in Durban!

They won their 1st doubles match against a team from South Africa 6-1 6-4 :yeah:

Good luck in the next round and in singles! :)

Well done Malou! :)

But she said last year at US Open (or was it 2 years ago) "I have played for full in 2 years" she should be better in the rankings if she was the next big player from DK...

May 18th, 2010, 10:13 PM
I didn't know she had been injured but it's good to hear from her, and I'm glad she won her singles match today! :)

But she said last year at US Open (or was it 2 years ago) "I have played for full in 2 years" she should be better in the rankings if she was the next big player from DK...

Well, it must be pretty obvious that Malou isn't the next Caro (even if tv2 said so once!). Her singles results on the pro circuit are not very impressive: 9-29 carreer win/loss ratio (or 10-30 after today's match), and I don't think she has made it past the second round ever? But if she wants to play tennis, and believes she can get into top 100, then it's definetely possible. She has put a lot of pressure on herself by teaming up with Caro, and that can either misfire or be exactly the motivation she needs! I hope the latter! Malou certainly deserves the success!

Besides, she has always been very good in doubles and it will be quite interesting to see her and Caro play together. That's definetely something I'm looking forward to!

May 19th, 2010, 09:07 AM
Malou has an impossible schedule (http://satablog.files.wordpress.com/2009/12/order-of-play-19th-may-2010.pdf) today!

Court 3 - Starting at 10:00
[4] Sanaa BHAMBRI (IND) vs. Malou EJDESGAARD (DEN)

Court 13 - Not Before 14:30

Yesterday she had a 3-hour match in the afternoon, and today she'll start the morning vs. the 2nd seed in singles, and then a few hours later the 4th seed in doubles! Good luck!

May 19th, 2010, 06:28 PM
Malou Ejdesgaard har spillet sig frem til kvartfinalen i $10.000-turneringen i Durban i Sydafrika efter sejr over Sanaa Bhambri fra Indien. Malou skriver:

Jeg vandt min 2. runde i dag over seedet 4 med 7-5 6-3 :)

They don't mention dubs...

May 19th, 2010, 06:40 PM

Its :o on tennissporten.dk, they mention Malou's win, but not Caro's win today ;)

May 19th, 2010, 07:06 PM
Nice that she won her singles match!

Unfortunately Malou lost her doubles QF 6-4 6-0.

Malou is now in (her first ever?) ITF Semi final!
Well done! :yeah:

May 20th, 2010, 03:47 PM
Well done Malou!

I thought she had lost when she not fast send home her info...

I once was in contact with a WTA/ITF players uncle, she fast send him the results if she won, but was slow if she lost, it was before there was Live scores from small WTA tournaments...

May 20th, 2010, 03:50 PM
Btw, I forgot and the Forum was slow, Malou's double partner this week don't have a good doubles record, she's better in Singles.

May 20th, 2010, 04:26 PM
Awesome :) How will that effect her ranking?

May 20th, 2010, 05:24 PM
It will definately be a new carreer high for Malou - probably in the top 900. I'm not 100% sure, but I believe Malou has 8 WTA points or so before Durban. A SF in a 10K tournament will give her 6 points (a final 8 points, and a tournament win 12 points). If she loses the SF, she'll probably have 14 WTA points, which should be just enough to lift her into top 900.

At the moment a player needs a total of 20 points to get into top 800; 28 points to get into top 700; 40 points to get into top 600; 60 points to get into top 500 (very approximate figures!). But she's got a good start in Durban!

May 20th, 2010, 05:47 PM
There's a picture of Malou in Durban posted at The South African Tennis Association Blog Day 4 report (http://satablog.com/2010/05/20/durban-itf-day-4/):

http://img99.imageshack.us/img99/9841/maloudurban2010.th.jpg (http://img99.imageshack.us/i/maloudurban2010.jpg/)

From the blog - about Malou's match:
Malou Ejdesgaard from Denmark who upset the 4th seed Sanaa Bhambri IND (4) yesterday, nearly had her success cut short by South African Natasha Fourouclas who won the first set 6-3 and was close to winning in two before Malou fought back to 5-5 before taking the second set 7-5. Fourouclas ran out of steam and Ejdesgaard went on to win the 3rd set 6-0 to secure her semi berth against the top seed tomorrow.

May 20th, 2010, 07:17 PM
From tennissporten.dk (http://www.tennissporten.dk/pages/posts/malou-ejdesgaard-i-semifinalen-2951.php):

Malou Ejdesgaard still plays well in South Africa and she is now in the semifinals after a victory over Natasha Fourouclas from South Africa 3-6 7-5 6-0. Malou writes:

I played a tough match today in 35 degrees heat [95°F] and sunshine. I lost the first set 3-6 after many long rallies. I was down 4-5 and 00-30 in the second set, but after that I played really well and won the set 7-5 and then the third set 6-0. I fought my way through and final set was especially good. There I was on top and felt comfortable. My struggle lasted three hours again like the previous two matches, and I'm a little sore in my shoulder now that I know have been injured. But fortunately, my father is with me, and he is massaging me after every match. I will play semi finals tomorrow against the 1st seed from India (Venkatesha, WTA-395).

May 20th, 2010, 07:38 PM
:) its tough down in the lower ranks... I hope she stays fit and gets the win in the semi.

(1)Poojashree Venkatesha (IND) d. Malou Ejdesgaard (DEN) 6-4 2-6 7-6(3)

From tennissporten.dk (http://www.tennissporten.dk/pages/posts/malou-ejdesgaard-tabte-semifinalen-2955.php):

Malou's opponent in the semifinal - the 1st seeded Venkatesha from India - was too tough for Malou. Malou writes:

Unfortunately I lost today to the 1st seeded 4-6 6-2 6-7 (4). It was a really tough and long match again today. Three hours once again. I was down 1-5 in the third set and she had two match points, but I fought back to 5-5. Unfortunately I was unable to win the game to 6-5, and I was sort of drained of energy in the tie-break. But she played very well, and I am happy with my performance this week. Tomorrow is rest day, and I'll be ready for next week where I will play another $ 10,000 here in Durban.

It's sad Malou lost but she has played really well this week. She was up against the no. 1 seed - a player ranked 600 positions above Malou! In this kind of form Malou should really be able to win a 10K tournament! But I still consider doubles her real terrain! Well done, and good luck luck next week! :yeah:

Re. her looks: :hearts:

Shame, looks like it was a close match... Onwards and upwards.

May 22nd, 2010, 05:29 AM
Tough loss, but great effort to come back from 1-5 in the final set.

May 22nd, 2010, 11:29 AM
She doesn't sound too disappointed. A lot of positives to take from this :D I hope she can rise a bit in the rankings.

May 22nd, 2010, 11:43 AM
Yes, a very positive week.

Here are some (old) pictures while we wait for Malou's next tournament monday. First Caro & Malou:

The next pictures are from Nordea Danish Open 2008 when Malou and Caro played doubles vs. Stefanie Voegele (SUI) & Alexandra Panova (RUS):

Malou to the left (blurred):

Nordea Danish Open was a $100,000 ITF tournament in 2008 but has been "upgraded" to a $220,000 WTA event this season. The tournament will be played August 2010. Malou will most probably get a wild card for doubles - and play with Caro once again. She may also get a wild card for singles (as she did in 2008) but we'll have to wait and see about that...

May 24th, 2010, 07:59 AM
Another 10K in Durban this week! Malou's part of the draw in singles:

VENKATESHA, Poojashree (IND) [1] v. EDWARDS, Tegan (RSA)
[Q] GRESSMANN, Kerstin (RSA) v. [WC] LUUS, Welma (RSA)
[Q] SWANEPOEL, Bianca (RSA) v. BHAMBRI, Sanaa (IND) [5]

If Malou wins her 1st match, she'll pobably meet Venkatesha i round 2. Venkatesha was RU last week, and Malou just barely lost to her in SF after a very good and tight match (3 sets; tie break in 3rd!).

Malou will once again play with Chanel Simmonds (RSA) in the doubles. The team is seeded 3 this week.

Malou is not on today's OOP (http://satablog.files.wordpress.com/2009/12/order-of-play-24th-may-2010.pdf), so she'll probably have to play singles AND doubles tomorrow.

May 24th, 2010, 07:58 PM
They should give her a Quali wildcard for Danish Open, even we don't have other danes others then maybe Mai Grage, to give a MD wildcard as it don't seem like Karen Barbat's team can get along with the danish FEDs or others...Even I hope Karen can play!

Good Luck Malou in RSA this week! :)

The 1st seed was too tough in singles. But Malou won in doubles and is in the semi final:

Good luck in doubles SF!

Malou lost her doubles SF

Here are some pictures from the medal awards in senior ladies doubles at the Danish championships 2008. Malou and Karen Barbat were runners up, but they actually never played the final. Malou had the misfortune of being stung in her hand by a wasp just before the final and was unable to play! Karina Ildor Jacobsgaard and Hanne Skak Jensen were therefore champions 2008 by walk over.

From left: Malou Ejdesgaard, Karen Barbat, Karina Ildor Jacobsgaard, Hanne Skak Jensen.

The above pictures are from this site, btw.:

It's a site about Danish outdoor Championships 2007, 2008, and 2009. There are many on court images of Malou on that site but the images are hard to find as they are not tagged, and you have to browse through all images and eventually recognize Malou in each one of them. The years 2007 and 2009 are presented in some crappy Flash mode, but the 2008 images are rather good (jpg).

Go to Menu tab 'Billeder' and select a date. "Onsdag 13-08-2008", for instance, has a lot of Malou images on page 2, 3, & 5. I don't think she was present at the 2009 Championships, but I haven't actually looked because of the crappy Flash format.

Her are few samples:

Malou and coach Michael Mortensen:

No photographer is credited on the site, but I'd like to credit him or her anyway for these excellent pictures!

Jun 1st, 2010, 06:22 AM
Malou's ranking points from South Africa (if anyone wonders) will probably be added on the official rankings published after French Open, monday 07 June 2010.

Malou's next tournament is 14 Jun to 20 Jun 2010 (one of these):

$10,000 Montemor-O-Novo, Portugal, hard (priority 1), or
$10,000 Lenzerheide, Switzerland, clay (priority 2), or
$10,000 Alkmaar, Netherlands, clay (priority 3), or
$10,000 Koeln, Germany, clay (priority 4)

These European tournaments are popular, and with Malou's present ranking she may have to play qualification. I guess she will play yet another tournament in the same country (whatever country it will be - probably Portugal) the following week (21 Jun to 28 Jun 2010).

Jun 1st, 2010, 07:57 PM
Malou's next tournament (revised):

14 Jun to 20 Jun 2010 - $10,000 Lenzerheide, Switzerland, clay

Possibly also (?):
21 Jun to 28 Jun 2010 - $10,000 Davos, Switzerland, clay

Jun 1st, 2010, 08:00 PM
Any of these smaller events ever on video?

Jun 1st, 2010, 08:29 PM
I'm afraid no. I've never seen any.

Jun 4th, 2010, 07:28 AM
I might as well post a recent result: Malou played a club match for her club KB vs. Lyngby this past weekend (Sunday 30 May). She won both her matches (singles and doubles). As a matter of fact, KB won all 9 matches on the day!

Malou Ejdesgaard vs. Natasha Nielsen 6-0 6-0
Malou Ejdesgaard/Hanne Skak Jensen vs. Louise Randrup Noe/Natasha Nielsen 6-4 6-1

Well done! Next Club match for KB will be 12 June, but I'm not sure whether Malou will participate since she has a tournament i Switzerland June 14th.

Jun 7th, 2010, 10:49 AM
Malou is now ranked 825 in singles on WTA - by far her highest ranking ever! She has jumped 149 positions since the previous ranking published May 24, 2010!

Well done!

Jun 8th, 2010, 05:50 PM
After the clay tournament in Switzerland (14 Jun to 20 Jun), Malou will play in Norway. The revised schedule for the next couple of weeks looks like this:

14 Jun to 20 Jun 2010 - $10,000 Lenzerheide, Switzerland, clay
21 Jun to 27 Jun 2010 - $10,000 Gausdal, Norway, hard

Jun 8th, 2010, 06:27 PM
Good Luck to Malou, the $10.000 events in Norway are usually not very strong in terms of the entry list. So Malou has a chance to do some real damage there :)

Jun 12th, 2010, 08:01 AM
That would be nice :yeah:

Here are some images from Fed Cup in Portugal, February 2010 (images from Dansk Tennis Forbund):

06 February 2010, Denmark vs. Israel:
Malou Ejdesgaard - Julia Glushko 6-4, 0-1 (Malou ret.). Unfortunately Malou had to retire from her match because of illness. The doctor is examining her.

Jun 13th, 2010, 09:38 AM
Malou played singles and doubles for her club KB yesterday in a 8-1 win vs. Helsingør. Malou won both her matches:

Malou Ejdesgaard vs. Eveliina Virtanen 7-6(7) 6-4
Malou Ejdesgaard/Hanne Skak Jensen vs. Maria Jespersen/Eveliina Virtanen 6-2 6-1

Malou is in the main draw in 10K Lenzerheide, Switzerland next week. Good luck!

Jun 14th, 2010, 03:52 PM
Nicole Rottmann (AUT) will be Malou's doubles partner in Switzerland. They should make a good team! Rottmann actually won the doubles tournament in Durban a couple of weeks ago (defeating Malou, among others, on the way to the title)!

Only 10 teams are in the draw, so Malou/Rottman have a bye to QF!

Lenzerheide, doubles, QF (scheduled to be played Thursday):
(3) Ejdesgaard (DEN)/Rottmann (AUT) vs. Ahmetspahic (SUI)/Fatic (BIH)

Jun 15th, 2010, 06:33 AM
Malou's section of the singles draw at Lenzerheide, round 1:

Olga BROZDA (POL) (6) Vs Naomi BLEISCH (SUI)
Neira FATIC (BIH) Vs Nicole CLERICO (ITA) (2)

Malou plays today (Tuesday) - not before 12.30.

Jun 15th, 2010, 07:36 AM
She should be able to defeat Susak, I dunno about Brozda but Bleisch is quite a joke :spit:

Jun 15th, 2010, 07:09 PM
Antonela Susak (CRO) vs. Malou Ejdesgaard (DEN) 7-6(4) 7-6(5)

Too bad Malou lost in two close tie-breaks! Now take the doubles title with Nicole :yeah:

Jun 15th, 2010, 07:18 PM
Antonela Susak (CRO) vs. Malou Ejdesgaard (DEN) 7-6(4) 7-6(5)

:( onward... :)

Jun 17th, 2010, 07:00 AM
Malou is actually in the doubles SF without having played one match yet (walk over in QF)! The semi final will be played this afternoon (Thursday):

(3) Ejdesgaard (DEN)/Rottman (AUT) vs. (2) Brozda/Zagorska (POL)

Jun 17th, 2010, 03:58 PM
(2) Brozda/Zagorska (POL) def. (3) Ejdesgaard (DEN)/Rottman (AUT) 6-4 6-2

It wasn't a very good week in Switzerland for Malou. Better luck next week in Norway :yeah:

Jun 20th, 2010, 06:29 AM
Malou was back in Denmark to play for her club KB vs. Århus 1900 yesterday (Saturday 19 June). She won both her matches (singles and doubles), as KB defeated Århus 1900 6-3 in matches. Malou was awarded most valuable player (mvp) for KB. Yesterday's results:

Malou Ejdesgaard def. Carolina Magnusson 6-2 6-2
Malou Ejdesgaard/Hanne Skak Jensen def. Mona Barthen/Carolina Magnusson 7-5 6-4

Good luck in Norway :yeah:

Jun 21st, 2010, 06:08 AM
Noooooo! Gausdal R1:

Malou Ejdesgaard (DEN) vs. Karen Barbat (DEN)

How likely is that? Bad luck for the two danes but at least one of them goes to the 2nd round! They've played a lot against eachother in Denmark, and Karen seems to have the edge.

Malou plays doubles with the superb Linhova (CZE). They are seeded No. 1! Good luck!

Jun 21st, 2010, 07:08 AM
 vs. Karen

GL in doubles (#1 seed :inlove:)

Jun 22nd, 2010, 05:11 AM
Doubles, 1st round:

(1)Ejdesgaard (DEN)/Linhova (CZE) def. Mair (ITA)/Te Tai (NZL) 7-5 6-1

I guess Malou and Karen will play 1st round singles today (Tuesday). Good luck to both players (one has to lose, I'm afraid)!

Jun 23rd, 2010, 04:59 AM
(6)Karen Barbat (DEN) d. Malou Ejdesgaard (DEN) 67(6) 63 60

Too bad, Malou, but well done Karen and good luck in 2nd round :yeah:

Malou :)

Jun 28th, 2010, 04:37 AM
Malou Ejdesgaard seems to have some weeks off now.

Next scheduled tournament is either:
12 Jul/18 Jul - $25,000 WOKING, GBR ...or
12 Jul/18 Jul - $10,000 CACERES, ESP

I'm sure she'll have to play qualification at Woking; her ranking is not good enough to enter main draw (there are some good players in the draw including Sania Mirza and Katie O'Brien!).

Jun 28th, 2010, 06:28 AM
Malou is really turning into a doubles specialist :hearts:

Jun 30th, 2010, 10:24 AM
Yes, she certainly is :)

Malou is now in the qualifying entry list for 25K Woking, GBR. I think it's great that she is in a 25 K tournament allthough she'll have to play qualification! It's a good tournament with some top players in the draw, for instance Sania Mirza (career high #27 in singles and #18 in doubles). Let's hope for a good doubles partner for Malou :yeah:

Jul 7th, 2010, 08:25 AM
I've just found some images from a Junior tournament in Mexico, The '31st International Casablanca Junior Cup' 28 December 2008 - 04 January 2009.

The first one is from singles (Malou lost in 1st round):

Malou had better succes in doubles with Ana Bogdan as partner (they lost the final to the excellent girls Heather Watson/Ajla Tomljanovic):

The awards (from left is Ajla Tomljanovic, Heather Watson, Ana Bogdan, Malou Ejdesgaard):

Malou's qualification draw at 25K Woking, GB. She must win two matches to enter Main draw:

(5)Malou Ejdesgaard (DEN) v Alexandra Walker (GBR)
Natasha Starling (GBR) v Amanda Black (GBR)

The qualification matches will be played Sunday 11th of July and possibly Monday. Good luck :yeah:

Jul 12th, 2010, 03:53 AM
25K Woking, GB - 1R Q:
(5) Malou Ejdesgaard (DEN) def. Alexandra Walker (GBR) 6-3 6-1

And the best news:
MALOU got a main draw Wild card for Copenhagen $220,000 in August!!! :bounce:

Jul 12th, 2010, 01:47 PM
Malou was not very lucky with her doubles draw at Woking:

(1)Mirza (IND)/Robson (GBR) Vs. Abramovic (CRO)/Ejdesgaard (DEN)

Mirza played doubles with Wozniacki at Wimbledon and was quite good. Mirza's career high ranking in doubles is #18! And Mirza's partner youngster Laura Robson is not bad either (a Junior Wimbledon champ two years ago aged 14!). But I'm sure it will be fun to play against such popular players in front of a British crowd! Good luck, Malou!

Jul 12th, 2010, 03:31 PM
MD: She lost 1-6 in first set Quali, but won the next 2 also 6-1. :)

Anna Smith (GBR) v (wc)Anna Fitzpatrick (GBR)
(6)Irena Pavlovic (FRA) v (Q)Malou Ejdesgaard (DEN)

Good Luck in MD, it will be hard to win!

Jul 12th, 2010, 03:40 PM
Btw, What is Mirza doing in 25K dubs? :o

Jul 12th, 2010, 04:13 PM
#813 (828) Ejdesgaard, Malou DEN 14 9

With 3 (atleast) more points she should be at about 780 after Danish Open.

Jul 12th, 2010, 05:22 PM
Congrats with the two Quali-wins. Well done, Malou, and good luck in the main draw! And have fun in the doubles! :yeah:

It is now oficially confirmed, that Malou will play doubles with Wozniacki at Danish Open (just as we had expected):
- I hope we can play a few matches together. We've decided to try to play at the Olympics so it will be good practice for us, Malou told tv2.dk (http://sporten.tv2.dk/article.php/id-32120673:én-sejr-nok-for-wozniackidouble.html).

Woking, R1:
Irena Pavlovic (FRA) def. Malou Ejdesgaard 6-3 6-7(5) 6-4

Good effort from Malou against a good opponent in good form (Pavlovic is ranked #217 on WTA this week - a career high!).

Malou plays R1 doubles this afternoon. Good luck!

Jul 15th, 2010, 06:18 AM
Woking, R1, doubles:
(1)Mirza (IND)/Robson (GBR) def. Abramovic (CRO)/Ejdesgaard (DEN) 7-6(2) 7-5

Another good effort - against the 1st seeded team. Better luck next time!

Jul 16th, 2010, 05:34 PM
Malou is in the qualification draw in $220,000 Slovenia Open (Portoroz). The tournament managers of Danish Open managed to get 3 Q-Wildcards for three Danish players by giving Srebotnik a MD wildcard for Copenhagen.

Malou's part of the draw:
(2)Sesil Karatantcheva v Yuliana Fedak
Nicole Clerico v Aniko Kapros
Indire Akiki v (wc)Malou Ejdesgaard
(wc)Karen Barbat v (7)Anna Tatishvili

Indire Akiki (CRO) is 19 years of age - ranked 641 on WTA. Her win/loss record for 2010 is 12-12. Ejdesgaard is ranked #813, and her W/L for 2010 is 6-8. Good luck, Malou!

Jul 17th, 2010, 05:27 PM
Indire Akiki def. (wc)Malou Ejdesgaard 6-2 6-4

Malou had by far the easiest draw of the three Danish girls - at least on paper - and this match looked winnable. The loss is probably a bit dissapointing, but at least the score suggest a reasonable good performance by Malou. GL in Copenhagen :yeah:

Jul 18th, 2010, 09:24 AM
Malou's match stats from yesterday's match:

Jul 19th, 2010, 04:42 AM
There was an article about Malou Ejdesgaard in a sort of paper ad a year ago. It's a bit difficult to discribe what sort of paper this is, but it's a sort of paper that the Danish Postal service uses to wrap around other paper commercials (if that makes any sense?).

It's from March 2009 - in Danish - and is about Malou's career, ambitions, family etc. It can be seen or downloaded here (pdf file format):

These images are from the pdf file (they can be found in higher resolution within the pdf):

Malou videre, Mai ude.

Good Luck Malou! :)

Jul 30th, 2010, 07:34 AM
An article about Malou's recent success in England (from tv2.dk (http://sporten.tv2.dk/tennis/article.php/id-32535454:ejdesgaard-jeg-er-overrasket.html)):

Ejdesgaard: I am surprised

Malou Ejdesgaard got another three set win at the ITF tournament in England. Thus, the Dane is in the quarterfinals, which she didn't expect.

- I must admit I am a little surprised that I am in the quarterfinals. I've played against some good players, and I was never really sure that I could beat them, but I did, a happy Malou Ejdesgaard told tv2.dk.

Today Ejdesgaard defeated Yasmin Clarke in the second round 6-0 4-6 6-3.

Hard work
Both wins were three set wins, a fact which according to Malou Ejdesgaard is hardly a coincidence.

- I've worked hard on my legwork and my serves at the academy I train at in England [Gosling] and in Copenhagen. And all that hard work pays off now, says Ejdesgaard.

Ejdesgaard's opponent in the quarterfinals Friday is Tara Moore from England who in her 2nd round match defeated another Dane, Mai Grage.

Perfect timing
In less than a week Malou Ejdesgaard will play for her first time ever in the main draw of a WTA tournament. Therefore it's the perfect moment to hit the right form.

- I feel in really good shape, I have sent a signal that I can easily compete at this level. In Farum the level will be higher, but I come with belief in myself, "says Ejdesgaard to tv2.dk.

Malou Ejdesgaard has a Wildcard to the main tournament. Two other talents, Mai Grage and Karen Barbat, have Wildcards for qualification.

Malou Ejdesgaard and Tara Moore both have connections to Gosling, and are very good friends. I'm sure it'll be a fun match for them. Good luck!

Jul 30th, 2010, 03:46 PM
Malou tabte 36 67 (3) mod Tara Moore, England, WTA 602 og seedet nummer 8.

But a bit better score than Mai, and Malou lead 5-1 in second set...wasted 4 set balls...

Jul 31st, 2010, 06:58 AM
Too bad

A good tournament though! And if Malou kept winning it could be very stressfull schedule-wise as she has a doubles match with Wozniacki in Copenhagen monday, while Chiswick's final is played Sunday.

Aug 1st, 2010, 06:50 AM
Malou Ejdesgaard in Tivoli yesterday:

Video clip (http://www.dr.dk/NETTV/Update/forside.htm?video={698B8EB7-3D94-41CD-894E-F627AB692600}) - very brief (1 min.), mainly Wozniacki, negligible regarding Ejdesgaard).

Aug 2nd, 2010, 06:56 AM
Malou's draws:

Copenhagen, 1R, singles:
Ejdesgaard vs. Tatjana Malek (GER)

Malek has not had a great 2010, and is ranked #125, but she is is better than her ranking suggests and has beaten many top 100 players this year (including Rezai, ranked 20!). The match will probably be played Tuesday (not on today's OOP).

Copenhagen, 1R, doubles (lower half):

Foretz/Sfar vs. Malek/Barrois
Daniilidou/Woehr vs. (4)Diatchenko/Poutchek
Ejdesgaard/Wozniacki vs. Meusburger/Voegele
Keothavong/Smith vs. (2)Black/Erakovic

A really tough draw for Malou/Caroline! 1st round opponents Meusburger/Voegele are not a regular team, and are not doubles specialists, but they are really good tennis players! Yvonne Meusburger also has a lot of experience, of course. I still believe Malou/Caroline could win this match, but a win can't be taken for granted. And I'm not convinced that Caroline is going to putt too much effort into this. It's probably all about singles for her. But to Malou this match can be really important. A 1st round win would lift Malou more than 100 positions in the doubles rankings (present no. 426)!

There should be good support from the audience, as the ticket prices are lowered to 50 DKk. tonight when the doubles match will be played (link (http://www.e-bokssonyericssonopen.dk/nyheder/nyheder/2010/8/1/ol-double-for-en-50%27er-mandag-aften.aspx))!

If Caro/Malou wins their 1st match it will be really difficult, since the 2nd round opponents are (2)Black/Erakovic! Erakovic is in good doubles form, as she was in the final at Slovenia Open a week ago. And Cara Black is one of the best doubles specialists around (defeated Wozniacki/Mirza at Wimbledon partnering Hantuchova).

The 1st-round match will be played tonight - not before 20:00. I don't think the match will be shown on tv, but I assume tv2 will show some highlights in their tennis program late tonight (22:35).

Aug 2nd, 2010, 02:26 PM
Be good to see how Malou get's on in both doubles and singles, and should they win the first round they won't be playing Black/Erakovic as they went out this afternoon!

Does anyone know Malou's next tournament after the Danish Open?

Malou trains at Gosling High Performance Centre near London when not playing or in Denmark.

So does Timea Babos I can see: http://www.goslingsports.co.uk/tennis.html
How else trains there?

Do you train there too?

Aug 3rd, 2010, 11:10 AM
I'm sure there are many Gosling players but I've mentioned Malou's and Tara Moore's Gosling connections in this (http://www.tennisforum.com/showthread.php?p=18232446#post18232446) post, and also in this very thread, I believe. Thank you, dos Santos! It was of course not a very good performance by Malou. She missed almost all shots by a meter or two! She was also footfaulted a couple of times, and nothing seemed to work for her. I believe she was very nervous, almost overwhelmed. But we must remember that this was Malou's first ever WTA main draw singles match. Not an easy task. Good luck tonight, Malou!

Copenhagen, 1R:
Tatjana Malek def. Malou Ejdesgaard 6-0 6-1

Match stats:

Malou was diasappointed in the post match interview and said she didn't play up to her best level. Malou also said that she would keep playing smaller tournaments which were at her level (10 & 25K I suppose) and hopefully be good enough to play at WTA level some day. But first of all she would focus on Wednesday's doubles match with Wozniacki, and Malou hoped she could play a little better. Malou also thanked the audience for the support!

TV2.dk (http://sporten.tv2.dk/tennis/article.php/id-32638642:ejdesgaard-skuffet-over-fad%C3%A6sen.html) also talked to Malou Ejdesgaard after the match:

- My game didn't work at all. I've almost never played against such a player. I had problems returning her slices, and the match shows there's still a long way for me.

- Now I need to talk to my coach about the match and then focus fully on the doubles match tomorrow, a very disappointed Ejdesgaard told tv2.dk.

A very short video-interview with Ejdesgaard some hours after the loss yesterday (in Danish):

Aug 5th, 2010, 01:06 PM
Copenhagen, 2R doubles:

Keothavong/Smith def. Wozniacki/Ejdesgaard 7-5 6-3

Ejdesgaard did quite well today. She was obviously in the hot spot: Whenever Keothavong/Smith were in trouble they would just try to hit Ejdesgaard (which is understandable given the choice of hitting #3 in the world or #800!). But Malou managed well and hit 9 winners in the match (including one from the baseline). Apart from the winners she also forced some errors from the opponents. She did a lot of errors too but it was not a complete disaster. Far from. It was a great performance considering the circumstances and the quality of the opponents!

Winners (including Aces) - unofficial stats:
Keothavong 14
Smith 11
Ejdesgaard 9
Wozniacki 4

Errors (Forced and Unforced, including DF's) - unofficial stats:
Ejdesgaard 26
Smith 24
Keothavong 14
Wozniacki 13

Aug 6th, 2010, 03:06 AM
I've never heard of this girl before. Why would Wozniacki choose her as a doubles partner if she is ranked #1000 in the world singles?

Aug 6th, 2010, 07:34 AM
The short answer: Because she's the best doubles player in Denmark!

Caroline wants to play at the Olympic Games in London 2012, and if possible also in the doubles's. The problem is that the Olympic doubles teams must be National. And there's no better Danish doubles players around at the moment. But Caroline and Malou are not going to play doubles on the WTA-tour on a regular basis (Ejdesgaard's ranking is not good enough for that), so it's just on occasions when they can get wild cards (like here in Copenhagen, or at Ponte Vedre Beach earlier this year).

Caroline has also stressed that she and Malou are really good friends and are having a great time together. They have known each other for ten years or so, and were Danish Champions in U12 doubles back in 2002!

EDIT: Another thing which I forgot to mention, is the Federation Cup. When Wozniacki plays for Denmark she'll obviously have a good chance of winning her singles match, but Denmark will still struggle to win the combined match because the Danish 2nd single and the double is of less quality. If Caroline and Malou can get it together in doubles, Denmark will have much better chances in Federation Cup.

Nice. I guess that sort of explains why this thread is suddenly so popular. The thread has had 1000 views or more per day since Malou apperead in primetime tv a couple of days ago! I guess it also explains why her facebook is now private (was public until a couple of days ago).

There are also some rare Caroline-pictures but they seem almost too private...

Malou highlights from the 2nd round doubles match vs. Keothavong/Smith (88 Mb):

Aug 8th, 2010, 05:59 AM
Two new articles about Malou Ejdesgaard (in Danish):

The articles are mainly about Malou's sudden fame and all the attraction she has got from the (male) Danish TV viewers since her appearance on prime time TV in the 2nd round doubles match. "It's not something new", says Malou. "I once got an offer from a men's magazine but declined". "I'd rather be noticed for my tennis" says Malou but she isn't bothered by all the attention.

Aug 8th, 2010, 06:09 AM
Malou is playing 25K Tallinn, Estonia this week. She would normally have to play quali but she got a MD wild card. GL!

Aug 9th, 2010, 09:34 AM
Ejdesgaard has a new career high ranking in singles AND doubles (9 AUG 2010):

Singles - 744
Doubles - 331

The 1st round win at Copenhagen gave Malou 70 wta points in the doubles rankings and moved her 100 positions up. In comparison, Malou's three tournament wins in 2010 were only worth 36 points. This means that winning one 220K 1st round match is worth twice as much (regarding wta points) as winning twelve consecutive 10K matches!!!

This also shows how difficult it is to work your way up from the lower rankings. And it also shows how important it is to perform well and grab your chances once you get the opportunity to play at a bigger tournament!

Singles 1R: (wc)Malou Ejdesgaard vs. (1)Anne Keothavong (GBR)

Doubles 1R: Ejdesgaard/Schutting (EST) vs. Artamonova (RUS)/Marcinkevica (LAT)

Malou is once again facing the 1st seeded player in 1st round! Not much luck in the draws lately...
Keothavong and Ejdesgaard also played against each other in Copenhagen last week (allthough in doubles).

Why is Keothavong playing a $25k challenger?

Aug 9th, 2010, 05:37 PM
Keothavong entered the Copenhagen main draw using her special ranking (from before her injury). I'm not really following her career closely enough to know how often she has entered tournaments using SR. But I think there is a limit of 6 or 8 tournaments?

Maybe she needs to play smaller events to pick up some easy points? Besides, Estonia is relatively close to Copenhagen and many other qualifying players from the e-Boks tournament have entered Tallinn as well (Alexa Glatch, Heather Watson, Johanna Konta, Stephanie Foretz, Emma Laine). And it's hard court. But I agree; it seems odd for a former top 50-player to play 25K.

Aug 10th, 2010, 06:26 PM
Maybe she needs to play smaller events to pick up some easy points?

You are right. That is the reason. Protected rankings has to be used wisely.

Doubles 1R:
Artamonova (RUS)/Marcinkevica (LAT) def. Ejdesgaard/Schutting (EST) 3-6 6-3 [10-6]

It seems like a good performance by Malou in the singles. Keothavong was really good in Copenhagen and had som fantastic serves that even Wozniacki strugled to control (in the doubles match).

Malou says (on http://www.tennissporten.dk/pages/posts/malou-tabte-i-estland-3274.php) that she had some chances to get back into the match, but she didn't take advantage of her opportunities. Malou had two breakpoints being up 3-2 in the second set but Keothavong won the game (and the next three games to close the set).

Malou seems to have a couple of weeks off (she will probably play club matches in Denmark). I suppose her next tournament is:

30 Aug to 05 Sep 2010 - $10,000 Istanbul, Turkey (Hard) (Malou is on the entry list; withdrawal deadline is 17 AUG).

Yes, Malou looks fit (and the photos are quite nice, I think)!

And I can confirm, as suggested in another post, that Malou is in Denmark at the moment playing club matches. Malou played a club match for KB Sunday - winning 6-1 6-0 in the singles and also winning the doubles match. Malou has played in four of KB's five club matches this season and has won all her matches in both singles and doubles.

Malou has played yet another club match in Denmark vs. Odense. She won again both singles and doubles. She won her singles match 6-2 6-2 vs. Trine Hejl. Next week Malou will play in Istanbul.

Here is a short video clip. It's Malou & Wozniacki vs. Meusburger/Voegele in the 1st round of doubles at Copenhagen 2010. Unfortunately the match was never shown on tv or streamed, so this is all we have. It's a very very short clip with excerpts from the match and comments from Malou. Just 56 seconds (in Danish):

Aug 30th, 2010, 01:06 PM
Malou played club matches for KB in the past weekend, and she won again both singles and doubles. She played against the Swedish/Lithuanian junior player Gabriele Bertasiute in the singles, and won 6-2 6-1. Malou was awarded mvp for the second time this season. KB has now won the series comfortably and will go to the playoffs (SF will be played next Saturday, 4th of September).

Malou will play in Istanbul this week and may not be part of KB's SF (depending on how it goes in Turkey).

Malou hurried back from Turkey to play Club championships for her club KB Saturday and Sunday. Saturday KB played the semi final vs. Odense and won the match 6-0. Malou won her singles match vs. Martine Ditlev 7-5 6-1.

Sunday KB played the Club championship final against Birkerød (who has Karen Barbat in the team), and won the final 5-1. Malou again won her singles match (vs. Anne Gylling 6-1 6-2) while Malou's teammate Hanne Skak Jensen defeated Barbat 7-5 6-1. Malou has had a great club season winning all her matches throughout the season in both singles and doubles! This is the 32nd Outdoors championship title for KB, btw!

Malou was in the main draw at the 10K Madrid this week but has withdrawn for some unknown reason (late withdrawal).

Maybe she was too busy watching Caroline's brother in Dancing with the Stars? ;)

A couple of short video clips with Malou. The first one is an interview after the Copenhagen WTA tournament August 2010 (in Danish):

The second clip is some footage (41 seconds) from a junior tournament in Osaka, Japan 2008. It's shot by a bystander and is available in many different resolutions - also 720 and 1080 HD:

Sep 27th, 2010, 06:43 AM
Malou is not playing 25K Helsinki this week anyway: There was another late withdrawal from her
She has also withdrawn from 75K Barnstaple, UK, in the week 04 to 10 October. I don't know if she's injured?

Sep 27th, 2010, 04:02 PM
There is a reason for Malou's recent withdrawals: She has had a severe knee injury (http://sporten.tv2.dk/tennis/article.php/id-33856844:wozniackis-makker-slemt-skadet.html) ("korsbånd" aka anterior cruciate ligament) and will have to rest for quite some time

Nov 19th, 2010, 08:53 AM
I've been away from tennisforum for some time, but here is an article from sporten.dk (http://www.sporten.dk/tennis/tennis-babe-fejrede-caroline) about Malou and how's she's recovering from her injury. It's from 4th of November 2010 (Google translation with a few manual corrections):

Tennis babe celebrating Caroline

Malou Ejdesgaard surprised her friend Caroline with a surprise party when Caroline Wozniacki returned home after a long season.

Caroline Wozniacki and Malou Ejdesgaard has not abandoned the dream of qualifying in the women's doubles for the Olympic Games in London 2012.

- Although I am currently inactive because I had a ligament tear in my right knee two months ago. But since there are almost two years for the Olympics, I still think we can do it, says Malou Ejdesgaard.

Although the 19-year-old tennis player is unable to play tennis at the moment, she currently sees her friend a lot.

- What Caroline has done this season is fantastic. It's almost unbelievable that she is number one in the world. It obviously had to be celebrated when she recently returned to Denmark after having participated in season finale (WTA Championships, ed.). Together with some friends I therefore arranged a surprise party for her, says Malou Ejdesgaard and adds:

- The festivities took place at a Copenhagen café, and continued the day after when we watched FC Copenhagen play against FC Barcelona.

Malou Ejdesgaard and Caroline Wozniacki have known each other since they were eight or nine years old.

- We are very good friends and can talk to each other about everything. In the next week I am going to Monaco to visit her in her apartment down there. I'm very much looking forward to it. Whether we're going on a vacation together later this autumn is not decided yet. But probably not. Caroline has to start preparations for the next season, while I shall continue the rehabilitation of my injured knee at home, says Ejdesgaard.

If everything goes well, Malou will be ready to play tennis again in January.

- Doctors are optimistic about my situation. Since I had surgery (four weeks ago, Ed.) the healing is progressing at almost top speed. So we hope that Caroline and I can play doubles on the Danish national team at the Fed Cup in February. But I don't think I will be physically prepared to play singles so soon. It requires a longer rehabilitation period before I'm at my peak, says Malou Ejdesgaard.

The last time Malou was on the same side of the net with Caroline Wozniacki - at the WTA tournament in Farum in August - the duo reached the second round.

- I think Caroline and I play some good doubles. It is still not known what is required to qualify for the Olympics. But I think we have a decent chance to qualify for London, says Ejdesgaard.

Malou Ejdesgaard/Wozniacki in the doubles @ Copenhagen 2010.

It's from the 2nd round match vs. Keothavong/Smith. NOT a highlights video! It's mainly Malou-stuff (nice rallies!) + a few good actions from the other players:

I seems like Malou has started using twitter (http://twitter.com/MalouEjdesgaard) on a regular basis, so maybe she'll write some news about how she's recovering? Here are some of her recent posts regarding this:

Malou will definitely not be ready for Fed Cup in February. The Danish Fed Cup management have decided to use Wozniacki, Karen Barbat, Mai Grage, and Cecilie Melsted. Malou would have been the obvious choice as the doubles partner for Wozniacki if she was fit, but she'll need some more time. It will be interesting to see if Barbat or Grage will team up with Caroline in the doubles? Karen Barbat (and her team) has had some disputes with the Danish Federation over the years, so welcome back to her!

Btw, here is a photo of Malou when she became Danish U18 champion 2008:

Another Danish article (http://ekstrabladet.dk/sport/anden_sport/tennis/article1482009.ece) says Malou may still play Fed Cup in February. According to Ekstra Bladet, Fed Cup coach Michael Mortensen has placed Malou on the temporary team. Sorry for the confusion...

There was a thread recently in GM about players who are natural blondes and don't dye their hair. Malou is a perfect example. And she's really pretty too.

It's really unfortunate for her to have suffered such a serious injury at this point in her career.

Jan 20th, 2011, 03:21 PM
A new tweet from Malou (http://twitter.com/MalouEjdesgaard) (posted yesterday):

Played tennis for the first time in 4 months yesterday! Feel so sore today, but I managed to play another 25 minutes today :)

Great! But don't rush it. Knee injuries are tricky...

@Spiritof42: I also saw that thread in GM, and I also thought of Malou :)

Jan 24th, 2011, 05:56 PM
The Fed cup draw was made today, and unfortunately Malou won't be fit to participate according to the Danish Fed cup captain Michael Mortensen:

"I trained with Malou a week ago. We agree that it's the best for her if she stays at home until she's fit. She can't run properly yet," says Michael Mortensen (source (http://www.tennissporten.dk/pages/posts/fed-cup-lodtraekning-3758.php)).

So I guess we wont' see her in a 10K the next couple of months either. Maybe April or May?

So I guess we wont' see her in a 10K the next couple of months either. Maybe April or May?

Well its good that they are saying no in consideration of her well being...

She really needs to complete a full rehabilitation, unless she wants recurring problems...

Jan 24th, 2011, 07:06 PM
This is the right decision. No need to force Malou into action and she would also not add much to the team anyway, especially not in her present condition.

Feb 11th, 2011, 08:35 PM
I just found an interview with Malou. It seems like the interview was made as a part of a review of the "Virtua Tennis 4" game, probably from 2009 (?). I have never seen this interview before but it's quite nice!

Finally some good news!

There's a new interview with Malou at tennissporten.dk (http://www.tennissporten.dk/pages/posts/godt-nyt-fra-malou-3817.php). I can't translate it, but she says she has started training tennis again. She hopes to play her first tournament at the end of May in Durban, South Africa. I hope it goes well :)

Malou Ejdesgaard (DEN)/Ana Bogdan (ROU) def. Sophia Dzulynsky (USA)/Yekaterina Sagitova (KAZ) 6-2 6-4 :yeah:

Malou's comments on the match (according to tennissporten.dk (http://www.tennissporten.dk/pages/posts/malou-ejdesgaard-vandt-1.runde-i-tyrkiet-3912.php)):
I play doubles here with Ana Bogdan. I know her from my junior days; we played as a doubles team at Wimbledon and other tournaments. We played well today, but there are still some things I need to work on, of course. But I'm really glad to be back on the tour, and I hope I'll be back at the same level as before my injury as soon as possible.

Malou and Ana at a junior tournament in Mexico January 2009:

May 3rd, 2011, 02:38 PM
Istanbul singles, 1st round

Elizaveta Anna Nemchinov (USA) d. Malou Ejdesgaard (DEN) 6-2 4-6 6-1

Malou says (http://www.tennissporten.dk/pages/posts/malou-ejdesgaard-tabte-i-single-3913.php) she's still not moving as well as before the injury, and she had some problems during the match (mainly lack of confidence in her movements).

But I think Malou did well to take a set. Good luck in the doubles QF!

May 5th, 2011, 07:42 PM
Malou/Bogdan lost the doubles QF:

Malou plays another tournament in Istanbul next week.

May 9th, 2011, 07:00 PM

Malou is up against Evgeniya Svintsova (RUS) in 1st round singles. Svintsova is a 16 year old junior.

Malou lost 1st round singles:

Evgeniya Svintsova (RUS) d. Malou Ejdesgaard 6-2 2-6 6-1

May 11th, 2011, 09:37 AM
Still some way to go..

May 11th, 2011, 05:30 PM
Yes, she probably needs at least a couple of months before she's on the same level as 2010. There are some comments from her at tennissporten (http://www.tennissporten.dk/pages/posts/malou-fortsaetter-testen-i-istanbul-3928.php) after yesterday's singles match. She says (among other things) that her form is not good enough for three sets yet. But it seems like she's doing well in the doubles:

1R: Julia SAMUSEVA (RUS) defeated Malou EJDESGAARD (DEN) (7) 7-5 5-7 6-4

The match lasted 3h 35 mins! Malou's knee must be ok, and her form can't be too bad. She still has some way to go though...

QF: (1) Ejdesgaard/Rottmann (AUT) d. Fourouclas (RSA)/Kapoor (IND) 6-3 6-3

Too bad, but still a good result for Malou in the doubles. She's playing another tounament in Durban next week. The draw is out (http://www.itftennis.com/womens/tournaments/drawsheetbyround.asp?tournament=1100024127), and Malou is up against Janet Koch in the 1st round, a 15 year old junior from South Africa.

1R: (7)Malou Ejdesgaard (DEN) d. Janet Koch (RSA) 63 64

Well done! This was Malou's first win since her return (actually the first win since August 2010!). Malou also won the 1st round of doubles (again with Rottmann, Austria).

QF: (3)Katerina Kramperova (CZE) d. (7)Malou Ejdesgaard (DEN) 60 Ret.

Malou had troubles with her knee again and had to retire. She was able to play the doubles, however, because she don't have to move as much. She's now in a doubles final for the 2nd consecutive week. Malou's comments on her injury at tennissporten.dk (http://www.tennissporten.dk/pages/posts/knaeet-driller-malou-3973.php).

May 27th, 2011, 11:11 PM
I seriously hope she looks after that knee... It sounds worrisome?

Get well soon Majlou

Jun 1st, 2011, 03:33 PM
Malou got a main draw wild card for Copenhagen WTA. She's also playing doubles with Caroline.

I really think a Q wild card would have been better. But I'm sure Malou's priorities are in the doubles tournament where she has a reasonable chance of winning a round or two (depending on the draw) earning some valuable doubles point.

Source (http://e-bokssonyericssonopen.dk/nyheder/nyheder/2011/6/1/wildcard-til-malou-ejdesgaard.aspx) (in Danish).

Jun 1st, 2011, 04:12 PM
Main draw WC was a mistake, I think. She will probably get slaughtered in R1.

Jun 2nd, 2011, 07:13 PM
Yes, a WC for the Q would have been much better. Not good timing when she is just returning from South Africa where she was unable to finish her single match. Would be sad to see her killed in 1R or having to retire.

But good luck to Malou anyway. Hope she does well.

Jun 4th, 2011, 08:15 PM
She plays Copenhagen MD :cheer:
First round against Mattek-Sands (3) :scared:

Jun 4th, 2011, 08:44 PM
This is way over her league. And she has only a few matches in the bag after a year long injury. Hope that she is able to give an acceptable performance but I have my doubts :)

DR1: (wc)Ejdesgaard/Wozniacki v (wc)Boserup/Grage

Jun 5th, 2011, 01:27 PM

Bliver nok svært at få billet hvis de ikke købes inden mandag aften...

Copenhagen WTA, doubles, 1st round:

(wc) Ejdesgaard/Wozniacki d. (wc)Mai Grage (DEN)/Julia Boserup (USA) 6-4 6-1

This win will move Malou c. 100 positions up in the doubles ranking! Next round will probably be a lot more difficult, but GL!

Malou lost 4-6 0-6 to Mattek Sands.Pretty solid I guess.Didnt expect so close first set...

Yes, much better than expected. But Malou made way to many UE's (and 6 DF's, if I'm not mistaken). But all in all a better performance than last year.

Jun 9th, 2011, 05:59 PM
Saw the double loss yesterday. Malou made some good moves at the net but she also made way too many errors. Especially on the return she looked too slow. Still a long way to go, however a better performance compared to last year. I wish her good luck when she returns to low tier tournaments in the coming weeks. Anyone who know her schedule?

Jun 10th, 2011, 07:48 AM
I missed the match, but I saw some excerpts on the half-hour tv2 program. Someone said (Piotr, I think) that this was the best he had seen from Caroline and Malou.

I think Malou should focus even more on the doubles. She could really use a steady doubles partner in order to win more, earn more ranking points, and getting (doubles) entry to somewhat bigger tournaments. But it's probably too early in her career to become a specialised doubles player.

Malou is playing a 10K in Alcobaca, Portugal (Hard) 20 Jun to 26 Jun, and most likely a 10K in Spain the week after that.

Jun 12th, 2011, 07:30 AM

It's actually written in the post just above yours (but I guess it could have been underlined a bit better). Malou's next tournament is:

20 Jun to 26 Jun: 10,000$ Alcobaca, Portugal (Hard)

The week after that she probably plays a 10 K in Melilla, Spain.

They took it, right?

Jun 24th, 2011, 02:58 PM
The final is supposed to be played today but I haven't seen any results yet.

Jun 24th, 2011, 03:05 PM
They were playing today, but the live scoring cut out at something like 6-2, 5-1, so I just assumed they did it.

Oh, I see. Hopefully they won then (or it would have been the chokefest of the decade)!

Jun 24th, 2011, 03:55 PM
And the 3 games they had lost by that point were all breaks. Thankfully they were up to 6 breaks themselves by that point.

Disappointing loss in doubles, but a surprising and very good win in singles! Congrats with the first semi final in more than a year.

Heavy loss in the final. But good week by Malou

Jul 3rd, 2011, 01:52 AM
Yes, Malou lost 6-0 6-1.

But it has been a really good week. This tournament had a rather weak draw, but Malou still had to beat the #1 and #3 seeded players on her way to the final. Well done.

Jul 6th, 2011, 11:13 AM
Malou is playing a 10K in Valladolid, Spain, this week. Her 1st round singles match will probably be played today.

Jul 8th, 2011, 04:58 AM
Malou lost in 1st round singles in three sets.

But she's in yet another final in doubles - her fifth consecutive final on ITF level since her injury return! GL!

Jul 9th, 2011, 04:46 PM
Superb, we need more Danish players to do well, BIG well done Malou

Malou will play a 25K in Wrexham, GBR, next week (18 Jul to 24 Jul). She'll have to play qualies.

Malou's doubles form has been great lately, and hopefully she'll get a good partner for the doubles!

Jul 17th, 2011, 07:46 PM
The Q-draw for 25K Wrexham, GBR, is available here (http://www.lta.org.uk/NewWebsite/LTA/Documents/Fans%20News%20and%20Major%20Events/Results/2011/AEGON%20Pro-Series/Wrexham-JUL/Women-singles-qualifying.pdf) (will also be available at ITF's page, of course).

Malou is up against a British junior (born 1995) in the first round.

Jul 17th, 2011, 07:47 PM
Malou is seeded 2 in Wrexham Qualies... its a weak draw so she may win her way into MD.

Jul 18th, 2011, 06:06 PM

Malou won 6-0, 7-5 :)

Jul 18th, 2011, 06:42 PM

Next opponent is Lauren MCMINN, (GBR).

It's a tough first round for Malou! Malou is playing dubs with her friend and Gosling partner Tara Moore, GBR. They could have a good run here. GL :)

Sep 2nd, 2011, 11:49 AM
any idea of her schedule for september guys?

Sep 2nd, 2011, 05:47 PM
She may play some club finals in Denmark September 3 & 4. That's probably not what you're looking for, but there should be a chance of live streaming from these matches. It uncertain, though, whether Malou will be playing.

She has a 25K Redding, USA, on her schedule later in September. That's all I know about, but she'll probably try to enter other tournaments in America the weeks after.

Sep 4th, 2011, 06:16 AM
Mai Grage and Malou playing doubles for their club KB yesterday:

KB won the semifinal and will play the Danish championship final today against Lyngby. Malou will probably not play singles, but I expect her to play doubles. The event will be streamed from c. 13:00 CET.

Sep 4th, 2011, 02:25 PM
Malou played doubles with Karin Ildor Jacobsgaard today, but it wasn't streamed
The Men's 1. doubles was streamed in stead of the women's doubles (perhaps understandable, as Denmarks best male player, Frederik Løchte Nielsen, was playing).

Malou/Karin won their match in two sets. There's still streaming from the event (http://www.dr.dk/Sporten/Baggrund/2011/08/31/140006.htm), but we won't see Malou, as she won't play singles. It has been quite interesting otherwise (for anyone understanding Danish), as there has been great interviews with coaches and some great commetary from Simon Verner. DR (Danish radio, the national tv) doesn't prioritize sport (or tennis) rather high, but they've done very well covering these club finals. I hope we'll see more stuff like this in the future!

Sep 8th, 2011, 12:02 PM
Malou Ejdesgaard on twitter (http://twitter.com/#!/MalouEjdesgaard):

Going to America tomorrow for 4 weeks....

I guess her schedule will be something like this:

12 Sep / 18 Sep 11 $25,000 REDDING, CA, USA
19 Sep / 25 Sep 11 $75,000 ALBUQUERQUE, NM, USA
26 Sep / 02 Oct 11 $10,000 AMELIA ISLAND, FL, USA or:
26 Sep / 02 Oct 11 $50,000 LAS VEGAS, NV, USA

Sep 12th, 2011, 07:33 AM
25K Redding, USA

Malou lost in the 1st round of qualification to an american junior wild card. I assume Malou will play doubles too, but I haven't seen the doubles draw yet. It would be fun is she teamed up with Danish-American Julia Boserup!

Sep 12th, 2011, 03:50 PM
This is a very poor result. The opponent does not even have a junior ITF ranking (or ever played an ITF match) :(
