C'mon Kim! Kick some 'you know what's' in the States!

Kim had a bye in the 1st round and has to play Cara Black in the 2nd round.
Not an easy task as Cara is a very talented player but Kim should win this one in straight sets, maybe three if she starts rushing again .

Go for it Kim!

BTW, they have a weird set-up in Stanford, don't they? Both courts side by side, very strange!

Phew, that was a close match! Kim won 6-2 3-6 7-5.
I knew Cara was a tough one but I didn't expect it to be that hard. Kim said that she had trouble adjusting to the fading light as she had been training in full daylight. Me thinks she was just a lil' hasty again .

But the important thing is that she came through and she might benefit from such a tough match. She had time to find her rhythm and range and she'll probably feel confident by winning.

Next up is Chanda Rubin, one of my favourites too and another tough cookie but I'll say Kim in 3 sets!

Phew and well done Kimmie!

Hmmm... Chanda seems on fire, but Kimmie will win eventually after a though match.

Jul 28th, 2001, 01:25 AM
A good solid win over Chanda today, 6-3 6-1.

She plays Shaughnessy and not Venus in the semis. It will be an interesting match as Meghann lead their head to heads 2-1 but Kim won the last match at Wimbledon.

Go Kim!

It was a really tight match at Wimb though, went to two tie-break sets. Wish I could see this match on TV, but no coverage again
So, Josh, I'll be relying on your expert analysis again!

Edited, as forgot to say Go Kim!

Great win over Shaughessy!
I was a bit scared for this match as I knew Kim would struggle against her, like she always does but she really blew Meghann offf the court in the last set.

Now she has to play against her black beast Davenport. She lost to her 4 times in a row, the last two times very easily. But this is hardcourts and somehow Kim always does a little better on them. So I think we'll see a 3 sets match but I can't predict a winner. They will show the final live tonight so I'll be watching!

Go Kim!

I'm so jealous you get to see the final live!Eurosport haven't shown any of the tournament yet, and they're not putting the final on until Monday afternoon. Great. Do they not think that tennis fans actually go to work?!

Sorry, just needed to let off some steam!

Great news that Kim made the final, but like you Josh - I'm a bit concerned that she'll have to play Lindsay! She doesn't exactly have a great record against her

But, let's look at it this way, sooner or later she's bound to break the 'jinx' & when better than this final? It would give her tremendous confidence for the US Open if she could beat her today.

So here's hoping...

You can do it Kim!!

She played an excellent match, making Lindsay run and returning everything she could. She also served well and returned Lindsay's serve well which was the main problem last month at Wimbledon.

Kim is now #5 and I have a feeling that she won't stay there cause hardcourts are definitely her favourite surface. She always can do a bit more on them.

GO KIM!

I've just seen a recording of the final (eventually!) and it was great to see Kim win - not just her first title of the year, after all those finals, but defeating Lindsay for the first time.
She played really well & handled the situation brilliantly. Bodes well for the US Open...

Well done Kim!
