I find it peculiar that 4 of the top 10 happened at the same tournament to all Americans and are identical in speed.

Stevenson couldnt serve that fast could she? anyways i think this list is wrong, because Venus hit her fastest serve at the French Open......I remember cause she didnt pay attention the next point because of it.... And I feel like Serena got a 128 last year....

That list is wrong, also did not Brenda hit a 130 mph delivery and got back the record briefly not too long ago, which Venus also matched then in 2008??

I was thinking the same thing. Brenda hit the serve in Cincinnati qualifying and Venus matched it at 2008 Zurich. This list is a tad outdated. ;) Whoever put this list together didn't pull it from the right place. Weird, though, that 2009 events are on here, so why would they ignore Venus' Zurich ace? And Brenda's Cincinnati qualifying serve.

well they only include Main Draw matches in the list so the qualies wouldnt be on there, but yeah thats why i said it was wrong cause they had SOME 2009 results, but I knew Serena had gotten pretty close to it herself last year...... Also why are the 123 people even on there? I mean if its fastest serves.....should the top numbers by Brenda/ Serena/ Venus make up the top ten since they can hit 123 regularly?

I guess Bali's serve speeds from last year were incorrect/unverifiable. Sabine hit 129 there and Sam had one close to that also.

Or the WTA researchers are just lazy.

If anyone knows the real stats on this it should be compiled and sent to the wta tour. I know Brenda Schultz broke the record in qualiying a few years back and it wasn't the speed she's got on the list.

Probably Bali is unreliable, pretty improbable that the record would be broken twice in the same week when it's been held for years

Memphis & Cincinatti have been giving weird speeds too, IMO.

Maria's serve was 121 mph or 194.7 kmh.
However not all tournaments are considered for speed records.
Note: IDS only collects serve speed data on show courts at certain events (12 this year) and started doing so in 1989

At her first and 2nd career slam (AO/05 and RG/05) Ana Ivanovic served fastest serves of both events (about 195kmh or above) and in her last season with Wilson racquet she finaly broke 200kmh edge at Roland Garros. But she and her team is unhappy with her 1st serve IN percentage and decide to do big changes into her opening shot, than she switch to Yonex and finally has some serious problems with her shoulder so at USO/9 and AO/10 her tournaments fastest first serve is down to under-175 :help:

At Roland Garros this season she finally serve again 190+ serve after long pause, but she is still so long away from 2005-2007 girl which everybody predict that she will have most powerful WTA serve after famous sisters

Poor brenda has been robbed off her 130 mph one  The tour desparately wants a star at top :tape: I saw her interview sometime ago.. She was so happy to have cloaked 130 mph serve.. Thats why she made a comeback apparantly.. But WTA found a way to rob her off that glory

The Birmingham speed gun was :bs: and the first year they've had it. It was saying sliced second serves were coming down at 95mph - it was juiced by at least 5-8mph estimating conservatively. Rezai's average first serve over three matches at Roland Garros this year was 98mph (with her average top speed of the match being 113mph) and she was routinely getting clocked at 110+ multiple times in games on that court in Brum, as was pretty much everyone bar Sesil .

I can't see why serena doesn't just BASH one ball mindlessly into the middle of the service box with every bit of weight she has (she has a bit after all) and get the 130. Or the 131 maybe. When she's up 6-0 5-1 or something

Shame that they don't keep list of ace leaders on the wta tour.
