Expected for me, many players have similar results right after their comebacks...of course if you not include Henin, Clijsters etc:p

The REAL comeback queen, Alicia Molik. :worship:

Let's not forget Alicia played her first main draw comeback match in Brisbane in January. Best of luck to Ashley!

she needs to come back in MM event

Alicia started her comeback last September in little ol' Darwin playing two $25Ks in horribly hot conditions. Looks like the modest humble approach to a comeback paid off. Stosur did the same two years ago starting off in US challengers. Harkleroad is hardly the awesome sort of player who can hit a premier tournament first up and make something off it.

Well done Alicia. Enjoy those two breadsticks.

Her comeback didn't last "45 minutes" unless she plans on retiring for good tomorrow. This was just one match with more to come.
Not a surprising result--she's been away for some time and Alicia is in good form.

Besides, maybe she needs the money--this tour isn't cheap, you know.

After reading the thread title I expected it was yet another early retirement by our Ashley!!!

But no, she stayed till the end, so thats ok...a bit more respect than she usually gets.

If Ashley didn't play this tournament she would have been ineligible to use a protected ranking in future tournaments. She even said last week she wasn't ready yet...

But now that she played the match, she can have 7 more protected ranking entries for when she starts her real comeback.

Yes, allot of us realize this :D. However, it still would have been a good idea to get some match play in at 1 of the 2 25Ks that were held in Florida over the past 2 weeks. Oh well, what's done is done. Hopefully she'll head to a few ITF tourneys that are coming up in the south. They're all held on clay which is her best surface... GL ASH! :bounce:

Btw, CONGRATS ALICIA! :bounce:

How high did she get. I know she is featured in the PS2 tennis game Top spin but i hardly saw her play I was not as interested in tennis as i am now when she left. So hopefully she will come back.

Alicia deserves every single WC she gets because she's playing at a top 30 level and if she can have a decent clay court season she will be top 30 sooner rather than later. Keep it going Alicia - one handed backhands have been going out of fashion and you have a great one.

Serious question. How did she look? Her tennis, that is. Is she rusty? How was her movement? How was her stamina?

Ashley got as high as like 35-40 I think but that was back in 2003 or 2004. She was really having a good 2008 but then she got pregnant. I think her PR is 60-70 range?

Harkleroad was overrated from Jump.

This result, despite her long layoff, is no surprise.

Thank you for the info...
In answer to how well she was playing not a clue i only was watching on the scoreboard. She did not hold serve once though... But did break molik to love i think. She won 1 point on her 2nd serve out of 18 and hit 6 DFs.

She had a nagging elbow injury after her inner ear infection sent her downhill 3 or 4 years ago. It wasn't as simple as an on/off switch. It took 1 year's retirement to let her body rest and rekindle the desire to play tennis again.

Really happy that she could be back in the top 100 as soon as Miami is over. This means she will have direct entry into the French and Wimbledon.

I guess I didn't realize this.
Bet the money for a 1R loss doesn't hurt either.

I'm just annoyed with her for not really putting everything into her tennis. She's just like, "let's see how things go..." You can't win matches like that.

Mar 24th, 2010, 02:09 AM
She really doesn't.

:o Oh yeah you're right (haven't seen her play in such a long long time) she has a very good forehand that she dominates with and quite a flat slice on the backhand which in this day and age is a tricky shot to deal with for the ball bashers so all in all she should keep moving up the rankings with her game.

Well I don't expect Harkleroad to reach the top 50 ever again to be honest. But it's good she's coming back to do what she loves to do which is playing tennis.

So Disrespectful

Another win for Alicia. :yeah:

Pretty much expected, but hopefully Ashley can work her way back into form.

It's more like Gonzalez. She can slice well, but it's 50/50 when she comes over it.

Not necessarily, the results are consistent with her pre- baby ability. Henin and Kim were former no.1s and slam winners, there comebacks were bound to be significant.

How many WCs is she allowed to have? Does she have an unlimited supply or something? This is her 5th or 6th already this year.
