Harkleroad to return to WTA tour in Miami
Ticker - Tuesday, March 16, 2010

Another new mom will return to the tour next week -- American Ashley Harkleroad has entered Miami with a protected ranking of No. 70. The former Playboy cover model took a leave from the tour in October of 2008 to have her first child, Charlie, with her husband and coach, Chuck Adams.

I don't think I'm ready yet but I need to get jump-started on my tournaments so that I don't lose my protected ranking, Harkleroad said at Indian Wells. Ive only been practicing hard for a month, but I'm hitting well and my movement is coming back slowly. I am excited about returning but I also love being a full time mom so I guess time will tell.

The 25-year-old Harkleroad is allowed to play eight tournaments under her protected ranking and also accept wild cards. She reached a career high No. 39 in 2003. I am hoping Ill find my game and enjoy everything during the process. I have to try and see if I like tennis plus baby.M.C.

:woohoo:

I saw yesterday that she was playing WTT, so wondered if she was to be back soon. It doesn't sound like she is quite ready but hopefully she can pull it back together before RG.

Come on ASH!!!

Is it me or does she just seem *really* ambivalent about the whole thing?

Someone needs to rattle her cage if she's going to have any chance at winning main draw matches.

Great to see her back, even if she's going to struggle for the next couple of months getting her match form back.

If she is not ready why doesn't she play ITFs instead of wasting a spot in the draw.

You may have used ambivalent incorrectly; it is a common misconception that ambivalence = a soft apathy.

Anyways, I hope Ashley comes back and rocks back up into the top 70 at least :]

I am SO excited to have Ashley back. I know she is still in love with new motherhood, so I think she will limit her schedule to the U.S. for now, but with her PR, I don't know. Her best results at the Grand Slams have come at the French, so we'll see...

wouldn't it would have been better if she would have came back in PVB and Charleston since she was a better on clay and since she would get a bit more time to get ready? I feel that Miami is a waste of WC or protected ranking for her. SHe doesn't sound ready and convinced that it's what she wanna do etheir

She was playing really well before she left. Didn't she beat Safina at Indian Wells, in 08'?

I agree though. She does seem a little conflicted over which course of action to take.

She doesn't know if she really wants to come back, she's not sure that she'll cope with being a mother and a tennis player, she doesn't think she's ready, yet she's decided to jump in and play anyway. I think this qualifies as ambivalence.

Anyway, I'd love to see her back. I've actually missed her, and I think she can achieve more in her career.

Why? Money. Bitch has mouths to feed and she doesn't have Clijster's bank account! I'm sure Ashley will make more money losing in the first round of Miami than winning an ITF. Makes sense to me.

I think she HAS to play Miami to be able to use her protected ranking. She had her baby on 30th March 2009 and to use the protected ranking for maturnity you have to play a WTA tournament within 12 months.... Hence playing Miami and just as her 12-months is up!

So excited that she's back! Hopefully things turn out well and she finds a happy medium between tennis and motherhood. :D

I think she has a chance to win, if she draws Dokic first round. :p

As far as I know, I used it correctly.
She needs to get off the fence.

She'll return in Miami? Will she shoot nude pictures or make a strip show on the main court or play tennis?
