Scott Evans (Left) as Oliver Fish & Brett Claywell (Right) as Kyle Lewis.

This won’t go down well with the LGBT community. One Life to Live stars Brett Claywell and Scott Evans—who play gay couple Kyle and Fish—are being written off the show and will be gone by mid-April.

“We are concluding the story that we set out to tell with Kyle and Fish,” says executive producer Frank Valentini. “We are very proud to have broken new ground with a same-sex couple on daytime.”

Word is, the decision to drop the duo didn’t come easily. Kish has been a big success with the media and the show’s gay fans, and gay-advocacy groups have showered OLTL with awards for creating the trail-blazing couple. But sources at the network say the duo failed to resonate with the mainstream audience. Ratings for the ABC soap were particularly dismal in late 2009 during the weeks that Fish came out of the closet and he and Kyle officially became a couple. Also playing simultaneously was a sprawling plot that had Robin Strasser’s character, Dorian, pretending to be a lesbian in order to win the gay vote in the Llanview mayoral race. A case of gay overkill? Perhaps.

Here are the plans for the Kish wrap-up: Spoiler Alert! On the March 29 episode, Fish will learn for certain what viewers have known for quite a while—he’s the biological father of baby Sierra Rose, via his drunken one-nighter with psychotic stripper Stacy Morasco (Crystal Hunt). With Stacy now dead, there are rumblings of a custody battle with Stacy’s sister Gigi (Farah Fath) but, ultimately, the law is on Fish’s side and the two dads will blissfully start a new life with the baby.

A show rep says the characters will not actually leave Llanview and, because Fish is a cop, he may pop up in a crime-related capacity down the line—but no promises are being made.

Scott Evans, Brett Claywell out as OLTL's Kish

ABC has announced that it's made the difficult decision to bring to an end one of its most-talked about storylines. Brett Claywell and Scott Evans are out as Kyle and Oliver. The pair will remain in Llanview, but their on-screen time will come to an end in April.

It's the end of the line for one of One Life to Live's most popular couples. The ABC soap has confirmed that Brett Claywell (Kyle Lewis) and Scott Evans (Oliver Fish) will exit the show next month. The news comes only a few days after Evans denied talk that he wanted out of the show.

"We are concluding the story that we set out to tell with Kyle and Fish," executive producer Frank Valentini said in a statement. "We are very proud to have broken new ground with a same-sex couple on daytime."

Earlier this week, soapcentral.com first reported on the rumors stating that Evans was looking to leave the show. Evans, who has reportedly auditioned for at least one primetime project, took to Twitter to let fans know that he did not want to leave the show. Ultimately, though, Evans acknowledge that the decision was out of his hands.

"I have no plans to leave OLTL, everyone," Evans tweeted. "It's not even really in my hands!"

The pairing of Kyle and Fish -- known affectionately as Kish -- has helped to raise One Life to Live's visibility since their journey began last year. The two former frat brothers' blossoming relationship helped draw new viewers to the 41-year-old soap, viewers who might not have previously watched a soap, but tuned in because they were intrigued by a storyline that dealt with a topic they hadn't before seen addressed on daytime television. Mainstream gay and lesbian publications, including the Advocate and Instinct, also featured regular coverage of the story.

However, network officials reportedly were concerned that the couple did not catch on with a larger audience. TVGuide reports "the decision to drop the duo didn’t come easily."

In future story, Oliver will learn on March 29 that he's Sierra Rose's biological father. Oliver will eventually get custody of the infant, and he and Kyle will start their family together... off-screen. The pair is expected to last air sometime in mid-April.

Evans has been on recurring status since he made his One Life to Live debut in January 2008. Claywell, a contract player, bowed the following month, on February 24, 2009.

Damn, I've been following the Kish storyline at youtube. :o They are such an adorable couple
Scott Evans is Chris Evans little gay brother who is publicly out, btw.

After all the gay characters and couples on American TV we get this? I think it is TV execs gone lunatic again. Or it is a sponsor that is complaining. Not gereneral homophobia

Scott Evans is Chris Evans brother
Tuesday, January 06, 2009

Actor Chris Evans had an interview with advocate.com and admitted he has a gay brother named Scott Evans. Scott Evans [photos after the jump] appeared in one of the episodes of "Fringe".

Here is part of the interview:

I read on PerezHilton.com that your younger brother Scott is gay.
Yes, I do have a gay brother. I'm down with the gays. Mostly I'm hanging out with him and his gay buddies, who are fucking hilarious. They're the funniest people I know.

Do they take you to gay bars?
They've invited me out to gay bars before, and I said, "Look, guys, I've got to draw the line there." That's where a photo will get taken, it will run in magazines, and before you know it, I'll be living down the gay rumor for the rest of my life.

He's been in some movies...he's American. Not Another Teen Movie, Push, Fantastic Four - not exactly blockbusters, but he's still relatively well known.

Ratings, Rants and Raves: Kish Exits, So Do OLTL Viewers

http://img.tvfanonline.com/data/573/kish.JPG

It was a horrendous week for daytime soaps ratings-wise (Source: Soap Opera Network), One Life to Live hit a new low as fans tuned out in droves, following the shoddy, fear-based exit of groundbreaking supercouple Kyle (Brett Claywell) and Fish (Scott Evans). OLTL lost 227,000 total viewers, hitting the soap opera's all-time low rating. OLTL was also down year-to-date 310,000 not-so-mainstream viewers, and was dead last among total viewers.

The soap I used to race home to watch first every day, but now can go days on end without even being bothered to look at, also dropped one-tenth of a ratings point in households, tying it's record low in that demo. Among women 18-49, OLTL went down a crushing two-tenths of a point, tying their low in that demo as well. Looks like the Kish fans have spoken.

I'm not surprised they're being written out.

It's a soap and as we all well know, gay relationships never have any drama in real life - so it's just unrealistic.

Oliver's coming out story was pretty realistic actually and most of the straight stories in soap are unrealistic and overdramatic as well

People still watch several decades running soaps

Would people care if the couple were butt ugly? it would be so refreshing to see 2 gay/lesbian characters on one show and they wouldn't be an item, heck even in dislike!

A well written story will always find an audience. If I'm not mistaken OLTL had five gay characters during the Kish storyline and only two were actually a couple  No offence but wasn't the appeal of Fish that he wasn't your typical soap hunk. He had rolls for god's sake, bless him

It sure was. Unfortunately that was the only reason to watch OLTL. I miss watching Scott Evans.

Why is it too late? They never really killed their characters or made them leave Llanview. Oliver, Kyle and Sierra Rose are still in Llanview, they are just invisible. It's so easy to bring them back. :o

American version of Christian & Oliver? They will remake the whole German soap or just the Christian & Oliver part?

It's the Christian & Oliver story only, though I'm sure they had to buy the whole rights of the show in order to do that.

I forgot to add
It's too late because OLTL will probably be axed within the next coming months. Plus I doubt Scott, who is a gay man in real life, will ever agree to go back to that show. I'm sure we'll get to see Brett in some other projects . It seems like he's been auditioning for roles hardcore.
