Mariah and Nick just talked to Ryan Seacrest and her diamond bracelet got caught on her dress by her breast . She looked glam as usual with a sheer black Marilyn Monroe type dress with a high slit up the side ;)

I just put up a poll for Best Actress and Best Actor. I made it so you could vote more than once so i could combine the polls into one thread :p. So please give 1 vote per category ;)

Is that poll who we think will win or who we think should win?

WILL win ;)

I think Best Actress is the toughest to predict of all this years major categories. I think Sandra is the odds on fave, but the Academy could have a soft spot for Gaby's amazing breakthrough performance or for Meryl who's long overdue for another win .

I think Jeff Bridges and Sandra Bullock will win. Jeff seems more like a career award than just for this film. It's a reasonable film and the performances are good. I'm a big Jeff Bridges fan, but I was really impressed by Jeremy Renner in Hurt Locker and would love to see him take it.

Blind Side is not out in the UK yet so not seen it. Having heard bad things I guess I wouldn't support Sandra's win except she seems like a nice person! I want Carey Mulligan to win, or maybe Gabourey.

My few thoughts pre-game:

I have come to terms with Avatar, and although I will not be happy if it wins, I can accept it. However, if Kathryn Bigelow loses best directed to James Cameron, I will never watch the Oscars again.

For best actress, I still really think Meryl Streep had the better performance, but I wouldn't mind seeing Sandra Bullock winning. Her performance isn't the best, but she has a very good body of work and I'm glad she is finally getting recognition.

For best picture, I have Inglourious Basterds as my upset pick. With the new style of voting, and their win at the SAG awards, I think they can make a run at it. I would love to see the final voting scores because (realistically) I don't think it will win, but it will get a lot of votes.

Finally, I'm more excited about this awards show then any other (since I started watching with Crash's win in 2006), and I think it is for a few reasons: 1) they were pushed back, so I was able to see all of the best pic nominees and most of the others, 2) it isn't a forgone conclusion, and 3) I actually like the front runners this year.

Good luck to everyone  Can't wait for the start!

I think part of it is the person they're talking about. For example, Meryl Streep is very close with both Baldwin and Martin, and she found the joke hilarious, so I think they felt it wasn't offensive. Also, when they talked about the cast of Precious, they kept it short, un-specific, and not controversial.

That being said, if Clooney was really upset, they might've stepped overboard with what they said to him. Also, when they talked to Mirren, I felt like they were crossing a line, not necessarily because of what they said, but because she seems very serious.

Clooney is such an ass hat. They were nothing but jokes, that's all. Meryl received the brunt of them and all she did was laugh. I thought both Steve and Alec were hilarious. I hate when entertainers take themselves so serious they can't endure a few jabs here and there.

Agreed. It bothers me when movies get on a roll and just win everything. Or, for example, Lee Daniels getting nominated for directing Precious. Yes, the movie was good, but it's weak parts don't deserve to win over other (even if they're worse overall) movies.

What did she say? Mine froze..

She said "I want to thank the Academy, for keeping it about the performance and not about politics."

I believe her performance was good, but it sounded like a slap in the face to the other four nominees. :/

But she did say "Sometimes you have to forgo what's popular to do what is right." That was nice.

Weird comment by Mo'Nique at the beginning of her speech. Was she saying that they were rewarding her even though she didn't actively campaign for it?

Yes, it did sound that way. Like- "we all know I'm the best, so thank you for honoring me"
