Quite strong top 5 seeds. And Melinda can challenge them all if she plays well too!

Looking forward to this event. Hopefully it turns out good and becomes a regular event and doesnt follow Vina Del Mar's route. :tape:

This is only the 2nd time that I can remember that 2 top 10 players are entered in an International event-Marbella had Serena and Jelena and for some reason they increased the prize money to a Premier level tournament almost. Will the same thing happen here??
It is a very strong field, the organisers have done a good job. Nice to see so many top players committing to a new tournament.:D

Any pictures of the arena?

Not much is posted on the tournament website, centre court has seating for 2500 spectators, Court 1 and 2-seating for 152 people. So I guess it'll be what they call "an intimate setting". Its in the country's "premier horse riding club". No pictures that I can find though, of a trophy or anything:awww:

Yes, indeed the organiser has been doing good...No surprise coz the Tournament Director is an experienced one, Mr. Kevin Livesey who was known for managing WTA Wismilak in Surabaya, KL then Bali...then changed into C'wealth Bank Classic and now C'wealth Bank Tournament of Champions...Mr. Livesey is living in KL with his Malaysian wife:D...

I'm surprised by how this event attracted the good players.

But I doubt it will attract a lot of crowds, especially from how the exho went last December.:o

Elena is such a tournament whore this year. :bigcry:

She learnt from Caro and JJ that being a tournament whore could allow her to reach her third slam final.

Dementieva wants to become the next MM queen?

miffedmax
Feb 18th, 2010, 12:57 PM
Lena's looking to pile up her title count. She skipped all the MM when she was a bebanged little tyke of 18 & 19. She really should have more than 16. I say go for it. I mean it's not like she's going to rack up a bunch of slams, and she has enough respectable nonslam titles that fattening her totals with some MMs will help solidify her legacy as a near-great of the 00s.j

Plus, she's so adorkable when she does her goofy victory dance. :hearts:

This looks decent for a lower Tier tourny.
When's the draw done?

What are the data on this.....I only remember 2 tier 1 titles.

3 Tier I's (Tokyo 06, Moscow 07, Canada 09) plus Olympic Gold in 08. And a whole load of Tier II titles too. Elena has had to beat as many as 3 top 10 players to win some of those Tier II's. Anything Tier II and above is usually considered a "respectable" title for any elite player (of course winning Internationals is by no means easy).

You can see that Taiwan's Chen Yi, ranked 611, can also play qualifying without WC......
But sadly, the list doesn't include Zhang Ling......Just hope that she is in the MDWC......
