So you think you know it all
But that's just the arrogance of youth
I've been there and I've done it, baby
I'm tellin' you the truth
Your Momma was a tear away
I used to think I knew it all
Thought I could play the game and not get played, no
But then the fall.

Don't you go pull a fast one
I used to be an awful rascal
Do you think you invented being bad?
I used to be a real rough-hewn
But had to become a tough one
Do you think you invented being bad?

I bet you think I look respectable
You should've seen me in my prime
You'd have thought that I was headed for, oh yeah
I life of crime.
I bet you think that you're the clever one, clever one
The one that got away.
Well, I've seen them come and seen them go, oh yeah
But I have it made.

I'm as sweet as I can be
I've earned respectability.
Do you know I have a history?
You won't get to pull the wool over my eyes
Fool, if you think you'll make a fool of me

Nothing you do remotely new.
It all been done, when I was young
In younger days I went astray
You mighta say, it's all a haze

It's all been done, your brand new craze
It all begun at Momma's place

Don't you go pull a fast one
I used to be an awful rascal
Do you think you invented being bad?
I used to be a real rough-hewn
But had to become a tough one
Do you think you invented being bad?

Which works because comparatively few people in the USA know of Roisin Murphy. 'Course, IMO Roisin Murphy brings the hotness.

:haha: Thanks for the info. 'course it was more fun when I thought she was having a go at other artistes.

On the song - I think the music and production are weak. The vocal styling and melody I like. If she'd called Timbaland . . .

Ooo... I'm a big roisin and moloko fan. I loved her 1st solo CD but the 2nd one didn't impress me after the initial few exciting listens.

But I actually like the sound of this. She's getting all early 90s on us when in the mid 90s this is exactly what Moloko took us away from. :)

I miss her collaborations with Matthew Herbert though. Is there any sign of him working with her again?

And I like how she's trying to experiment with the 90's sound, just like Bloc Party did in 'One more chance'.

I love Roisin too but this is kind of blah :o And if this is an attack on Gaga then it's lame, if you want to attack someone you should atleast do it with a decent song that can compete with songs from the bashed artist and this definitely can't.

Ease up on the idiocy please. How well-known someone is has nothing to do with whether they originated a style or not. In fact, as in this case, it's usually the opposite. Have a look at one of the links posted above and see for yourself. Lady Gaga's copying is blatant.

It never matters about who is the original in business, it always matters as who is seen more and gets more noticed.

Look at Beyonce, Madonna, etc. They all copy or steal from someone, but no one cares because they are the ones who get the publicity and coverage. THEY make people care about what they are doing.

If Lady Gaga is copying off this chick, well hey Lady Gaga is getting the publicity, the fame the exposure, Roislin, I've never heard of before this thread, so once again the originator does not matter.

It's how the world works.

Quality over quantity. That's why Roisin wins imo.

From what I've heard of Goldfrapp and Roisin lately, they seem to be going for an 80s electro-pop sound.

Uhh business cares about numbers of albums sold. And that was the point I was making, it doesn't matter who is the originator, it matters who gets it out there and can sell the image, aka business.

Lady Gaga has great music, I definitely enjoy her music, dance pop has always been a favorite of mine. I have never heard of Roisin, seriously never.

But I will check out other songs she has because this one here is hardly anything to be excited about.

Her live performances are always great, has a great voice!
And very original, copying styles was never so obvious in music like this with her and Gaga.

I honestly don't see how you could consider yourself a fan of dance pop and not know who Roisin Murphy is.

She had hits since the mid-90s with Moloko.
Sing It Back is a house anthem.

Then she had a hits with the Chocolate Puma Remix of Never Enough with Boris Dlugosch.
Her eclectic stylings in fashion match her sound in eletronic with songs like Night Of The Dancing Flame, Let Me Know, Ruby Blue, Ramalama, If We're In Love, Overpowered.

Uhh its simple, I didn't pay attention to music much in the 90's, and I only go back to listen to a few artists in the 80's and 90's if I like them. I don't listen to a whole range of the 90's, I was not even a teenager yet then, so I wouldn't know of any Roisin.

And I said I do like Dance-Pop... but I focus more on Dance in general. But I really have never heard of Roisin, not once in my life. Maybe I heard a song or two of hers and didn't know it was her, but as for her name, I can never recall it.

Like I said, I will listen to some of her music, everyone is saying it is better than others so I will give it a shot, I am not against that. But the song posted in this thread was pretty damn bad, I wouldn't give that song a second shot.

I was trying to find links of footage from the American "So You Think You Can Dance" series from a couple of years back. There was a couple who danced to Ruby Blue and also a group dance they did to Ramalama - both songs from Roisin's 1st Solo CD. The dances were really great. Maybe someone else remembers them?

i ADORE Rocket but that track is getting alot of mixed reviews between the fans  i don't know why people after all these years keep expecting this or that type of music when it comes to Goldfrapp , Roisin or Bjork , these are 3 artists that will never do the same ish album after album

oh and for the people who don't know Roisin and are looking for her stuff, stay away from Ruby Blue because that's an album that can be very difficult to get in  it's really Roisin going all the way to the left field , it's edgy , it's brilliant but not the easiest album to start

Hmmm. Wasn't even aware that comparisons were being drawn between the two, though I am laughing at that link with the side-by-side photo comparisons and the attempts to brush them off as mere 'coincidence'.

I remember Moloko and Roisin Murphy - liked a few of their songs but was never in love with them. Same for Gaga, though to be fair, I think Murphy has more genuine edge whereas Gaga to me is straight up bubble-gum pop draped in 'edgy' art-pop trappings. Of the two I think Murphy is the more attractive and musically adventurous, and she's a little more tasteful. Roisin is also the superior vocalist. I agree with whoever said that both of them try extremely hard to be quirky and it borders on being forced.

I'm kind of amused though by the whole Gaga schtick seeing that Grace Jones was wearing cowls, shoulder pads, big sunglasses and bathing suits with fishnet stockings quite some time ago. The difference for me was that Grace really DID create an lasting iconography that bought art and fashion into pop and she exuded theatricality. (Bjork is the other modern 'pop' artist for me, that pulled off fashion art with equivalent levels of genuine weirdness.) Sure, you had Madonna came along jumping every bandwagon known to man and commercialising everything in her path; Kylie had her big makeover and there was the lesser-known Roisin. Now it's Gaga's turn I suppose, with Rhianna jumping into the fray as well. Nothing wrong with any of that.

My only problem is when Gaga's fans try to behave as if she's stunningly original or pioneer, when it's already been done, and demonstrate little awareness of pre-existing imagery.
