Oct 3rd, 2002, 12:38 PM
Dementieva need a coach very badly. She might have the worst serve in women's tennis. And to get dominated by Bovina, a younger and bigger compatriot in their hometown is not what I was looking for.

I hope Dementieva atleast shows some guts and doesn't get crushed in Moscow. That would be terrible!

Oct 3rd, 2002, 12:39 PM
Go Bovina !!!

Oct 3rd, 2002, 12:39 PM
its 0% cos when she misses her 1st it more than not ends up being a DF

Oct 3rd, 2002, 12:40 PM
Bovina 6:1 1:1

Oct 3rd, 2002, 12:40 PM
6-1 1-1

Oct 3rd, 2002, 12:42 PM
Elena D looks more like the older self at the moment. Maybe not everything is lost. The 1st set was pathetic. Her fans must have been watching it with bleeding hearts

What an awful loss for Dementieva! She is just clueless!

Per, not only does Elena have the worst serve in women's tennis, she might just have the worst backhand, too. And how can she become a top player with 2 such glaring weaknesses?

What makes this loss even worse is that Dementieva after getting humiliated in the first set by Bovina, won the second set 6-4 and took a 2-0 third set lead before falling apart again.

I don't know about Elena D. at this point. She seems stuck with playing mediorce tennis. And all those double faults! OMG! It just gets worse and worse!

Udachi Bovina! :bounce: Win the next round, too.

Oct 3rd, 2002, 02:31 PM
sounds like a horrible match :(

Oct 3rd, 2002, 02:47 PM
Disater!17DF's!If Elena D did not served so bad,she would not have lost. She lost much points. It's a pity to see a great player regressing.

Although it is too bad EB had to play ED, this was an important win for her.

How often do we see a Russian player take a big step forward in her career, only to take two steps back the following month? That is why they get to a certain level and then get stuck.

Elena B. needs to break this pattern by moving continually forward. It was important to come to Moscow and show the home crowd the new Elena B. And to KEEP MOVING FORWARD.

Well done, Elena B! You did not play the best mrach of your career, but you came through at crunch-time. And that's what counts.

Oct 3rd, 2002, 06:58 PM
I asked Alyona if she`s considering taking up with another coach and she said she is quite satisfied with Pashkov :( She didn`t confirm the rumours of teaming up with Karina Habsudova`s coach.

Oct 3rd, 2002, 07:11 PM
satisfied ????

he is never there
she needs a real coach, one will committ full time to travelling with her

the cat
Oct 3rd, 2002, 07:18 PM
Well said Janie. In my frustration about Dementieva's struggles, I forgot about Bovina's progression forward. She is coming. But let's see if she can keep improving next year. Or will she fall back like the other Russian women have?

Eggy, it's a shame. Elena seems clueless as to her situation. I've said for a couple of years that she needs a full time travelling coach with her. If she hasn't broken her terrible pattern of serving double faults and making too many unforced errors by now, why should we believe she's going to make improvements in the future? She won't make the committment to win. So why should I expect her to?

auntie janie
Oct 3rd, 2002, 11:17 PM
cat, I think you should stop expecting Elena to stop being Elena. Appreciate her for who she is, and accept her limitations. Then you can enjoy it when she does perform well. :)

As for Elena Bovina, I expect her keep improving, but to hit a ranking plateau next year, I think at the mid-teens level. Then she will have to improve another notch to enter the super-competitive top 10.

damn it again. when oh when is the tall blonde fox ever
going to win something again. this is painfull to hear and read.
come on elena d lets get some help. PLEASE. i am still one of
your biggest fans in the united states. :)

Oct 4th, 2002, 12:06 AM
Jaine you said it perfectly about Elena B. As for D., she has a good backhand, (not the worst in women's tennis  ) but she DOES have the worst serve in women's tennis. Kapros has heavy slice on her serve, so it stays pretty low (thus the topspin allergic players can't swing away freely like on Dementieva's), and she doesn't double fault. Elena D. needs to stop double faulting, and gain more confidence. But her groundies are fine. (Anna is still better though)

Oct 4th, 2002, 03:33 AM
Yes. Elena D needs some HARD work on her serve. She just will not get anywhere giving away free points like that (4 serve games worth!). Her movement and shot making on the run are excellent and often awesome, but being handicapped on serve is too much for her to overcome.

As for Elena B. She's doing well, but she too needs to improve her serve. She should be getting a lot more free points from it.

I don't think either in their present nerve-filled state hold up much threat to the dreaded Lindsay!
