Caro is currently France's number 2 in the 1993 generation, far away from Kristina obviously. Still, her results are good enough to follow them on a thread. She is born in October, which could explain why her talent has been overshadowed by girls born earlier in the year.

She plays with a double-handed backhand and her best shot is definitely her serve. Her forehand has lots of firepower as well. She still has to work on her return and movement, I'd say.

She is 64th on the junior ranking (but won her first Grade 1 tournament beating Allgurin, Mestach and Cepede). On the pro tour, she is part of top 700 thanks to good showings in 25k. She's slightly overanked I think but she does have interesting wins over Riner, Dabija and Kondratieva.

Allez Caro :)

Today Caroline scored another win in a 25k in Belfort where she has a WC into the main draw.

Defeated Laurendon 63 12ret. on a thigh injury. Anaïs made many mistakes but Caroline stayed very solid all the way. :yeah:

She faces Claudia Giovine now who is a very hard hitter. It will be difficult I think but if she keeps on serving as well as today, she can make it tough for the Italian!

good thread Antoine;)

yes I think caroline is a good prospect for the future. She has to improve in many part of her game but she seems to have a good spirit and expectations.
Important to fix some goals.Wish her the best in her progression:)

caroline lost 4-6 3-6

It was kinda bad match from her against brainless ballbasher giovine.
Caro made many ues and was overpowered by the italian.Made many ues too.
She must make some muscles imo,she looks too skinny. She must also improve on tactics.
She s perhaps playing too "junior" right now.

Caroline backing up a solid indoor tour by reaching QF in Thailand and now she is in the final of a Grade 1 junior tournament in Malaysia! :D
She defeated again some young girls on the rise like Zheng Saisai 26 63 63 and Tamara Curovic 63 63. She faces Australian Open's unexpected semi-finalist Tang Hao-Chen. She should be close to top 30 now!
French junior tennis is quite promising this year with Caro and Lou :)

Caro tried her best and lost 36 76(0) 63! So close to get another title :awww:

Still she can be very proud of her week! She's definitely been the best 1993 player after Kristina since Amandine's injury. There's a lot to improve to clean her game but she has very nicely confirmed the breakthrough she had last year.

Allez Caro! Good luck in Philippines!

Great win! I was really confident that she could pull that upset but still, Im really stunned she actually made it! Good to see a French girl holding her nerves till the victory. She has been improving month after month (apart of those repetitive losses to Ons :p).

http://www.heraldtribune.com/article/20110416/ARTICLE/110419582/-1/sports?Title=All-French-final-at-The-Oaks

OSPREY — Unable to contain her excitement, Caroline Garcia's animated eyes widened with delight as she spoke about what took place Saturday at The Oaks Country Club.

Her exuberance had little to do with the fact that the 17-year old tennis player had just rolled into the championship match of the 2011 Oaks Club $25,000 Pro Circuit Event being played here.

"I saw an alligator, right over there," Garcia said, pointing toward a nearby pond. "He is there now.

"I saw a chipmunk, too. And some snakes."

Sweet innocence.

Moments before, Garcia had put the finishing touches on a satisfying 6-0, 6-4 semifinal win over Chichi Scholl, but it was her brush with Florida wildlife that seemed to most excite the teenager from Lyon, France.

Parlez-vous francais? Well, it would help because today's final will have a definite French flair when Garcia takes on countrywoman Claire De Gubernatis for the singles title in the USTA pro circuit event.

Garcia reached the title match Saturday by starting quickly, then finishing the match by winning the final two games to send Scholl walking.

De Gubernatis had an even easier path, winning when her injured opponent — Lauren Abanese — retired with an abdominal strain after losing the first set 6-1.

Today's predominately French affair will start at noon with the doubles final as an appetizer, with France's Stephanie Foretz Cacon and American Alexa Glatch taking on Maria Irigoyen of Argentina and Erika Seme of Japan. That will be followed by the main course, with Garcia meeting De Gubernatis.

"She is hitting really hard, and she is fit," De Gubernatis said about Garcia, a player she beat a year ago in a tournament in France. "She doesn't have bad touch either. I will have to make her work a lot."

If there is going to be a French revolution in women's tennis, it might Garcia, the player with the Spanish name, who makes the charge.

Garcia has made giant strides with her game. This year she has reached the semifinals of the Australian Open junior tournament and recently made it to the semifinals of a $25,000 tournament in Alabama.

Her ranking is at a career high 188 and her confidence in soaring.

"I knew if I played my game good, maybe she would not like it," Garcia said about beating Scholl, a player who had no answer for what her opponent brought to the match.

Garcia raced through the first set as Scholl had trouble keeping the ball in play. Garcia then overcame a rash of errors in the middle of the second set before taking the final two games, ending the match with an overhead smash.

"I just want to get better and better. Go step by step," Garcia said. "My game, it is sometimes up and down. I have to be more focused."

This girl is awesome. :wavey:

Caro lost 76 63. Had 3 SPs at 54*.
Cant believe she lost this one. She's still making too many dumb mistakes on important points and get way too easily upset when things dont go the way she wants. It's really a big shame because she was playing far better tennis than Pivovarova.
It will take a bit of time till she really adjusts and makes better decisions when needed - perhaps playing a full time schedule will help. The potential is there.

Poor thing. Got a lot of potential game there. DFs are a worry. And the fact that she lost recently to Pivovarova, Marina, Vesna, De Gubernatis, makes me think she can play on vastly different levels on different days. Still, more ability than I've seen for a while. She could go somewhere, so long as she doesn't let this get into her head, as she did today (well, she completely lost it mentally after about 4-5).

Lost last 11 games- fought for about 5 or 6 of them.

I have to say it... she really impressed me.

I already saw her play, and I thought she could do something big. With that said, before the match begun I really thought she wouldn't win but could, maybe, take a set.

Then the match begun, I didn't really believed in her odds to win, then game, after game, I saw the first set in her pocket, I started to believe in it, Caroline made me believe in her, at each point I became more and more convinced. I thought, well, it's sharapova she's going to react... wait for it but again a double break... at this point (4-1, second set) I really was convinced caroline could do it... I was a 100% behind her, she really was extremly convincing... but there it is... the experience spoke, sharapova fought like a devil as usual, she came back from nowhere and finally won it.

Like I said, I already saw her play and I was very pleased to see what she can do on a court, today confirmed that a billion times. Of course, had she had a little more experience she could have won it but there it is, she's only 17, it was her first RG, her 2nd GS. Anyway, I'm already very proud of her. She definitly won a fan here. That was a really big beautiful match to watch.

I hope she won't pull a cornet here and continue to improve herself.

Whatever the future, whatever the score today, thank you miss garcia for today's entertainment, it was so refreshing to see that.

I must finally add, I love her attitude so ambitious, so sincere and fresh, keep that at heart dear !

PEERS, Sally AUS vs. GARCIA, Caroline FRA
LINETTE, Magda POL vs. VOSKOBOEVA, Galina KAZ

tiptop posted some reports of her matches in GM. :)

First Round

First off, Garcia tosses the ball so high, easily seven feat above her head and she can generate quite a bit of speed on her serve, both through the middle and out wide. In the first set she really blitzed her opponent and her groundstrokes looked like lasers for most of the time. Peers is not a bad player but she was just overwhelmed by Garcia's power and precision.

In the second Peers got more balls in play and started hitting deeper while the French woman missed a few shots she didn't miss in the first set. Garcia's movement to the backhand was somewhat mediocre in the second set and this is where most of the errors came from. Still in the end, when Peers had a setpoint in the tiebreaker of the the second, Garcia held her nerves and finished the match with a couple of nice winners. I don't know if she really is a future number one like Murray said in Paris, but she is one of the two most impressive young players (the other being Pavlyuchenkova) I have seen in Wimbledon qualifying over the last five years. As I said, the serve can do quite a lot of damage (it's hard and precise and she also hit few nice slices) and she has the ability to flatten out both the backhand and forehand at will. The few volleys and dropshots she hit were good as well. The most impressive thing today though was how she hit the forehand, she has got a very nice body rotation and gets her whole body weight behind the shot. Obviously her opponent wasn't that impressive, so it's though to say how she would fare against a good grasscourt player but she is damn impressive. Next match is against Glatch which should be more competitive than today's affair.

Second Round

Obviously I went to see the Garcia - Glatch match. It was pretty windy today and also drizzling from time to time, so basically the kind of weather we call sommer here in London ;-). The first thing I noticed was that Garcia had problems with her backhand when the two were hitting before the match, she either hit them too long (and by that I mean a few feets too long) or hit them into the net. I thought that maybe her concentration level was not there yet but actually this was just a sign of things to come.

Because of the wind Garcia was struggling with her high ball toss and her first serve percentage was lower than yesterday. Glatch was really smart though just blocking or slicing the serve back and not giving Garcia any pace to work with. More important though was how Glatch used her slice. As soon as she got the chance she just sliced it to Garcia's backhand. The French woman didn't know what to do and it took her 8,9 games before she realised that you don't have to hit winners of a low slice. Until then she had already made 15- 20 backhand errors and when she finally started mixing it up it was too late to get back into the match. Equally important as the slice was Glatch's serve, she mostly served to the vulnerable backhand, drawing lots of errors and short balls. She also has a decent kicker, obviously a nice shot to have in your repertoire. Both hit some nice volleys but overall Glatch was just more comfortable at the net.

Garcia is raw and it will probably take some time and patience before she can produce the kind of tennis she showed against Sharapova and yesterday in the first set but I think she will eventually get there. What I really liked that in contrast to 80 per cent of the other players she didn't blame or yell at the linespeople or umpire. As someone who started following and playing tennis in the late 80s I love Glatch's game and I really hope she succeeds but she'll probably have to settle for a Vinci like career (which is obviously not bad thing). She plays Voskoboeva in then next round and from what I have seen (only five minutes) and heard the Russian is in good form. I'd say it's a 50/50 match.

Caro won 62 67 64.
She was about to win it pretty easily but the Estonian girl eventually broke Caro's serve at 13 second set and since then, the match was much more contested. She will face in QF Gonzalez. It shouldn't be too difficult.
I hope she will take a break after Wimbledon. I think she needs a bit of time to handle her new status.

she lost 6-7 6-3 1-6

Caroline is better player than that kromacheva girl but she lost that match mentally. She lost her focus at the start of third set while she had the momentum to lose her serve , had 3 bps to tie at 2-2 in that last set but failed. I think this "mental side" of her game has to be improved. When she leads a game she has to hold it and be more nasty in a positive way. she totally gave up then:o
I think she ll learn from pro matchs in the itf circuit.
She was on the entry list of 50K Contrexville starting 11/07 but she withdrew...

Getting To Know... Caroline Garcia (http://www.wtatennis.com/page/GettingToKnow/Read/0,,12781~2389515,00.html)

Caroline Garcia almost caused the upset of the French Open when, as a wildcard ranked No.188, she led Maria Sharapova by a set and 4-1 in the second round. While victory was not to be, few were left with any doubts as to the 17-year-old's prospects. Andy Murray even tweeted that, as far as he was concerned, she was headed for No.1.

We caught up with Caroline at the AEGON Classic in Birmingham.

Tell us about your family.
CG: I'm an only child. My parents' names are Paul Louis and Mary Lene; they own a real estate agency, although my father travels with me most of the time.

How did you get into tennis?
CG: I started when I was five years old. My parents played socially. I played tennis, basketball and other sports but I preferred tennis - I was better at it! So I started playing tournaments in my region and then Europe and now I am playing tournaments on the WTA and Grand Slams.

What are the strengths of your game?
CG: My forehand and serve.

If you could steal a hot from another player, what would it be?
CG: The mentality of Nadal.

Did you have a tennis idol when you were growing up?
CG: No, not really.

You hail from Saint-Germain-en-Laye - the same town as Amélie Mauresmo. Do you think that could be a good omen for your career?
CG: Yeah, maybe! If I could have a career like hers' I'd be very happy.

What's your coaching situation at the moment?
CG: Since March this year I've been coached by Frederic Fontag. We're working on lots of small things.

Looking back, how do you feel about your match with Sharapova?
CG: Just after the match I was a little disappointed, because I was 4-1 up in the second set. But I'm happy that I was able to go on the court and start like it was just a normal match. So I think I can take a lot of experience from this. Next time, when I have to finish off a big match like that, it's probably going to be different outcome.

Was it hard to then go back and play the junior event?
CG: It wasn't as difficult as it might have been. Maybe if I had to go and play a 10K event it would have been different, but Grand Slam juniors are very important, so I just focused on my game and the tournament.

How do you feel about grass as a surface? Do you have much experience of it?
CG: I've played one match last year, in the Wimbledon juniors. It's different to clay, of course. You have to play your own game: don't think a lot, just play. [Ed.'s note: Garcia has since reached the semis of junior Wimbledon].

Best tennis memory to date?
CG: For me, all of this year has been a very good memory. From winning my first WTA main draw match at the Australian Open, to playing on the Philippe Chatrier court at Roland Garros for the first time. All victories are difficult, so every win brings a great feeling.

What do you like to do off court, to relax?
CG: In tennis you are not always with your family, so I like to spend time with them, just eat meals with them, pass time with them. I also like to read and go to the cinema.

How far did you go in your education?
CG: I'm still finishing high school by correspondence.

Favorite subject?
CG: I like English.

If you had to describe yourself in one word, what would you say?
CG: That's difficult. Unique.

What quality do you most admire in other people?
CG: I admire people who work hard.

What's your ideal holiday?
CG: Somewhere where there is a lot of sun and it is calm.

If you were stuck on a desert island and allowed one luxury, what would you have with you?
CG: Something like an iPad...

What non-tennis skill would you like to have?
CG: I'd like to be able to act.

What sort of goals have you set, in terms of tennis?
CG: My goal for this year is to be Top 100, and my dream is to be No.1 and win a Grand Slam title… hopefully not just one!

not a good loss today but she's still very perfectible. Dont find her choice of playing in Asia that lame. At least she's playing and winning matchs , gaining points and get ready for the US Open.

I thought she could put a win in a tough 3 sets match but she couldnt. Playing Beijing next week will push her to play better than that.

she's still has to work to improve her weaknesses. She has potential but step after step. She's not ready yet. But still think it was the right decision to go and play in Asia instand of in the USA. According to Murray played in Kazan, the future first racket of the world

In just six weeks ago the name of one of the participants Tatatrstan Open loudly sounded the whole tennis world. And, so loudly that the world tennis racket fourth Scot Andy Murray said that for his age, this girl works just fine on the court and in the future will be the number one player in the world. Note, not "could be" and "will"!

Moreover, said this is not some expansive Latinos, and the most that either there is a cold-blooded Anglo-Saxon. The reason for the statement it was the game with Maria Sharapova at Roland Garros. Carolyn Garcia, but we are talking about it occupies at that moment in the WTA Tour ranking 188th place and received a wild card into the main draw, conducted - 6:3, 4:1, and then lost 11 games in a row. Sharapova is on this account is not so clearly expressed: "Time will tell." And here it is "the future first racket of the world" according to the current fourth racket of the world is sitting in a restaurant Tennis Academy and answers the questions of your correspondent. Meet Carolyn Garcia, France, 17 years old.

- Bonjour Mademoiselle Caroline.

- Bonjour.

- That's all I have left in memory of school French lessons.

- O-y (laughs).

- Or you have to shake Buenos Dias, in Spanish. Judging by your blood you are the representative of the Spanish nation.

- (Laughs even before the transfer). - I speak Spanish, but not as good as the French and English. I'm French by nationality, and the name of my grandfather, a Spaniard.

- The Spaniards brought in, and bring glory to France. If you recall, at the World Cup in 1998 in the French team had three Spanish nationality - Fabien Barthez, Lizarazu Bikshante and Robert Pires. From love of the Spaniards to France?

Carolyn: - I do not know, but I will say that the Spaniards in France lacking.

Here in the case enters its coach: - The fact that many Spaniards had settled in France, escaped from his native country during the civil war in the 30s of last century. In addition, a large number of lines is not Spanish, and Spanish-speaking, came to France from Africa.

- Carolyn, and in what city you live in?

- In Lyon.

- In the Lee-on-no??

- Yeah! (Leaping laughing). I understand your reaction. Yes, in the same city whose football team "Olympic" has fallen into your rivals, "Ruby" in the qualifying round of the Champions League. Soon there will come a few dozen of my fellow countrymen.

- Said that they will appear in Kazan on August 24, the day of the return match of the Champions League. And while they did not come, I will ask representatives of the charming town of Lyon, - what a team her?

- I can not keep a close watch for football, because I have a lot of traveling for tournaments. Let me just say that for a long time our team was the strongest in France (seven consecutive years, winning the championship this is not the weakest in football terms, the country. - Comm. Auth.) Constantly playing in the Champions League. But the last couple of years have been a little bit to take their positions.

- After a football and geographical digression, let's go directly to the heroine of our interview with Carolyn Garcia. The name, which sounded loud in that year, after a meeting with Maria Sharapova.

- Oh, I'm always asked about this match. You understand that the game was very responsible to me as I stood at the main court of the country, then I strongly supported the French fans. I gave all my strength in the confrontation with Sharapova showed all my skills. Very difficult it was to finish the match, almost no strength left. I hope that from that time, my game will improve, and I'll make progress.

- Andy Murray after that game said that the court was the first racket of the future of the world. When you rob justify its flattering outlook?

- Oh. I work very hard, because the climb to the top is very difficult. Achieve the same goal the dream of many. But I'm playing tennis in order to realize his dream - to become the number one player in the world. True, this is a very long way to go to that game for the match, step by step.

- Did a similar step to conquer the top of today's victorious match against Christina Kuchovoy from Slovakia?

- I hope so. This was my first game in Tatarstan Open, I at first was inferior - 1:2, committed many mistakes, but then I was able to concentrate on my game. I did it, in the end of the match my opponent was already beginning to make many mistakes.

- What do you know about his future opponent for an eighth?

- Tennis player from Holland Raychel Hogenkamp. It is 268th in the rankings. That is all I know about it, because before we had not played.

- I read that one of the Grand Slams, we have replaced compatriot Virginia Razzano, who had a Wild Card. Starring two female players from the main grid, Razzano placed in the main draw, but you instead get Wild Card. The issue of such a plan - a powerful effect on the nerves of the fact that you do not know, will play in the tournament, no?

- It happened at the Australien Open. Frankly, I'm on the subject was not nervous. At the tournament I played in junior competitions, and asked the Wild Card Tournament in adults. Next to me there was nothing depended. Why be nervous about the fact that you do not depend on.

- Kazan on the tennis map of the world - a new point. Do you know any of our players?

- Ann Smolin. I know her from previous tournaments. Now she told me that earlier stood for Moscow, and now lives there, but it is native to the city of Kazan.

- A member of the current Tatatrstan Open your friends a lot?

- Yes. This is Daria Gavrilova, Julia Putintseva, which played a lot in junior tournaments. I know back in the spring Dolonts, which just lost Putintseva. However, the faces I know a lot, just can not remember the name.

- Earlier this year, was held in Moscow Fed Cup match in which France defeated Russia almost. Leading by a score - 2-0, missed a French victory at the finish line - 2:3. What they needed to win, or what? Maybe you?

- (Laughs). Yes, I remember that game. I was at the time at competitions in Australia and watched clips of the game on TV. Russians initially were favorites in this confrontation, and, thanks to the skill of their players, and the fact that playing at home. What was lacking French women? Maybe luck? I would hope that we will have a chance to take revenge.

- Tell me, Carolyn, are you?

- Yes, at the university.

- Students have the right to speak at the university. Do you have an interest to play at the Universiade competitions?

- Now I, of course, do not plan to play at the Universiade in China, because it'll go to the American Open. And about Kazan? You know, to her two more years, so I still have time to think about the speeches here.

- Having been here for the first time, you would want to come back for the next competition?

- Why not? Here are very friendly people, at least, those I met. Try to talk to me in English, seeing that I do not know Russian. Here is a great tennis sports complex, with lots of tennis.

It is possible to eat and food is very good. We have a good hotel in the center, which is easily accessible. So I can not to complain about my stay here.

- Is even on hot weather there are no claims?

- The weather? Believe me, it is quite comfortable. So I just played in Fergana, Uzbekistan. It was very, very, very hot!

Thanks for the interview. :) Interesting that she's friends with Putintseva who's probably the biggest brat in tennis history. :o

By the way will Caroline get the FFT US Open WC or will it go to someone else? Rezai, Iryna Bremond or Mladenovic? I would suspect Rezai but doesn't she have a bad history with the FFT?

It could be a bad transcription from what she originally said. From what she mentions about Dolonts, I think she was rather talking about the girls she knows here.

I don't think Caro will be awarded the WC. Brémond looks like the most obvious choice to me, but who knows. Aravane's relations with FFT have improved a lot, especially since she has been part of the Fed Cup team. She could get it, though playing qualies looks like a better solution to me. Same goes for Caroline. She's good enough to be able to make it without WC and it would only help her ranking.

disappointing result for Caro against a younger player.

She has some problems to give her best in finale. Perhaps a bit too tense today cause she was clearly the favourite to win. Still a little bit "junior" in her mind. Has to work on that.

But well good preparation she made for US Open qualies which start on 24.

I'm disappointed but not too disappointed. A final of a $50,000+H is a great result and the 64 ranking points will give her a great boost! I'm not really surprised by the result Putintseva is really good.

If Caro can have more weeks like this she'll be close to the Top 100 by the end of the year. :)
