kinda funny how i've made 3 russians' AO threads  i know dina's still in sydney (she's into the semis! woohoo). she's still playing dubs with maria right? they didnt lose? i didnt get a chance to watch today. (im a bit down that maria and dina are both still in sydney as i really wanted to see them tomorrow at the AO qaulies).

lets hope dina goes one step further in 2 weeks time and makes the final (important since pova, justine and kim are back) and wins this damn tourney! :D

No, she's down a set and a break in the quarters as we speak.

No, they got completely demolished in the first round.

Expecting or even hoping for her to win AO is about 18000 steps too far at this point, IMO.

Watch live streaming of the Australian Open 2010 official draw on Friday 15 January at 10:40 am direct from Melbourne Park.

Tennis legend and former world No. 1 John McEnroe and former French Open champion Ana Ivanovic will be involved in the draw ceremony.

The women’s draw will be done first starting with the random placement of the non-seeded female players, followed by the placement of the seeded female players. The men’s draw will follow with the same format.

It should start in a little over one and a half hours.

From GM

Safina vs Rybarikova 1st round, seed to face Bondarenko K (vs Olaru) in 3rd, Cibulkova possible in 4th

C. Drone
Jan 15th, 2010, 12:35 AM
^^ Cibulkova 4th? in 4th round the highest seed she'll face is 13-16th (Stosur, Sharapova, Kim, Na Li)...

this live draw is a big fail...

vanúss
Jan 15th, 2010, 12:44 AM
I though Sharapova was in the other half ?

I should have waited until this morning to have the full draw ready for me , it's too complicated right now

~Kiera~
Jan 15th, 2010, 12:44 AM
Posters seem to think the draw is like this:

Serena, Venus - top half
Henin, Clijsters, Safina, Demented - bottom half

It could be totally wrong though :o

vanúss
Jan 15th, 2010, 12:46 AM
Yeah and it looks like Henin/Clijsters/Dementieva are even in the same quarter ! With a 2nd round clash between Lena.D and Henin !

i don't think both russian big babe will reach the 4th round. (yes Domi, i've pointed to you ;) )
1st round should be no problem, love Magda, but she isn't the type who makes trouble for Dinara i think. Of course if dinara has any form..
2nd neither should be a problem if the qualifier not Wick-Mayer, but the 3rd with K-Bond is not a pushover. longer i can't see.

Kirilenki, Bacsinszky, Cibulkova... not so easy. i think they won't beat Masha... but they can tire her out, if she's not playing so well.

lower half is much harder.
Demented-Juju-Dokic-Kleybs-Kim-Pennetta-Petrova-Rezai-Pavs-Kuz in one quarter...
bottom quarter not so crowded... only JJ, Marion, Masha and Dindin.

I know, I was thinking about this. It's going to be a pain in the ass since you can't come over. So our options are getting them so drunk that they pass out in the hotel room or coming to my office or mom's office to watch. Bars will be filled with football.

It's going to take some strategery. Getting people really drunk sounds like a decent option. And honestly, wouldn't take much effort. (Or you could get a catsitter and fumigate your apartment. Several times.)

(Hmmm, I just realized that that makes it sound like Lexi's apartment might be like something you see on Hoarders. It's not. I'm just super allergic to cats. )

i love how official stats are a misleading.

match stats from outside courts: Parmentier-Baltacha (http://www.australianopen.com/en_AU/scores/stats/day6/2162ms.html) or Bondarenko-Olaru (http://www.australianopen.com/en_AU/scores/stats/day6/2161ms.html)
there is no winners/UE scoring from outside courts, but Doublefaults are counted as UE, but TWICE. You can see the stats, both girl has 3 DF and they counted 6 UE for both. Or Olaru has 7DF=14UE... interesting, i would say... the same with aces too i think, btw, but they do not count that.

so, Dina's match (http://www.australianopen.com/en_AU/scores/stats/day6/2164ms.html). It's a main court so they have real winner/UE count too + aces/DF.
official stat is she had 25 winners/39 UE.
If we use 1DF=1UE and 1ace=1winner formula its more like 23 winner/30 UE.
But without the 2 aces(4 winners) and 9 DF(18UE) its more like 21 winner/21 UE.
funny stats, right? maybe i should watch the match again and do my own scoring where i decide what is winner or UE?

match stats from outside courts: Parmentier-Baltacha (http://www.australianopen.com/en_AU/scores/stats/day6/2162ms.html) or Bondarenko-Olaru (http://www.australianopen.com/en_AU/scores/stats/day6/2161ms.html)
there is no winners/UE scoring from outside courts, but Doublefaults are counted as UE, but TWICE.

Yeah the stats from outside courts are confusing, but I think those from TV covered courts are right.
And yeah without the doublefaults the winners/UE rate looks much better

Hisense Arena 11:00 Start

1. Caroline Wozniacki(DEN)[4] - Aleksandra Wozniak(CAN)
2. Andy Roddick(USA)[7] - Thomaz Bellucci(BRA)
3. Barbora Zahlavova Strycova(CZE) - Dinara Safina(RUS)[2]

So I think she will play around 14:30/15:00 local time

Yeah, and JMDP's match is right after Dina's;)

Good news is Zahlavova Strycova had the longest match in women's AO history against Kulikova in R1 and should be worn down a bit. And let's face it, Dina needs the most help she can get to prevent her going 0-5 again.

okay, fair point. But the chinese girl in Beijing didn't played a 4 hour match and Strycova is not the home crowd favorite in Melbourne.
i just try to make some realistic/objective approach. (and i'm tired to think she's gonna lose a qualifier any day. of course I still think it's too soon to play tournaments, but i can't stop her.)

Yeah, I mean, I'm just going to go for it. I've got nothing to lose. I'm very excited about it. I don't think she's actually played yet. It looks like it probably will be Dinara. I have a day off tomorrow, recharge, then get going again on Friday. So, yeah.

one word: clichÚ

Luczak had nothing to lose, until he had to serve out the first set.
Andreev had nothing to lose, until he choked the 3rd set and then got bageled.
Blake had nothing to lose... and he lost.
and this is just the past 2 days.

C. Drone
Jan 20th, 2010, 04:11 PM
why? she does serve out many sets and matches if she has no body problems. i do not think this is a big problem.

and coin toss - first serving problem... if she can hold her own, she has 5-4 at the end of the set, and the opponent has to serve to stay in the set. Or if her opponent broke her and leads 5-4, the opponent is who have to serve it out. Either way, the pressure is on the opponent shoulder.
The problem is, she is really sleepy/rusty in the first couple of games, and she can lose first games easily. adrenaline needs time to flow...

kinda boring, but the bastard knows every trick:
When we warmed up in the morning, Maria Sharapova was next to the court and in her routines with her team. When I passed her I smelled a strong smell of cream that warms up muscles and that indicates normally you are hurting a little. So in my prep talk I told Maria that she should realize Sharapova could be hurt and she had to continue to make her run as much as she could and never give up.

#1 possibilities:
Serena has to lose 4th round and Dina needs Final.
Serena has to lose in the QF or SF, and Dina needs the title.

#2 possibilities:
right now, Caro and Sveta needs at least SF to overtake her.
if Dina makes QF, Caro and Sveta needs Final.
if Dina makes SF, Caro and Sveta needs the title.
if Dina makes Final, Caro needs the title.

Sammy is now virtually #10. Bepa, Wickmayer, Na Li and Franny needs SF at least to overtake her.

That schedule is ridiculous. The 4th match on court and not before 3pm? There are three matches before it, one of which is a men's match. No way are they taking 4 hours. The JMDP/Cilic match could be more than that alone. :)

I'm just bitching because it means I have no idea when I can sleep. I'll have to keep getting up.

that's why they may move this match to RLA. ;)

In that case it wouldn't be so cool after all ! I want her to play when everyone is still asleep , i'm giving my bedroom to my sister who's staying over this week end , she wanted to watch the match but so far she did not see her play so no way she'll start now :o

If DelPo plays the way he did during his last match then Marin can probably take him out in 3 sets, but the two time they have met Marin won the first set before DelPo just rolled right over him to win it in four sets.

Yeah, but Jie Zheng isn't just any unseeded player. I think most people would say she's a better player than A-Bond, and she's been in the top 20.

well done Nads. now another 2 tall guys :help:

"interesting fact": the average player on Federer's side is 185cm (6'2" ?), but on Nadals side is 196cm (6'6" ?). The difference between the tallest(Ivo) and shortest(Kolya) is 30cm (1').

Q. How does this feel compared to last year when you had the back injury?

DINARA SAFINA: Exactly the same like in Doha. Exactly the same. I just cannot move anywhere.

I mean, the physio asked me to lie on the table. I said, I cannot lie. I cannot make any movement. Whatever I try to move, it hurts terribly.

it was only then til i wonder over to the next court i saw dina packing up to leave. i didnt take any pics coz she was leaving but i was trying to wedge my way thro the crowd to get to the front. she didnt sign any autographs but she threw a couple of tennis balls in the direction of the crowds. she didnt throw them very far  i was calling out to her, waving my russian flag, hoping to get her attention - but she had already turned her bak and walked off court with Z :sobbing:
