I thought it would be easier if we have a specific thread to follow Leni all year long as I seen last year most of the threads of her in tournaments didn't reach a lot of pages and also because since this is now a general forum for all greek players,it's also easier to find all the information about Leni in tournaments in one place, not in the middle of threads dedicated to other greek girls.Do you think it's a good idea? Another thing we can do is to ask moderator Sonfo to have this thread marked as important so we can find it also more easily.

So let's hope for a good 2010 for Eleni and if I read correctly Eleni will start this season in Auckland.Only a few days away now :D ;)

I think it's a good idea :)
We should make all of Eleni's threads important, and have all the rest of the Greek girls' threads in the rest of the forum. We don't need to have threads from old tournaments made sticky, but all current threads :p

Also, what tournaments do you guys think Eleni will play in 2010? After Auckland, it's Australian Open qualifying, and then? I hope she goes back to Midland and thennn plays some ITF and WTA tournaments in the U.S. until Charleston. I think it's a good plan, like she can play ITF's as well as maybe some WTA hard court tournaments like Memphis, Monterrey, Indian Wells and Miami, and then start playing on clay again in Ponte Vedra Beach and Charleston, then Fed Cup in Armenia (on clay), and then some clay court tournaments leading up two Roland Garros (small WTA events like Fes, Estoril, Strasbourg and some large ITF's maybe). And then some Wimbledon lead-ups, and then she should see where her ranking is at during the Spring clay court season so she can plan out the rest of her year. I think her goal should be to end in the top 50.

Sounds like a good plan.I was hoping she would post some of her plans on her website, maybe she'll do it soon...

As for making all of Eleni's threads importants,I think it's brilliant idea :D Let's see what the rest of fans think first.

She is playing Auckland qualies, this is her part of the draw:

[1] Barrois vs. Ferguson
Schruff vs. Arvidsson
Zec Peskiric vs. Granville

No exceptations for the beginning of the year, just let's see what is happening...

I like both of them and they both need to defend points (Eleni has 40 from AO and 78 from Midland. Edina has more to defend, but I like Eleni more :p)
Anyways, GL Eleni! ;)

eleni also made a few comments about her draw and her opponent.

eleni completed 2 days of training in Melburne and she is ready for her matches.
she says that she is very happy for her first match againt Silva from Portugal... she states, that it will be an interesting match/game and that she is familiar with Silva from their last game in Ismaning. She finishes by saying that "she expects/hopes for peoples support"...

Can anyone tell me how i can upload the photos onto this site from my computer?
http://www.tennisnews.gr/images/news_images/Daniilidou/lena_aus_1.jpg

Here is the article
A windy day in Melbourne played into the hands of talented Greek Eleni Daniilidou as she beat Neuza Silva from Portugal 6-1 6-3 in the opening round of Australian Open qualifying.
*
From the outset of the match she was in control, enduring long rallies and relying on her low slice ball to dominate the points.
*
Even in the gusty conditions her serve did not desert her as she raced to a 4-0 lead in the first set.
*
Silva finally managed to break serve but her resurgence was short-lived as the next two games went against the Portuguese and the set belonged to Daniilidou.
*
The second set began with Daniilidou breaking serve but she was immediately broken back by Silva, who then went on to hold serve for the first time in the match.
*
At two-all in the second set, Daniilidou found a new gear with her slice game and began using excellent cross court forehands to wrong footed her opponent.*
*
As Silva served to stay in the match, Daniilidou found herself with two match points. Silva rallied to get back on level terms but it was soon advantage Daniilidou and eventually, on her fourth match point, the Greek took the match 6-1 6-3.
*
Daniilidou always looked the stronger player and will have gained confidence from a relatively comfortable start to her Australian Open campaign.
*
After the match, Daniilidou said she was feeling healthy and happy to be injury free, but was obviously disapointed that her ranking meant she had to take the qualifier route.
*
She said her offensive slice had helped her deal with the windy conditions and she’d have to rely on it again when she faces Yvonne Meusburger of Austria, who prevailed in their previous meeting.

Just got back from the match. Eleni really lifted her game from yesterday and match was a lot closer tan the score indicates. She has really worked on her serve in the off season and hit 5 aces against 0 from her opponent. Eleni seemed a bit disheartened at he end of the first set and appeared to give up. But in the second set they went game for game and Eleni got much of her confidence back. Meusburger managed to break Daniilidou's serve in the 7th game of the second set and was up a set 5-4 and 40-0. Danilidou then once again changed gears and saved all match points before gaining herself a break point. The two had a long rally which ended with Meusburger hitting the ball clearly out, yet there was no overrule from the chair and a devastated Daniilidou found herself back at deuce instead of 5 games all. A disappointed Daniilidou then relinquished the next two points and then the match.

It was terrible to watch her have that match taken from her. The way she was plaing, she definitely would have won the second set and the match if she'd reached 5 all in the second set.

hold on a minute...this is so crazy....so jaz teamed with kanepi (if i am not mistaken) and Eleni couldnt team up with someone else or even kanepi instead of jaz???eleni should be ranked higher than jaz in everything and should be even easier for her to find a partner!!!just jaz playing seems silly! she is not the better of the two so it should be eleni playing and not her!!!!

Daniilidou overcomes illness to post first-round win at Dow Corning Tennis Classic

Eleni Daniilidou didn't feel too steady on her feet, but she sure was steady in her play.

Daniilidou, last year's Dow Corning Tennis Classic runner-up, shook off a slow start -- and an impending illness -- to beat seventh-seeded Monica Niculescu of Romania 6-4, 6-2 in the opening round of singles Tuesday at the Midland Community Tennis Center.

Daniilidou, a 27-year-old from Greece who has been ranked as high as No. 14 in the world, said she woke up feeling sick on Sunday morning and has been feeling poorly ever since.

"It is (tough), but what can you do?" she said, adding that she intends to play through the illness. " ... That's professional sports, you know."

The players traded service breaks and plenty of errors early in the first set before Daniilidou settled in and dominated the final four games, winning 16 of the final 19 points, including the last 12 straight.

Daniilidou, who was breathing heavily after several long rallies, said it was a struggle.

"When it's a long rally, I'm getting a little bit dizzy," she said. "I'm really happy I made it in two sets."

Niculescu held serve to begin the second set, but then Daniilidou got on another roll -- winning 16 of the next 20 points and breaking Niculescu twice to take a 4-1 lead.

The players then traded service breaks to make it 5-2, and Daniilidou prepared to serve for the match.

After going up 40-0, though, Daniilidou had a hard time putting the 22-year-old Romanian away.

Daniilidou committed four unforced errors and four double faults and watched six match points go by the wayside before finally notching the victory after the game's sixth deuce.

"I was up 5-2, and I was just going for it (with big serves). Yes, I had some double faults, but I'm just happy I made it in the end," Daniilidou noted. "It doesn't matter (how you win); I made it in two sets, and that's what is (important)."

Daniilidou, who is currently ranked 161st in the world, said that, all things considered, she was very pleased with her performance.

"It's really the beginning of the year, so the rhythm is still not there. But every match gives me confidence," she said. "The good thing is, I don't feel any pain in my knees, (whereas) I've had injuries (to my knees) before.

"Except for my breathing situation, all the rest feels really good," she added. "It's going to be a tough week, but I'm just (going to) do my best."

Such a dumb move for Eleni not pulling out of the doubles to play at Memphis. I mean she's supposed to be sick hence the atrocious loss to Keothavong, yet she keeps playing for Jaz and misses out on the points she really needs in singles competition.

Since she doesn't seem to worry about losing points in singles,I'm not going to worry about it either.

But I just went on her website and read her latest entry and it sounded so sad. You can sense she is getting so disheartened. Then I had a look at the old articles she has put up in the press section and it is amazing how much of a talent she was, and she also how she looked so good with her long hair, so feminine.
Its so hard for us Eleni fans not to get put off, but we have to know she still has it in her. No one plays like her. And for some reason I cant get it out of my head that one day she will win something big. Wimbledon big.
Its so frustrating that we don't know what can be done. Or maybe she doesn't know. I just hope she sticks with it.

merda style?lol...well its frustrating!!!very frustrating i would say but...u should feel bad or pitty eleni..lately she is making so bad choices!after her big injury she wanted to play olympics etc etc...yea she wanted but sometimes its better to lose a battle and win the war!!!and she preferred to win a battle...which was to play the olympics! why???she should have recovered completely from the injury in order to be fit in the future...not only she didnt do that but her problems continue! i am keep shouting for a better fitness programme and coach and what happened?nothing thats what happened!!!!

the last few years its full of bad decisions!how will she get better if she keeps making/taking the wrong ones?
she flew for 32 hours and instead of concentrating only in singles or even better in doubles she wanted to play both!why?if u take the decision to play both then dont complain about the long flight missy!it was ur decision and of course, once again, it was the wrong one! i think eleni should move to a different place. if she wants jaz with her fine..take her with u! just try new things etc before its to late!!!

She should just stay in the USA and play all the itf events and all the qualifying for the WTA events. I think Miami would give her a wild card if she asked since she is a former semi finalist and hurt herself on their center court.
Can we just blame Jaz for everything? Even though she's a nice girl.

I guess when it comes down to it, it is her fault. Bad decisions, she chose to hook up with Jaz and have her run everything.
Imagine if she'd stayed with Lars, or got a good coach like Tony Roach or something. She would have been the best.

i like what u say dannis law!i mean about the coaches!eleni has said in the past that she is a fighter, that she is trying etc etc..well u dont! if u really wanted to try u would!i think that at times she is lazy thats why she prefers to stay in germany without a good coach etc. a good coach will make her "spit blood" as we say in greece and i dont think she wants to do that anymore!its sad because she could have achieved so much more!!!u beat henin, dementieva etc....learn from that eleni!

Thats what I keep thinking. Beat Henin twice then lose to Meusburger twice. It makes no sense.
Get out of Germany, get a good coach, work hard, concentrate on singles and if you want to play doubles get a good partner like Medina or someone.
I guess now that she's getting older tough love is the only thing that will work, instead of sorrow and empty praise. She is my favorite player by miles and miles and she has so much talent.
One positive for this year so far, when I went and watched her at the Australian Open, her serve was really good, a lot of aces, not that horrible double fault weakness at has been the last two years.

@merda2004: Well, everyone has their own opinions on songs :p. As for the dopers, I think they are all innocent people, but there's nothing that can be done because they doped . They're still innocent though, but their coaches aren't ;). I feel bad for Thanou the most after she made a comeback in Birmingham and was booed and then found out she wasn't allowed to compete in Beijing a week before the start of the games, when she had no idea about the drugs in the first place

As for Eleni, I do think that she is wasting a lot of talent right now, and I'm starting to wonder if I still believe that she'll get back into the top 100, let alone the top 20. She can definitely do it, but she needs to try new things (like merda2004 said) in order to rise in the rankings. I don't mind her training in Germany, but I want her to train with Merkert and not Woehr :p

It can't turn out badly. Even if she loses straight away at least she's playing a WTA tournament and not doubles with Jaz in a 25k ITF tournament in Mozambique or something.

:haha:

If you guys saw in the news/articles thread, she updated her blog again and is already in Indian Wells even though she won't play for a week . She said she is feeling good and had some good practices. I don't know if that's something to be happy about since she always says that and loses in R1

can you guys imagine she draws Justine and upsets her as she did in the good old days? :spit: Ok,I better stop dreaming awake :help:,but wouldn't it be awesome? it will be more like crying if she happens to end up near Sveta in the draw. Please, whoever makes the draw, don't let that happen.

I had a dream last night that she drew Justine :rolls:
I woke up before the match started
Right away I said to myself "I can't wait to tell everyone on TF about my dream"
But Eleni only beats Justine on grass :p

The only favse of mine that I'd like to see Eleni draw is Ivanovic for obvious reasons and Cirstea since she's won just one tour match since the US Open (and she beat a WC) :o.
R1 vs. Cirstea
R2 vs. Ivanovic

And R3 against Wozniacki so she can show her how to play some real tennis!

Even one win would be outsdanding, it would give her 50 ranking points, as much as she'll get for winning a 25K! A few retirements and walkovers could also help her out

I don't know what to expect, really.I've only seen Craybas play once and didn't think she had anything special but then again playing a tournament in her homecountry can make a player more motivated to play well. Also I don't know how Eleni is playing, judging by results, not good.So it's difficult to tell. But it's exciting to see her name on a MD of a tournament like IW :D

Prediction:
Eleni will say in her next blog that it was really windy in the first set and she wasn't playing well, and then at 0-3 in the second set the conditions started to get better, so she was playing better but Jill was playing like a top 10 player and Eleni tried her best

be done?like what???what else can be done if eleni doesnt want to try harder?or she thinks she is, but in reality, she isnt!!!!

i was watching daniela v venus yesterday and i was surprised by danielas game! she is still going strong and could have easily beaten venus but...the big but is, that daniela is trying hard!!!! and moves from coach to coach and from people to people til she gets there! eleni the only thing she did lately is the move from greece to germany!!!
honestly who are u kidding when u say dear eleni that u train hard?us or urself???
one day she wins big and the next she loses big and to whom???to number 223 in the world!!!!
these kind of players u should easily win and not get beaten by them!!!
if i was her i would approach that guy who is training daniela.they mentioned his name yesterday but i cant remember it now!!!go and beg him to train u!!!!!

Right on merda.
She needs to progress. She says she tries because she actually does try in her matches but there is more to being a professional tennis player than just match play. She has to develop and needs a coach that will help her exploit other players weaknesses.
I liked Eleni but didn't really follow her back in the early 2000's then she reached world number 14 and I started supporting her, then I stopped for a while and she had good results at Wimbledon, Miami and US Open then I started again and she started to suck. I am thinking of stopping again for a while and checking back in 6 months to hopefully be pleasantly surprised, which will be hard as she is my favorite player by miles and I check updates on her everyday.
Maybe we should all give her a break for a while.

Dorien.

And Cahill will be tough to get and I think he works with only adidas players and Eleni wears lacoste

I want to try and stop checking her results for a while, but she is not my only favorite player so I will always be checking draws and stuff

Does anyone think she is reading this stuff?
