View Full Version : Amanda gets Gold Exempt Status for 2003

From John Weirtheim's Mailbag on CNN/SI:

The WTA Tour came out with its gold and silver exempt lists for 2003. The "winners" were Anna Kournikova, Amanda Coetzer, Alexandra Stevenson and Arantza Sánchez-Vicario, who all made the list despite being ranked outside the top 20.

The gold exempt list is made up of the top 16 players after each years US Open, plus four other top 50 players who the WTA deems as essential to the success of tour events. The greatest upside for Amanda is that, no matter what her ranking she is entitled to unlimited wildcards for 2003, for all tourneys.

This is a great gesture of gratitude and respect to Amanda after all her years promoting the WTA, and a testament to her marketability and crowd pulling power.

She deserves it

Great :bounce:

that would mean she's gonna play fulltime for another year!

I think the Gold Exempt status can be really useful at times, so it's cool she's got it. And of course, it shows a lot of respect for her!

That was exactly my first thought when I saw this ;)

I always hope she will use her Gold Exempt for Rosmalen ;)
