So I guess Serena may now play the Fed Cup in February (opening weekend of this tournament), as it the USA's match against France will be played not too far away in Lievin (near Lille).
Tickets should be available soon, but the ticket section of the website www.opengdfsuez.com (http://www.opengdfsuez.com) is still under construction. I'll be watching Saturday - Wednesday. Unfortunately, the large number of Fed cup world group ties and Euro / Africa zone groups the opening weekend, does tend to mean a lack of strength in depth in the qualifying draw. Very rare to see any Brits either, due to Fedcup and the Sutton $25k being the preceding week.

I think Brouleau is a possibility. Was really impressed by her the Poitiers 75k qualifying. Maybe Kristina Mladenovic too? In fact with the usual lack of depth in the qualifying event Mladenovic may get in without a wildcard. I hope Timea Bacsinszky plays here, she did this year.

Correct. Two wild-cards are reserved for top-20 players. If unused, then the wild card spot reverts to the next player waiting to get into the draw. In this case to Petkovic and Garbin.

So, Caroline Garcia gets a qualifying WC. Looks a reasonably promising junior. However, at Poitiers, she was outshone by the younger player, Lou Brouleau who made the main draw. At the 16s junior nationals at Roland Garros in August 2009, she was well beaten by Laetitia Sarrazin 6-2, 6-3 in the semi-final.

2 WCs reserved for top 10 players, I guess reckon, although I have never quite understood which tourneys do or don't apply that rule; if unassigned those spots go to next in. Julie Coin and Petra Martic (I don't know why) appear to have received WCs, and Tamira was next in, so got one of the unassigned top 10 WC spots. If that rule is applied at this tourney. Tourney site list does not mark which players are wild cards.

Correction: Actually, I don't think this tourney is applying that rule, because Flavia is not top 10, and Coin and Martic were not in line for next in. It adds up to 3 WCs to non-top 10 players.
