I vote Petra Cetkovska to enter the sisterhood...

Being mediocre and therefore playing mediocre tennis doesn't make her a slumper.

I vote Petra Cetkovska to enter the sisterhood...

I agree. I think these should be considered for the Slumping Sisterhood;

-Cetkovska (former top-50 player now ranked 150 and can't even win 25k tournies).
-Llagostera Vives (will probably start to focus solely on doubles soon. Barely won a match since Indian Wells).
-Dominguez Lino (reached r3 of the French Open but very little since).
-Makarova (double-bagelled by Alla K in Hobart and has only won one match since Los Angeles in August. Nine r1 losses since and a lot of points to defend e.g. r4 Miami and F in Estoril and Fes.
-Cirstea (seven match losing streak on the tour)

I would have suggested AMG and CSN but they seem to be gaining a little bit of momentum.

But some good performances in Hopman Cup.

And Dominguez Lino got to R3 of French Open with an unexpectedly open draw (Pennetta being double-breadsticked by Glatch)

Besides Marta there are others in qualis to watch out for:

KRAJICEK, Michaella vs FEUERSTEIN, Claire
DANIILIDOU, Eleni vs SILVA, Neuza
MATTEK-SANDS, Bethanie vs VAKULENKO, Julia
BELTRAME, Severine vs FICHMAN, Sharon
BOVINA, Elena vs PEERS, Sally

Results this week
Hobart MD
Bammer lost in 1st round to A. Bondarenko 64 61
Cornet lost in 2nd round to A. Bondarenko 64 36 62 (smashed Dulgheru in 1st rd 61 60)
Kanepi lost in 1st round to Zheng 46 63 76(4)
Mirza lost in 1st round to Molik 64 26 63

Sydney MD
Szavay lost in 2nd round to Rezai 63 76(5) after gaining 4 wins coming from the qualis and beating Jankovic in 3

I'd say fairly good week for Agnes, also a decent showing from Alize for the 2nd week in a row :D

Good luck to all in AO!

On the whole, not really a lot to celebrate for the Sisterhood after this AO. Disappointing, really.

Congrats to Slumping Sisters Sybille, Ana, Kaia, Tsvetana, Karolina and Agnes for winning a round in the MD. The congratulations are a little half hearted for Ana, Karolina and Agnes, however, as they all wasted huge chances to advance to the 3rd round.

Bad losses for Slumping Sisters Sesil and Severine. Sesil really wasted that WC oppurtunity. Tanasugarn was not a difficult draw at all. Severine's loss is even worse, going out meekly to Fichman in straights first round of qualies.

Slumping Sisters Misa and Bethanie deserve a pat on the back for battling away through qualies, but still, they both lost in a tight one in the final round. Bit of a missed oppurtunity for them both.

Let's hope our Sisterhood can see some nice results in regular tour events, because they obviously didn't handle the big stage very well at all.

Also, of course after a major event like this I am sure people will have thoughts on players who might be needing to enter the Sisterhood. ;)

I don't think any of the current Sisters have performed well enough over the Australian summer to leave.

Remember also to be realistic about your suggestions everyone. ;) One or two losses doesn't equal a slump.

Wow...interesting lol....i dont see any of these girls winning anything...just causing a handful of upsets here and there. I dont know whats going on with Ivanovic...maybe she just hers at the right time...but she's definately in a slump. lol....should we throw Jankovic in there? or will she evetually get her a slam?

Jankovic needs to be considered or at least "at risk" for slumphood:lol: maybe her ranking isn't low enough yet, but this year she has already lost to slumper Szavay and to Alona Bondarenko

Razzano has been awful too.

I agree with Makarova, de Brito and possibly Benesova too. If Razzano is playing high quality tennis, then surely she's going to hit some nice form soon. I don't feel like a player playing high quality tennis could truly be slumping that badly, or at least not for very long. Cirstea has been injured, and I don't know about Medina Garrigues. I don't feel like Amanmuradova is really slumping all that badly. She never really did anything other than make those two Tashkent finals, and even that was like 4 or so years apart.
Razzano is currently playing Patty and she is playing reeeally good and Patty too,,, absolute high-level-match!

I don't think either Razzano or Vesnina belong here. Yes, both will have hot streaks where they will have better results than their usual, but I don't feel like either are really ranked that much lower than you would normally expect them to be. Maybe Razzano, but as I already said I think we need to give her some time if she is playing as well as people say.
You know there's a real problem when Ana's being congratulated for winning one match in a main draw. She's a former #1 and GS winner FFS.
Well she hasn't played like a former #1 and GS Champion for about 18 months. Most people expected her to bomb out first round, so yes, why not congratulate her for not doing that.
I don't think benesova should be put in because shes still a good player.
It's not really about being a good/bad player. ;)

But if you mean that she is still playing good quality tennis but just not getting the results, then I agree. Benesova's case might be similar to Razzano's.
Gallovits?
Was she ever that good? I appreciate that players of all standards can experience slumps, but as I've already mentioned, I'd like to keep the Slumping Sisterhood for players who have a career high rank inside the top 50 (with some exceptions).
Razzano is defending Dubai finalist points. If she doesn't win at least 2 matches there next week, I think she belongs on this list.

I think her CHR was around 60-65, so not top 50 :p

Yes, but if she is still playing well and consistently, it won't matter that her ranking might tumble a bit. :) Because we'd have to take into consideration that she does have points coming off. I have been pretty impressed by her year so far though.

Sesil and Karolina should definitely be out of here. As far as my knowledge making the SF of a tournament isn't slumping.

And as for Karlolina, her record is 8-4 with a 2r at the AO with beating 25 seed Medina Garrigues, and then 4 wins in Paris, losing to an in form Peer, and then a QF at Memphis. There is no reason for either player to be here.

I was chatting to a regular contributor and they suggested that we wait until after Miami to make a reshuffle of the Sisterhood. I think that's a good idea, because if Sesil and Karo truly don't belong as so many people have said, then they will continue their consistent, solid results up until then. :) We should also keep an eye on Sisters Agnes and Kaia during this time, because I think they have shown much more consistency and improvement in their results lately.

Patricia Mayr - has fallen from 70 to 126 since last summer
Mathilde Johansson and Camille Pin - should definitely added. Were part of the top 100 until recently, now they have slumped out of the top 200.
Galina Voskoboeva - has fallen to around 140 after a spell in and around the top 100.
Melanie South - struggling to stay in the top 250 after flirting with the top 100 not that long ago.
Meng Yuan - is now 286 in the world! Has definitely fallen a few echelons.

None of those players, especially Meng Yuan, were very good in the first place.

Due to retirement, we bid farewell to Slumping Sister Nicole. Nicole was definitely one of the Slumping Sisters I was most hoping would leave The Sisterhood, but not in this way!

She is still so young and of course has time and the ability to come back, so I hope we one day see Nicole on a court again, but it'd be great if we never had to welcome her back to The Sisterhood. ;) Health and happiness to Nicole!

Poor Larcher Burrito! She can't even play regularly on the Tour and she is already on this thread? The poor girl already has too much pressure, lay off her! ;)

If she's gonna be another Vaidisova, at least let her have SOME results :tape:

Wozniak has 4th round points to defend in RG :help: I hope she can at least get past Benesova so she doesn't fall to far in the rankings...

Q-32 Stanford – lost to Tan 6-2 6-1 (No.578) as No.149

I just realized how epic this loss was. :hysteric: Nicole forever!

There are few Sisters who are right on the verge of being able to leave The Sisterhood by virtue of improved results, which would be a first for The Sisterhood and a very happy moment indeed. :)

I've held off on taking them out just yet though. It would seem pointless to remove them only to have to put them back in a few weeks later.

The main Sisters in question are Ana and Kaia. If you believe there are other Sisters who deserve to leave, then please leave your feedback in the thread! :D

Best of luck to all Sisters at Roland Garros! Play well and do the SSS (Slumping Sisterhood Supporters ;)) proud. :cheer:

Include Vögele here :sobbing:

I'd say take out Karin Knapp, she hasn't played since September. We might be waiting for the official retirement forever.

Looks like the RG is a bad GS to win, the last 2 champions have found a way to slump :sobbing:

I'm glad we didn't include Benesova, because soon after she was suggested, she went on a won a title:D

Yes, I think there are a few Sisters who we need to look at and decide on whether their results are ever likely to improve and if they should stay in. It's been so long for some of them that I think we need to look at whether they're really slumping anymore, or if this is just their new standard of play.

She has entered ITF tournament in Rome (second week of RG).

Does Ana just need a solid RG result and she can leave the Sisterhood?

^^ Basically... I just think we should wait and see that Rome wasn't just a once off good week.

Even if she reaches R16 in Paris, she won't move up in the rankings

Yeah I was thinking about Vesnina as well  It sucks to see these results after her great 2009. Although she certainly did not have an easy 1R.

Safina's just coming back from an injury, give it time:)

Radwanska hasn't won a title in almost 2 years, yet she's managed to stay in top10. Not winning titles doesn't mean slumping:)

I' suggest to take out:

Puchkova -- the last time she played MD qualifying was in Quebec City, so she's been mostly on the ITF circuit, but not ery successfully, usual exit is in the 2nd round with a few times advancing to the qf. Last time she had 2+ wins in a row was 2 years ago in Charlottesville (ITF).

Hsieh -- seems to be concentrated on the doubles, occasionally plays singles too (and not very badly), but I think if she'd put more effort into it, she'd do better than #315.

I'm a little torn about Knapp, Beltrame and Yan. Knapp hasn't played in like forever (according one Italian poster, she's more interested in her boyfriend than tennis), but is entered in Rome(ITF) next week. Beltrame is having a bad year really, which is what slumping's about, but her age (31 years) doesn't benefit her. Yan.. she's a bit mystery, having all those nice results in 2008 and some early in 2009, and then vanishing.

WhoAmI?
May 28th, 2010, 10:10 AM
Radwanska will probably have a career high rank after FO, can't just call it slumping
Azarenka has been struggling with injuries, she'll find her form again:)
