Who Will win it this year?

Player Of The Year:

Its quite clear who is going to win this one.

1) Serena - Won 2 Grandslams + YEC, and is the Year-end Number 1 (no one even comes close)
2) Svetlana - Won 1 Grandslam + 2 regualr tour titles and is number 3 in the world
3) Safina - Won Rome and Madrid + Year end #2 (and Portoz)

Last year's winner - Serena Williams

Doubles Team of the Year:

Its up for debate I guess. But I think Serena/Venus should win it.

1) Serena/Venus - The team holding holding 3 of the 4 grandslams and an impressive 23-2 win-loss (but didn't play a full schedule)
2) MJMS/NLV - The team holding 3MM titles + Toronto +New haven
3) AMG/VRP- The team holding 1 GS and having played a full schedule
4) Cara/Liezel - The number one ranked team (who is also holding 5 regular tour titles and a GS final)

Last year's winner - Huber/Black

Most Improved Player:

There are a lot of new players who have improved this year. But it will probably go to Wozniacki.

1) Wozniacki - Started the year at number 12, ended it at number 4 with a Grandslam Final and 3 titles (New Haven, Ponte Vedra and Eastbourne).
2) Azarenka - Started the year at number 16, ended it at number 7 with the prestigious Miami title along with Memphis and Brisbane.
3) Vesnina - Started the year at 76, ended it at number 24 with 2 regular tour finals.
4) Pennetta - Started the year at number 13, ended it at number 11 with LA Palermo titles.
5) Lisicki - Started the year at number 58, ended it at number 23 with Charleston title and Luxembourgh final.

Last year's winner - Dinara Safina

Comeback Player of the Year:

I think it will go to Kim . (They give awards to players who have come back after a long pause only)

1) Clijsters - 1GS, Year end ranking = 18
2) Maria - Title at Tokyo, Year end ranking = 14
3) Kimiko ? (she started her comeback last year though) - Titles at Seol and Monzon

Last year's winner - Jie Zheng

Newcomer of the Year:

I guess it will be Melanie as I cannot think of anyone else :speakles:

Last year's winner - Caroline Wozniacki

Humanitarian of the year:

I think it should go to Venus for speaking out against the whole Shahar Peer + Dubai matter, and being a good leader and icon for the WTA.

Last year's winner - Ana Ivanovic

Karen Krantzcke Sportsmanship Award:

Last year's winner - Elena Dementieva

What are the rules about newcomer of the year ?
Can for exemple Lisicki be newcomer of the year ?
I was thinking about Pavlyuchenkova (SF in Indian Wells, QF in Beijing + wins over Venus (2x), jankovic, Radwanska...) but Melanie had much better results in GS

And what's the difference betweenPlayer Service A.K.A Humanitarian of the year and Karen Krantzcke Sportsmanship Award?

I think that Serena, Kim and Serena+Venus will win

Despite not having bangs, Elena already won the Diamond Service Award.

Then, apparently, some other women will get some other awards or something.

But the most important thing is that Elena got the Diamond Service Award. Also, the coveted Diamond Service Award was won by Elena Dementieva.

Finally, the award for doing the most to promote women's tennis, also known as the Diamond services award, has been presented to Elena Dementieva.

I may even have started a thread about this, but I'm not sure.

Newcomer of the year should be between Oudin or Dulgheru. Mel has the edge over Alex though.

Mel should definitely be the newcomer of the year..

Wasn't last year's POY winner Jankovic?

MJMS/NLV hold 4 "MM titles" and of course the YEC, so they lead the tour with 7 titles in all, from 9 finals. I think it's also important to mention Bluber are the only team to have made QFs+ of every slam this year and of their 5 titles, 3 are Tier I events.

But really, the only competition for this award is between Bluber and WS. AMG/VRP won the French but have been dreadful for most of the rest of the year and didn't even come close to qualifying for the YEC. The other 3 teams you listed have had far better years.

Player of the Year: Serena Williams (This is obvious)
Doubles Team of the Year: Serena Wililams/Venus Williams (although I would not be surprised if Bluber or Martives got it)
Most Improved Player: Caroline Wozniacki (best candidate for sure)
Newcomer of the Year: Melanie Oudin (I would have said Yanina but the WTA won't give it to someone who's suspended, Oudin is next best)
Comeback Player of the Year: Kim Clijsters (obvious choice)
Humanitarian of the Year: Venus Williams (she spoke for Peer, I don't see who else would)
Karen Krantzke Sportsmanship Award: Elena Dementieva (Won it last year, won ACES, can't see anyone else getting it).

Caro won newcomer of the year after ending 2007 ranked #64. Lisicki ended 2008 ranked #54, so I think she can win it too.

I wonder who the newcomer of the year will be..I mean besides Melanie's fantastic run in the US open, she didnt really achieve anything great, will that be enough? I personally think Wickmayer should get it, but as someone pointed out, dont't think it will happen unless her ban is upheld! If not, Lisicki..:)
Player of the year = Serena
Comebackplayer of the year = Kim Clijsters :)
Improvement: Wozniacki!
Humanitarian; Venus or Kim. Venus for standing up for Peer and Kim for taking a stand for Wickmayer even though there are divided opinions on her ban. I still think it is strong of her to defend a player for something that she belives is wrong.

Sveta should win the sportsmanship award, because she has never won it before yet everybody on tour loves her!

They probably will give the newcomer award to Oudin, because, who else is there? Dulgheru? Urszula?

I think Jelena had a great comeback at the Australian Open, but then Kim had to go and do even better

Venus should get the sportsmanship award, just for putting Dinara out of her misery in the Wimbledon semis :)
