What the earliest Serena can lose #1 ranking...

Right after the AO or sometime after that? Anyone know the calculations of what's the earliest she can lose it?

Serena sydney SF + AO title = 2200 points

safina has Sydney F + AO F = 1720 points

Not a big difference. And Serena is way more likely to defend those points

Safina will be lucky to make it to the 2nd week.

If I'm not mistaken, if Serena loses early enough in Melbourne and Kuznetsova wins the whole thing, Kuznetsova would jump up to #1. If it's a 2000 point event, Serena could go down to the low 7000s, and Kuznetsova could jump to the low 8000s (points, not rankings :lol:).

Update: So Kuznetsova is defending 620 points in January and Serena is defending 2200 points, which means Kuznetsova can make a 1380 point jump with an Aussie title and nothing else, where as Serena would drop 2198 points with a 1st round loss. Now, I don't see that happening, but it's a hypothetical, no?

Wozniacki is Serena's biggest threat, imo.

I feel I may need to run on court and bash Woz's legs during the Aus Open.

Hey if Venus wins AO and Serena loses REALLY early in both then Venus will take over as #1. Esp if Venus plays an international and wins it. :) I can dream can't I?
