YANINA WICKMAYER WITHDRAWAL
06 Nov 2009 | English, Road To Bali

http://2009.commbanktennis.com/content/data/upimages/2009-yanina-press2.jpg

Following the withdrawal of Yanina Wickmayer from the Commonwealth Bank Tournament of Champions, WTA Tour Chairman and CEO Stacey Allaster stated:
"As reported this morning, the Flemish Doping Tribunal has informed Yanina Wickmayer that effective immediately they are suspending her from competition due to three filing failures under the Belgian anti-doping whereabouts programme. With this information Yanina herself has voluntarily withdrawn from the tournament and as a matter of policy the tour will not make comment on an ongoing tennis anti-doping matter."

"Yanina can appeal the decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport."

Wickmayer’s place will be taken by tournament alternate Vera Dushevina, who will play Anabel Medina Garrigues in the last match on Friday. However, she will not inherit Wickmayer’s 1-0 record in the Group.

Kimiko Date Krumm will advance to the semi-finals from Group C, as even if Garrigues beats Dushevina to match Date Krumm’s 1-1 win/loss record, Date Krumm will advance having a head-to-head win/loss record over Garrigues at this event.

But if it´s a Belgian anti-doping issue; it shouldn't affect wtatour; and Wickmayer should play next year too.
This should involve only to future Yanina's olimpic participation.

After Davydenko's betting scandal (over 1.5M$ stakes on underdog win which really happen at end at just one online bookmaker) it was obvious that "match fixing" and "gambling" problem really exist in modern tennis (or maybe here is better to remind about that Indian WTA mickey mouse event match between two Belarus girls with also giant stakes on correct score)... and whats happen after all that "zero tolerance" ATP/WTA campaign??? Victims are two poor Italians ATP guys which bet couple times (just about 50-100$ stakes per ticket) which never bet on theirs own matches and not always won!

So after Andre Agassi "drugs" confession no doubt for me that result after all that noise will be some ATP/WTA bizzare reaction... and I was right obviously.

All is happy now (except Starace/Bracali or poor Wickmayer)... Show must go on...

However, she will not inherit Wickmayer’s 1-0 record in the Group.

I love that they feel like they have to clarify this. That would be so hilarious if they actually had a rule that says the alternate gets to inherit the wins of the player they're replacing
