well I can easily understand the srebotnik choie, peschke is a very good double player. She wants to be competitive.
As for alize she must play with another single player I think, someone with a reliable serve. Still searching for her lol. Timea has a good serve but she's kinda similar as alize in her game. It doesnt suit.

I'd be surprised if Jelena Jankovic returns, she loved her time here but I get the feeling that her agents will ask for a massive acceptance fee (and as much as I love her shes no Anna Kournikova, she won't bring that kind of publicity to the event).

Good to hear Marina and Monica will be playing together again here hopefully. Yeah, I don't see any reason Monica should really get a WC and I say that as one of her biggest fans. Personally I think it would be best for her anyway to work her way into the draw via the qualies anyway. In the 1st tournament of the year it is always an advantage to go into your 1st round match having a couple of qualie wins under your belt. I want to see Monica have a much better year in 2010 than she did this year and getting through the Auckland qualies and then build on that in the main draw would be an idea way to start the year.

I'm glad that we agree on this. I agree, plus you can build a few points qualifying for an event (rather than getting a maindraw wildcard and then getting beaten by that poor chinese girl in round one)

Kiwi tennis star Marina Erakovic has finally mended the broken body, and now has her sights set on doing something about her ailing world ranking.

Erakovoic was today announced alongside rising New Zealand teenage star Sacha Jones as the wildcard recipient for the singles in January's ASB Classic in Auckland in January.

The 21-year-old Auckland-based professional had seven months out of the game this year while she dealt with a problem hip injury, and has seen her WTA ranking plummet from a career-high of 49 in 2008 all the way down to 235.

Thus the need for the wildcard, even though she does have a WTA "special" ranking of 83 which she will be able to use to gain entry in up to eight tournaments in 2010. This will be kept for other events, starting with the Australian Open, with Classic tournament director Brenda Perry more than happy to use one of her three "free passes" to get Erakovic into another main draw.

"It's been a long, long time since we've had two women's tennis players of this ranking and stature," said Perry. Jones, courtesy of a breakthrough year in which she won five ITF titles on the second-tier tour, has pushed her world ranking up to 167 and looks on the cusp of joining her fellow Kiwi in the top strata of the game.

Erakovic said today she was hoping the Auckland tournament could kick-start her year as she looked to regain the ground lost through her frustrating spell on the sidelines.

"I always play well here when I have that crowd support," she said. "It is home, it's always been good to push off every year, and I think it will be the same next year."

Erakovic said her main aim for 2010 was about getting that ranking back where it should be.

"I have eight tournaments with my protected ranking, and I'd love to do well in those so I can get a good ranking again. Maybe the top 100 and then I can still play the WTA [tour]."

After Auckland, she will enlist her protected ranking to play at the Australian Open, then Indian Wells and Miami, before reassessing the remainder of her programme based on which top-tier tournaments she can get into.

The Aucklander said she'd done it tough during her protracted time out of the game - the hardest part had been taking the role of spectator, or as she called it "couch potato" - but felt she was now ready to start turning things round.

"Matches are what I'm needing now, playing a lot of tennis, and getting used to those situations again," she said, now well over an ankle injury which briefly interrupted her comeback. "While I haven't been playing for six months everyone has been working hard and improving, so I've got to catch up again.

Ad Feedback
"But it's a year that's made me a lot stronger as well."

Erakovic confirmed she remained without a coach as she prepared for her return to the competitive arena, though hoped to address that situation sooner rather than later.

She had also not yet made up her mind up on who she would play doubles with in Auckland, but it would not be Jones who has little or no experience of the two-person game at this level.

In terms of any rivalry there may or may not be between the established Kiwi pro and the young pretender hoping to follow in her footsteps, Erakovic gave every indication it was a positive one.

"Good for her man," she said when asked about the "young punk" who had now overtaken her on the rankings. "Go for it. She's played well, and I'm very happy for her. It's a great thing if there are two of us on the tour, a great thing for the Fed Cup if there are two of us, and the more players we have the better."

Besides, where Erakovic is right now, she has more than enough to worry about on her own side of the court, without casting any furtive glances in the direction of a player who will be her hitting partner for much of her buildup over the next month.

The ASB Classic takes place in Auckland from January 4-9.

Those in the know would agree with me - there was some talk that Nicole was in the running for a Qualifying Wildcard (one of the ones that they usually give to an International) due to her being a former top 10 ranked player and having played here before without asking for an appearance fee (unlike Miss Bartoli, Miss Kournikova and many others).

So, Nicole's going to enter a 25k instead of the AO qualies, so I wonder what that means with her Auckland qualifying WC.

Alternates: Out Halep (184)

So as of yesterday Tamira 6 Out QD.

I haven't heard any talk about Tamira's eligabiliy for a Qualifying wildcard.... but when you consider her sucesses in such a short career you would think she has a chance at a Qualifying wildcard. They like giving wildcards to up and comers (Vika Azarenka, Misa Krajcek are both prior wildcard recipients).

Can i have an update on Krajicek?
She was in the EL's for Auckland and Brisbane. Did she withdrew for one of them?
Thank you:D

Misa plays in Brisbane Qualies.

When you Enter Quali there, you will be removed from Auckland ALT lists.
