Hey guys,

when we talk about a player's total weeks on top of the rankings (which may or may not be meaningful theses days...) do the weeks between seasons count? Is this why being Year-End #1 is so sought after? Or do the weeks in the off-season not count? If not...why allt he fuss about YE#1?

Thanks!

They count for about 8 or 9 weeks. Jelena Jankovic could be the player to benefit the most from this fact. She earned year end #1 a few years back in the last tournament of the year at the YEC. She only played about 4 actual active weeks at #1 in January, but goes down in the record books at having about 12 weeks at #1 due to the year end title.

Kind of interesting. The same thing happened to Andy Roddick on the mens side in 2003.
