This tournament will not be the total pile of crap that everyone is exaggerating it to be. They gave a WC to a player that did win an International tournament, so it is a valid spot for Kimiko :)

well, she's not young... but she can be considered as upcoming (again). :worship:

the tournament needs a selling point so it's good decision. If Kimiko just wins a match it will make more headlines than anything else the tournament could offer.

Yup. This really is like a 2nd career for Kimiko. And her 2nd career has actually only been going 18 months, so while in tennis terms she is admittedly anything but young she is indeed definately still upcoming. She is still in the early stages of career two I would say. :)

Bali - with or without Kimiko - is far away from becoming a tournament for young and upcoming players...there are some in the draw, but Bartoli, Stosur, MG, Martinez Sanchez are not young and not really upcoming (ok Sam is)

I think you people are taking the WTA's desire to showcase up-and-coming young players too far. It is only one of several reasons to have this tournament - NOT the only reason. This is not a junior tournament - it needs to have quality players playing quality games. So what if they offered WCs to over-30s? I'm sure the youngsters don't mind a test from the old foxes.

There is at least more quality than giving tournament places to a bunch of teenagers who may not have proven their abilities (such as winning a tier 3 title). I was arguing against having only young upcoming stars in the tournament...
