Kuzzy is/was the in form player of the moment and she did NOT play poorly at all - Serena kept her cool, played some good controlled aggression along with some of Serena's own mix it up style... it was a very good performance IMO. Patchy in parts, but she hasn't playedin a bit so... yeah. She looked like she really wanted this, she really wants the title and the ranking, and taking out the in form player and recent big tourney winner - in 2 sets, saving set points ... those a good signs. As much as I love Kuzzy, I hope she gets knocked out in the group stages, I won feel too pleased about them possibly playing again in the finals... because Kuzzy did have her chances to take this...

Neither of the Belgians has ever beaten Serena so emphatically.

Serena looked the most energized i've seen her in a Non-Slam capacity for quite a while.

I expected Serena to come on court, stroke the ball around in a blase fashion and either get outplayed or retire with some YEC recurring injury. Fortunately that wasn't the case, and we actually saw Serena COMPETE out there. Huge pounding off her forehand, and uber-clutch serving in the TB. Did well to recover from that ankle roll too, which would've been a shame if it had proved to be inhibiting. She was playing well after all.

Kuznetsova continually fails to impose her game on the elite consistently. She often reverts to Kuznetsova 2.0 and just looks to hit forehand thunderbolts without any regard really for margin or ideal shot selection. Serena did an efficient job though of quashing any bit of momentum Kuzy had.

Nice match really. Nothing GOAT-like, but enjoyable.

Glad for Rena, gutted for Sveta. The positive this for Sveta is that she's been one of the few players who always manages tp push Serena hard every time they play. People are acting like Sveta was 4-0 up or something. She was 3-1 up (and it didnt really have to do anything with Sveta's play) and got broken immediately. On the set points, Serena hit a stunning Forehand Return Winner and an Ace, nothing Sveta could do about it. But I guess in the Hater-world, its called as choking.

Sveta has always lost to Serena on faster surfaces and their h2hspeaks for itself 6-2.I think Sveta was pressing too much and made lots of errors but she is a good sport and I like her.
