Wors draw ever.

Flipkens R1.
Dulgheru R2.
Hercog QF.

Bitch Flipkens knows how to annoy Dokic with slices. Her boring game will kill Jelly :sobbing:

Actually Flipkens is the toughest opponent in her quarter, both Dulgheru and Hercog are very poor hard court players. Kerber is probably more dangerous than these two. But Jelena has to win against Flipkens first :scared:

At least she will be better prepared this time and will know what to expect from Flipkens. The key to match is how Jelena starts the match if starts badly spraying errors left right and centre the head and shoulders will go down and it will expose her lack of confidence. Flipkens is a fit player who moves well and she will make at lot of balls and that will expose Jelena's lack of consistency.

I think it will be that Flipkens will be too solid and as a result Jelena's errors and her focus and concentration lapses will cost her the match.

DokicToServe
Sep 27th, 2009, 06:01 PM
I think the hard court will play a major role one way or another in the match.

(Yes I know the USO is on hard court, but this is different.) If Jelena just plays solid she'll manage a good game. It will be a tough match, no wonder...

Oh Jela.

I hope for a far better match this time around, and I think there's a chance we'll get to see it. When they played at the USO, Flipkens was the worst possible opponent for Jela to draw. She hadn't played anything for ages, and when you come back and have no match play you want to play someone who is going to give you errors and free points so that you don't have to be perfect for the entire match, and can be allowed to play some shitty, rusty tennis at times.

Now, Jelena has had a few matches, she knows what not to do against Flipkens, and it's a much smaller tournament, so there's much less pressure.

:)

I'm not saying we should expect a double bagel or anything, but it'll be interesting to see how this one goes.

Flipkens is an average player and she moves ok.

If Jelena plays above 50%, Jelena wins.

If Jelena's game isn't good enough to beat the flipper yet, at least she will be motivated to work on getting fitter, faster and stronger for her next tournament!

She seems to have her fighting spirit and mental strength back. There were so many games where she was 0:30 down and she was able to turn them around...

DokicToServe
Sep 29th, 2009, 03:02 PM
I watched the whole match on TV.

On the 1st set, Jelena's first serve was really horrible, she had something around ~31% first serves in... And too many UEs. However she had some really nice and beautiful points and I think she picked up her game from the middle of the 1st set to the end. She won it 6-4.

2nd set was really fast, as Jelena picked up her game really much and Flipkens just lost the only weapon that she practically had, that is: returning balls. Jelena slight cut on the UEs and Flipkens started to make poor shot choices (leading to UEs). So Jelena broke 3 times, and the set ended 6-0.

All in all Jelena played just "ok" in the 1st set and pretty well on the 2nd (I guess she always needs to "warm up" while in a match or something?). Her attitude was classic Jelena attitude, with the serious face and the occasional ranting when she made an error, or she had a close call go against her, or when Flipkens made a really difficult shot.

She's playing well, she just needs to get more first serves in (thus lessening the DFs) and find a way to reduce the UEs.

GO JELENA! :D

Yeah... well I sort of agree with the summary, but I'd have to add that Jelena contrary to the match at the USO was smarter today. She mainly hit to Flipkens' fh and eventually broke that shot down and then continued to go there. Flipkens' wasn't able to use her slice and variety that well because of that and was leaking errors off the fh wing.

She played better than at the USO, but it was by no means super play. It was ok. A step into the right direction I guess. She was a step too slow at times as well though and didn't look all that fit, gotta get that back asap. :p Hit some nice winners and one two punch combos though.

Btw, after the match against Flipkens she said

Dokic finds her good self

Jelena Dokic started her matches in Vogue Athens Open with an emphatic 6-4, 6-0 win over Kirsten Flipkens. Performing superbly, especially during the second set, the 26-year-old Australian didn't leave any chances to Flipkens, who she had lost from in the first round of US Open. "After the problems I had in the summer, I slowly find my form. Today the weather conditions were good. There was no wind and this helped me perform my best game. I did well for a first match. I wouldn't like to predict the outcome of the rest of the week. I look at one match at a time..." said Dokic.

I'm not a big fan of Domachowska but she hardy ever loses that badly and Kerber being a lefty, hitting deep and with nice angles might be a problem for Jelena... She qualified for USO and then defeated Petkovic, so she's not only playing well but also with a lot of confidence..

Into the semis with a relatively routine win. :hatoff: (That is, if routine means coming back from a 2-5 deficit in the first set :D .) Looks like Jelena is really over the mono now and is working herself back into match shape.

Only bad thing is that if she wins this title we're going to have to start every tournament with a :scared: thread. ;)

Watched the match on TV (sorry guys, no means to upload it :( ).

Well... the thing with Jelena is that it CLEARLY stands out that she is a better player than the rest of the girls. There were some points that were absolutely beautiful (strong, deep and with nice angle winners). I nearly got up from my seat to clap. :p

On the other hand, there were some fool and nonsense UEs that really make you wonder why they happen in the first place. (Too many shots on the net at the 1st set, some missed lines etc.).

On the 1st set Dokic did an amazing comeback from 2-5 to win the set 7-5. It's no exaggeration to say that many of Kerber's points where due to Jelena making a poor shot or an UE.

On the 2nd set, Jelena played really good service games, as far as I remember. Whenever it was Kerber serving, Jelena played pretty well and on nearly every game she gave me the impression that she was going to break but... :p

Her attitude on court wasn't so good though. She was kinda angry for a long duration of the match, and always looked up to pick a fight (with the umpire, the ball kids, the linesmen etc.). However when she took control of the match on the 2nd set she relaxed a bit.

All in all, Jelena dictated play for most duration of the match (either in good way, spraying winners, or in a bad way, giving free points to Kerber). She played pretty well and wanted to cut the rallies short either winning the point or losing it.

She's definitely on the right track and regaining form. GO JELENA! :D

So that's the same attitude from Sofia which surprises me. I was sure that the results will improve when she stops being in such a bad mood all the time, but I'm happy to be wrong. I wonder why she's so angry though as it's obvious there IS tennis left in her. Can't wait for tommorow :lick:.

yeah the footwork is very ordinary... sometimes off the backhand side instead of moving her feet she just hits a slice... i agree on the coach aspect although i don't think she will ever ditch borna... we can only hope for a consultant of some sort... and an intense fitness regime during the off season so that she has lost the weight before AO 2010
