Ula's quarter in Seoul ;)

(3)Francesca Schiavone ITA v Q
Maria Kirilenko RUS v Q
Anastasija Sevastova LAT v Mathilde Johansson FRA
Urszula Radwanska POL v (7)Vera Dushevina RUS

Semifinal is possible but I think she would tank her quarterfinal as Tokyo quallies are waiting.

Ula's quarter in Seoul ;)

(3)Francesca Schiavone ITA v Q
Maria Kirilenko RUS v Q
Anastasija Sevastova LAT v Mathilde Johansson FRA
Urszula Radwanska POL v (7)Vera Dushevina RUS

Semifinal is possible but I think she would tank her quarterfinal as Tokyo quallies are waiting.
A semifinal would be worth 70 more points than a quarterfinal, so Ula would have to qualify and win her 1st round match in Tokyo to make up that difference (30 points to qualify, 60 points for winning a 1st round in Tokyo).

Even though Ula's not at her best I somehow can't see her losing this:

[Tokyo Q draw]

Good luck!

Tommorow Agnieszka vs. D. Hantuchova on ES (last match on CC)

TeamUla
Sep 28th, 2009, 04:30 PM
Agnieszka Radwańska awansowała do II rundy turnieju w Tokio. Zła wiadomość jest taka, że ciągle boli ją prawa dłoń. Ma zapalenie ścięgna przy palcu serdecznym. - Chodzi na zabiegi, ale nie można wykluczyć operacji - mówi menedżer.

Rozstawiona z nr. 11 Polka wygrała 7:5, 6:3 z Rosjanką Jekateriną Makarową (WTA 54) w pierwszym meczu od zakończonego miesiąc temu US Open.

 I hope an injury will be cured at an off-season. Hopefully she manages to defend at least a half of her Zurich, Linz, Dauha points [690]. :( She nearly defended her Stuttgart points with Tokyo 2R. :p

Surprisingly easy win, taking Aga is injured. It's nice she won, but still I think it's senseless to play with an injury. Who cares about the points, if next year we'll have the same story. Aga should spend the time between USO and new season for recovery (maybe even surgery would be good).

What a great match by Aga!
I don't mean rank of her opponent, range of tounrament, or even the level (which was really good). I mean the fight, it was one of the toughest Aga's matches I've ever seen, true war on court. Reminds me Cibulkova match from Doha. Before the match I asked "who's Petković?", never hearing about her before. Now I ask once again "who's Petković?" being surprised she plays that well. That fact Aga survived such battle, where she tried different tactics, played really aggressively and at the same time stayed cool in such danger, makes this match one to remember.

First of all, I had doubts Aga would beat Hantuchova and after she won, I thought Petković would be no game for Aga. Wrong again. Now I worry about Aga's hand, can't remember when she played so hard so long. She will feel it. Hopefully I'm wrong once again.

My concern is exactly that she doesn't go to the game with the exact mindset. She said herself that her wrist or hand was still hurting a bit, and she already played four matches in a row. I'm afraid she won't take too much risks and knowing how Sharapova plays, I'm also afraid she becomes too conservative and defensive... But then again, I'm hoping to see a good fight and I want her to prove me wrong. Badly.

I agree with this. As much as people say the match is in Sharapova's hands, I believe it to be in both Maria's and Agnieszka's hands. Peak Maria doesn't beat Peak Agnieszka (or anytime they are playing at a similar "%", for lack of a better term) 6-0 6-0 as many on this Forum would like to believe.

We watched the same match, but we paid attention to different things. Of course all fans like their faves are winning easily, with most shots being great and almost without errors. But sometimes they struggle with themselves or with really well playing opponents. Petković put Aga in a danger position, it's mentally so tough to win from 1-3 in 3rd, when the rival is playing so well. Most players would fail in such situations. That match gave Aga much confidence, which was seen in another good match against Rybarikova. Magda didn't play as good as Andrea, but it's not Aga's problem. ;)

Aga lost 3-6, 6-2, 4-6... Not bad, but at least she could have held her serve once in a while if it wasn't asking too much (not that Sharapova was much better in this point, though)... I'm pretty sure that almost a half of Masha's winners came directly from 2nd service returns, and a couple more on some weak 1st serves also... But anyway, congrats to Aga for reaching her first semi of the year, hope she can build on this good run! :yeah:

TeamUla
Oct 2nd, 2009, 07:48 AM
Aga showed a good game. She lacked her dropshots, really Sharapova made better ones than her when she decided to. Aga also didn't try to attack the net which she did on her previous matches but it's not strange for me as it's very difficult to go to the net when Sharapova is behind. She needs a better second serve and one good finishing shot.

BTW, her Beijing draw is like a cake until the final.

About Tokyo SF Aga vs Maria Sharapova:

This SF was an entertaining match like always between Aga and Maria.:D
Aga played a really good match. It was close. Strong play in set 2.

At 4-1 for Aga in set 2 Aga`s forehand was clearly on the line. It should have been a winner.
Pathetic umpire and line judge.

Some really impressive winners from Aga: On return and to finish long rallies.
What I liked was that Aga played aggressive and fought very hard.:worship:

If you have not seen it yet, you should watch the match highlights on www.sonyericssonwtatour.com !:hearts:

Tokyo was a successful tournament for Aga.:yeah:

Now about Beijing:

Ula lost again in Round 1.:(

Schnyder seems like a difficult opponent for Aga.
Hope she is 100% healthy and not tired from Tokyo. Aga has to play aggressive!

Ula in match against Patty. according to Thedestroyer from TennisInsight

Patty Schnyder knocked off Aggie's sister Urzula Radwanska in the previous round, she was down 2-5 in the second set before yielding the last five games of the match to clinch victory. The veteran looked uncomfortable on serve with Pole fairly aggressive on return, she landed just 49% of firsts but was gifted a host of unforced errors off both wings from Radwanska on the second ball and on big important points aswell (squandered 8 of 10 break chances).

Urzula was annoyed throughout the match, looked physically unwell and was often verbalising her frustration at her coaches box - it even got to the point where she belted her racquet numerous times on the court and was lucky to get away with a code violation. She had a near-miss tumble when retrieving a crafty lob from the Swiss which made her appear ginger on her right ankle thereafter, and spent more time worrying about the calls of the chair ump than focusing on her match with Patty. You can bet your bottom dollar her older sister, the wiser and more composed Agnieszka, will not make the same mistake.

She can win any tournament, but she needs to have some luck and she needs to play flawless game in important matches. She could have won Tokyo for example, but she failed in match with Sharapova. Wozniacki has reached a slam final as a less talented player, so I assume that Agnieszka just has to wait for her time to come ;)

Schnyder isn't the youngest player on tour so if she doesn't win the first set, it's hard for her then. Agnieszka since the beginning played her tennis and finished her match quickly. I called her, but we didn't talk about Schnyder, only about marketing issues. - smiles Wiktor Archutowski, Radwanska's manager.

In the third round Radwańska will face Maria-Jose Martinez-Sanchez. The spaniard defeated the hope of american tennis - Vania King after two equal sets. - It is tallented doubles player, additionally tall and left-handed. Such players are dangerous but Agnieszka is the big favourite here - claims Archutowski.

Radwańska vs. Dementiewa are such battles! Did you see how tired looked Lena after those rallies, not like Aga looked any better.

TO ALL THOSE WHO COMPLAIN ABOUT AGA'S SERVE:
You need to make stats of Aga's matches. Different stats, where you can see how many points she's winning/losing in serve-return situations and rallies (points where situation is levelled, not affected by serve or return any more). Then you'll realize serve in Aga's matches is almost meaningless. Like generally in whole women's tennis.

Bartoli, no doubt. Aga beat her before plus she manages to deal with her flat shots pretty well.

The problem is that, given the fact that she is undoubtedly a good returner, a good and solid service game would increase her probabilities of going through some matches quite faster than she actually does (and not talking particularly about today's match). I don't believe that her serve is actually "weak", or else she wouldn't have survived in the top ten border for so many time, and you're right when you say that service games are quite meaningless in the whole women's tennis; but you might agree that an actual improvement in that aspect of her game could take her game yet to a further dimension. :yeah:

I could not agree more, and not that I don't also see some strengths in Agnieszka's serve (especially the first one). If Agnieszka improved her serve it would do two things:
1. Add power to her already great game and make her tough even for oponents like Serena at her best
2. It would also mean Agnieszka admitted that she has a weakness which she stubbornly refuses to acknowledge. It would mean she became so much more mature and that itself could put her on top... literally!

Ok, I agree Aga can improve her serve, to give her some free points, to be not attackable, to be less breakable. Theoretically, yes. But in practice, I can assure you, nothing will change. If you point this as weakness now, you'll do the same till end of her career, unless you realize her serve can't be improve enough to change her stats. Does she need more power? Yes, not for serving, but to stay in rallies against the strongest rivals. I'll repeat this all the time: rallies are these, where Aga loses or wins her matches. You could see that against Dementiewa today, MJMS yesterday and Schnyder on Tuesday. Same was against Szarapowa, Williams sisters, Ivanović, Janković, Kuzniecowa and all the rest. I doesn't matter her first serve won't give her some aces and her 2nd serve will be few times killed. Remember Aga's defeats? What are the 3 reasons? If she's in rallies too passive, overpowered or in UE mode. It happens one of these reasons make other. You can say all players have the same reasons of losing. Ok, but Aga is already one of the best players in the world at the moment, when the situation in point is levelled. She still has reserves, and if she uses them she is able to dominate everyone in tour. Aga is one of just few players who can play aggressively, cleverly and without many unforced errors. Most players can play with one or two of these characteristics, but that's not enough. All three are real possiblity for Aga. And that's enough for women's tennis. ;)

Press conference with A. Radwanska (from www.chinaopen.com.cn/en/2009)

Date: 9th Oct. 2009 Time: 20:30

Q: Dementieva made a lot of unforced errors. Was your winning based on her unforced errors?
A: I didn’t see the statistics. Well I can’t say much. We had a lot of rallies and we both made fewer mistakes. I think it’s a good match. I had no idea how many unforced errors she made.

Q: Some of my friends said your performance today was like Martini Hingis’ game. It was quite smart, how do you think? A: I heard about it that I played like her. She played good tennis and was my idol when I was young. I guess we both don’t play powerful tennis and I can’t hit as strong as Serena and Venus.

Q: Can you say anything about the coming semifinal?
A: I don’t know who I’m going to play against. Zvonerava and Bartoli both play good. I have no idea who will win today. They are both top players. I have to play 100% to beat both of them.

Q: you have good relation. Suggestion.
A: Yes she is nice and we have good friendship. I enjoy to talk with her and other Chinese players. I play all the time late till almost 9:00 pm. Then I need to take massage till 11:00. everyday at similar time. So I don’t have many chances to go somewhere.

Q: All the top seeded players in China Open are out. Do you think you will win the championship?
A: I’ve no idea. Last couple of weeks we had many tournaments out early. This is just women’s tennis you will never know. We just have to fight to the last. It’s just the tennis. I’m not surprised that top players are out. We have bad days, like too tired or injury.

Fast sum up for Race to Doha
8. Jankovic 3660
9. Zvona 3550
10. Aga 3390
11. Pennetta 3200

next week Aga and Penneta play in Linz (up to 280 pts) in Osaka Bartoli (up to 280)
Later in Moskwa Zvonareva Pennetta and Aga (up to 470pts)
Not so easy, unluckily, The Race standings are best of 16 this year.

Aga played such a good match, totally tired out Marion who ran out of gaz in the end. A very deserved winner :yeah:
Very good mix of defensive shots (basically 1st set) and surprising winners on BH (13 down in the 2nd set).
Hope she keeps owning Sveta to keep her perfect record in finals alive!

Strong win, Super-Aga!:bounce::D:woohoo:

Beijing Final!!!:speakles:

Good fight back from 1-3 in set 2 to win 6-4 6-3.

More winners than unforced errors.

Nice handshake and kiss at net.

Aga is mentally so strong and plays so patient and smart tennis, attacking at the right moments.

How is it possible for Aga to play WTA Linz on Monday/Tuesday?!:help:
She will be dead in Linz.:sobbing:

Now vs Kuznetsova. Kuznetsova is obviously huge favourite and is in scary good form.:scared:
I expect a 2-sets-loss.
But please prove me wrong, Aga!
Good luck in Final!:D;)

I am normally very reluctant to accuse any player of cheating but what I saw today in the match against Bartoli at 2:2 30/0 qualifies in my eyes as an evident cheating by Bartoli. After a breathtaking defence by Agnieszka, Bartoli is unable to control the high-jumping ball after a lob on a line and sends it into the net, and then claims that was out!

Of course, it wasn't and she knew well enough it wasn't -- she was right there, the ball wasn't fast at all -- whatever speed it had it was the speed gained from the Earth gravity, and it fell with its full perimeter on the line.

Radwanska-Bartoli in L'Equpe

Aga lost 2-6 4-6

Generally we shouldn't complain, Swieta was simply better today. If Aga wanted to win it, she should have taken more points from rallies, as in serving/returning she wasn't much worse than her opponent. But lets not forget it's Aga's biggest success so far. :yeah:

She'll improve it next year. ;)

Are you healthy mentally? Being happy because of someone's loss is a first symptom of some mental disease.
Agnieszka didn't play badly just Sveta was too good for her today.

Very nice match, still. I don't feel disappointed at all, especially now that we know Sveta had to overcome such a tragic event in her personal life.

Any chances for the YEC now? Is it safe to say that she'll surely go to Doha, as a 2nd ALT at least?

She must win Linz and Moscow + Zvonareva can't be in the final of Moscow. Too tough I guess for Agnieszka  Her alternate spot as the second alternate is still not safe as Pennetta can overtake her.

Well played by Aga, unfortunately Svata was on her A-mode today.

Yes, Sveta played very well today. I only saw the second set from around 3-2, but one thing I noticed was that Agnieszka was holding serve very well. Had she not been broken early in that second set, the entire match could've played out differently.

Aga:sad:
Good that Eurosport showed the trophy ceremony. It was funny when Aga tried/pretended to hit Kuznetsova with the tournament mascot during Kuznetsova`s speech.
Does anybody know why? What did Kuznetsova say?

Overall 2 very good weeks in Tokyo and Beijing from Aga. Semifinal and Final in 2 successive WTA Premier tournaments.:yeah:
Nobody else could do this.
I`m really proud of Aga.:D

Kuznetsova said into the microphone that Agnieszka ran into 'bad luck' that day, and Agnieszka smiled and fake-hit Sveta with the plushie. :)
