BULLSEYE!

(cue Tony Green) "It's a Bullseye! And here's your host... Jim Bowen!!!" (applause)

Sunday afternoons on Central... quality. It combined darts, with a quiz. Sheer genius.

And who can forget those classic Bullseye quotes..

Jim Bowen -
"Super, Smashing, Great"
'Keep out of black and in the red, nothing in this game for two in a bed'
"You can't beat a bit of bully"
"Lets have a look at what you coulda won"
"BFH, that's your Bus Fare Home" (if the final contestants gambled all their prizes on the "Mystery Star Prize", and lost, then that's all they got)

Great news anyway, it might be coming back, but unfortunately Jim Bowen won't be hosting it, Tony Green will remain as co-host. I think Roy Walker would be a perfect host for it.

I think it should be "Jeu sans frontières" (think of the Peter Gabriel song :)) I saw a version of this when I visited my German relatives many years ago called "Spiel ohne Grenzen".

I also enjoyed "Super Grips", which was the German version of the American show "Blockbusters". When I was in college we had this "Scola" channel which would show broadcasts from other countries, and I got to see the Russian show "Brain Ring". Now there was an interesting quiz show. In fact, I like most game shows and watch the old ones on the Game Show Network here in the States.

I don't like the set on the new version of Pyramid. Too cold and sterile for my taste.

Fransizka, I remember the Beverly Hills Teens! People with names like Troy and Bianca... ;)

Ted, I used to watch game shows all the time when I was a kid, and I remember the U.S. version of Blockbusters. Not to mention Scrabble, Sale of the Century, Card Sharks, $25,000 Pyramid, and...here's testing your memory: All-Star Blitz! :D

I have watched the first couple episodes of the new Pyramid, and it's okay...the set is a little jarring. At least they didn't change the rules all around. They did that to a new version of Card Sharks last season, and it was unwatchable.

Do you want Christopher Hewitt's bottom, middle, or top? :D Although I can't remember who hosted All-Star Blitz.

As for Sale of the Century, I had the home version of it! (Actually, spending the $20 or so on the buzzer was worth it.) Jim Perry also did Card Sharks (the 70s version) which can be seen on Game Show Network (as can the Bob Eubanks version).

Do you remember "Bruce Forsythe's Hot Streak"?

Card Sharks: I've seen both versions. Believe it or not, a few years ago I interned at a video production company here in Indianapolis, and my supervisor was one of the producers on the original Card Sharks! She remembered that she always got nervous whenever the set rotated on that turntable.

Indy:

The basic premise of "Hot Streak" was that each member of a team of five had to define the same word for another member (they went down a line, and those who didn't yet know what the word was wore headphones full of white noise so they couldn't hear what was going on in the studio). However, they couldn't repeat an "important" word in the definitions. So, if the word were "chair" and the first person used the word "sit" in the definition, none of the other players could use "sit".

The rest of the rules are kind of fuzzy in my memory. After a bit of searching on the web, however, I came up with two sites: http://www.xanfan.com/hotstreak/index.htm and
http://www.loogslair.com/gameshow/rules/hotstreak.html

I just started reading alt.tv.game-shows on Usenet and am finding out that there are people who are even bigger game show fans than I am. :)

Fransizka , I mostly remember the theme song (We're livin' in style, we do it right...in Beverly Hills!), and a few of the characters...one of them was the Valley Girl who always wore glasses, do you remember what her name was?

No, I don't... I remember Troy (the heart throb of the place ;)), Lark (Troy's blonde girlfriend), Bianca (the bitch character with loooong raven hair)... oooh, the rock stars... ;) I'll have to think about it! :) Wasn't there also a character who was crazy about horse riding?

Speaking of "Jet," come back to my "Music Guilty Pleasures" thread...I brought that thread back to specifically mention...The Jets! :)

Okkkkkaaaaaay!! *making notes* ;)

I'm impressed, but do you have the DVDs? If you've seen them, can the Dark Shadows DVDs be recommended?

Unfortunately, I can't give a personal opinion on MPI's release of Dark Shadows on DVD, as I haven't had the chance to view any yet :(

But general response from fans at various Dark Shadows forums has been positive. Here is a link to one fan's impressions of the DVDs that is kinda interesting. Some pros and cons.

If MPI continues its current release rate of 1 boxed DVD set (40 episodes) every quarter, then it will be almost 8 years before all episodes are out on DVD! So I'll definitely be hanging on to my MPI VHS tapes for years to come. Love the idea of the show being released on DVD, though.
