Anna at the US Open 09HowardH Aug 27th, 2009, 04:29 PM Anna has drawn a qualifier, probably Bepa 2nd rnd :scared:. Good luck Anna! Noctis Aug 27th, 2009, 04:31 PM Oh A Qualifier :scared: Daszmarelli Aug 27th, 2009, 04:32 PM tough draw, as expected :scared: but she can beat Q and Bepa isn't in her best shape gdot Aug 27th, 2009, 05:22 PM good luck anna!! here is her section Zvonareva-Llagostera-Vives Q-Chakvetadze Q-Craybas Hradecka-Vesnina  vesnina in there again tedlesurfeur Aug 27th, 2009, 06:58 PM Zvonareva is not at her best, so my guess is that our little princess can reach the 3rd round and defeat Vesnina yet again !! En route to R4 against Pennetta !!! Drimal Aug 27th, 2009, 08:33 PM Anna has nothing to defend at this US Open (unlike last season), so no pressure If she plays like she did this week she could get past a Zvonareva who isn't at her best yet. Michael. Aug 28th, 2009, 06:04 PM go anna !!! sammy01 Aug 28th, 2009, 06:24 PM if she beats the Q shes gained 100 points, so even a 2nd round wouldn't be bad. vera isn't in form and is still struggling after her injury. chak should feel confident of a shot in the 3rd round HowardH Aug 30th, 2009, 08:15 AM She has drawn Erika Sema. I find it hard to believe Erika has any chance at all against Anna. I saw her play before in NZ where she won a 10k a few years ago and she had absolutely nothing, no power, no anything except consistency, of course she has obviously improved a bit, but I still doubt she will be any problem for Anna. This is one of the easiest qualifiers to draw. She did beat Kimiko though, but I just don't think she will pose any problems for Anna unless her game has changed completely. If she loses this :o. Edit: Anna has actually drawn Erika's big sister Yurika. So I haven't watched her play, maybe she is a bit like her little sis, but she is obviously a little bit better, ranked 170 instead of 279, and now that upset over Kimiko is troubling me a bit. GeorgianFan Aug 30th, 2009, 09:10 AM Erika or Yurika Sema?? smokovec Aug 30th, 2009, 10:20 AM Erika or Yurika Sema?? Yurika Sema. Good for Anna, I think, better than other Q, but I totally don't know this player. Daszmarelli Aug 30th, 2009, 11:22 AM Sema???? Who's??? please Anna smash her! sammy01 Aug 30th, 2009, 11:52 AM i have a feeling sema is a complete pusher, but will be fast and get a lot of balls in court. anna should win this match in straights, if she doesn't i will be deeply unhappy. she plays tomorrow on court 10. HowardH Aug 30th, 2009, 01:27 PM Erika or Yurika Sema?? Oh, they put Erika on the printable draw but I think it's actually Yurika, her sister. So this is not the girl I watched. Maybe she is a bit different to her sister, but I think most likely they are similar. Big sister Yurika is obviously a wee bit better, 170 as opposed to 279. i have a feeling sema is a complete pusher, but will be fast and get a lot of balls in court. anna should win this match in straights, if she doesn't i will be deeply unhappy. she plays tomorrow on court 10. Well her sister Erika whom I watched was a complete pusher, very consistent though, she drove Anna Smith of Britain insane. Most likely Yurika is consistent too, but she must have something a bit better than her little sister, either a little more power or maybe even quicker around the court. Still think Anna should win easily, but after realising this is not the same girl I watched but her big sister, the win over Kimiko is bothering me more. sammy01 Aug 30th, 2009, 03:20 PM a 1st round win would put chak inside the top 60 (around 55 depending on other results) which isn't bad considering she was 75 last week. she has a great chance to gain loads of points the end of this season. i like that shes playing in korea, a smaller tournament will do her good. Noctis Aug 30th, 2009, 03:26 PM Good choice in Korea :yeah: I Saw Sema play before.in GuangZhou she has a good ForeHand thats about it.Shouldnt be trouble to Anna if she concerntrate Wintermute Aug 31st, 2009, 02:01 PM Anna is third on Court 10 today. She has no points to defend so there is a real opportunity to gain her. I've probably jinxed her now by saying that. I don't know Yurika Sema at all. She beat Anna Tatishvili, Kimiko Date and Anne Kremer in qualies - required three sets to get through all of them. Even with Anna's drop in ranking she should really take care of this girl. penkku Aug 31st, 2009, 03:06 PM GL Anna :D please win ;) Daszmarelli Aug 31st, 2009, 06:21 PM First match on court 10 has finished (Granollers beat Zverev), now Kanepi will play Chang, Anna plays after it. Daszmarelli Aug 31st, 2009, 08:06 PM second match on court 10 also has finished, so we'll have Anna playing in few minutes. :bounce: Daszmarelli Aug 31st, 2009, 08:11 PM 1-0* Anna held at love. Phone and internet won`t work. Something with phone is changed.:( Anna 5-2!:) My last post... HowardH Aug 31st, 2009, 10:02 PM i just cant figure chak out anymore. she now cant win the 1st set to save her life. she cant serve for sets at all but can guts out tie breakers and 7-5 against bammer. its like theres 2 chaks in every match I think there's more than 2 ;). There are at least three or four chaks: Play horribly against weak opponent chak, this chak manages to lose games against even the weakest opponent, especially in first sets. Fighting chak, who never gives up and survives marathon games. Winning streak chak, who reels off several games in a row and builds up leads. Squandering lead chak, who does exactly that. I wish smart playing chak would come back though, she was the leader of the group but has been taking an extended vacation... Ooh MPs  Michael. Aug 31st, 2009, 10:02 PM :woohoo: please finish it anna !! Daszmarelli Aug 31st, 2009, 10:02 PM wasted 2 MP  HowardH Aug 31st, 2009, 10:03 PM Yay! Daszmarelli Aug 31st, 2009, 10:04 PM  playing like this she has no chance against Bepa. IMO gdot Aug 31st, 2009, 10:04 PM typical chak match, but a wins a win :hearts: Michael. DiscoStick Aug 31st, 2009, 10:05 PM OMG, she won! What was the score? Wintermute Aug 31st, 2009, 10:05 PM Well at least she picked up some ranking points. That's good but not too happy with the scoreline. sammy01 Aug 31st, 2009, 10:06 PM thank god she won, but losing a set to sema is :help: still i'll take any win at a slam, good play from 1-1 in the 2nd set to keep control of the match. ok rest now please chak. shes in the doubles draw i see. HowardH Aug 31st, 2009, 10:07 PM Phone and internet won`t work. Something with phone is changed.:( Anna 5-2!:) My last post... At least she won for you . See you in 2 weeks :wavey:. HowardH Aug 31st, 2009, 10:09 PM OMG, she won! What was the score? 4-6 6-1 6-2. Don't let the scoreline in the second and third sets fool you, they were anything but straightforward. Daszmarelli Aug 31st, 2009, 10:11 PM 100 points  sammy01 Aug 31st, 2009, 10:11 PM the 100 ranking points will do her good sammy01 Aug 31st, 2009, 10:12 PM should be around 55 now after this win (depending on other results) not bad from 75 just 2 weeks ago her aim must be top 32 for the oz open so she can get a seeding Daszmarelli Aug 31st, 2009, 10:13 PM Yeah, she's in doubles with MEC like RG and Wimbly, they faces Hlavackova/Hradecka fish_wilson Aug 31st, 2009, 10:16 PM At least she will be fit if she keeps playing three sets every match. Nice win Anna. Daszmarelli Aug 31st, 2009, 10:16 PM Some top players not must to play Moscow this year, so she has a good chance playing good at home and gain more points. She has nothing to defend at Moscow. She'll play before Seoul and Tokyo. DiscoStick Aug 31st, 2009, 10:16 PM 4-6 6-1 6-2. Nice win Anna. We can all see from her pictures that Anna is very, very fit . But this is a very stressful way to stay fit :tape:. Damn, was there a stream? :o Unfortunately not . So you didn't miss out on anything. But just from following the scores it was obviously a struggle even in the second and third, many long games and it was never obviously whether Anna would hold at any time. sammy01 Aug 31st, 2009, 10:38 PM Some top players not must to play Moscow this year, so she has a good chance playing good at home and gain more points. She has nothing to defend at Moscow. She'll play before Seoul and Tokyo. im so happy shes playing seoul, she could really gain confidence there with a good run. the entry list isn't great, so she shouldn't fear anyone. she has to be gunning for top 32 by the end of year. Daszmarelli Aug 31st, 2009, 10:41 PM and then she'll be back to top 20. She only needs more confidence. Noctis Aug 31st, 2009, 10:47 PM I really want her to beat Vera! Go for it Anna! Iggy Aug 31st, 2009, 11:30 PM Well, this beats a first round exit. At least she kept her focus for the most part and didn't melt down. Nicely done, Anna. Can anyone summarize what happened? Chaky cried during the match? Wintermute Sep 2nd, 2009, 07:19 PM It's a tale of two Annas. At the end of the first set I was thinking to myself, "How can she possibly be ranked as low as she is given the set that she just played?" She was calm and composed, she served well and hit the lines. She even followed a nice down-the-T serve in to net and followed up with a good drive volley winner. Second set and it all became apparent. It was a different Anna who walked out, for no apparent reason. She started making sloppy errors. Her serve percentage dropped. Her body language became noticeably negative and this is the thing that seems most problematic to me. She's just sending signals to the opponent showing that she's frustrated and annoyed. She could easily sort this out and I think it would actually help the rest of her game. I will say that Vera wasn't playing too well in the first set and definitely stepped her game up after that but it's no excuse for the collapse by Anna. She kissed Vera on both cheeks at the net, shook the umpire's hand and then I couldn't quite see but it sounded like she smashed her racquet on the ground. Clearly immensely frustrated. Anna was looking at her coach numerous times in the second and third set with desperation in her eyes. smokovec Sep 2nd, 2009, 08:04 PM I agree with Wintermute, perfect description of this Match, why Anna can't play more often like the 1st set???? Anna needs more calm during the bad parts of a Match, because the difference is too big between good and negative phases. gdot Sep 2nd, 2009, 08:29 PM chak  i do think she is defintely sorting herself out. she has shown she can still compete with top players and if she sorts out her mental its only a matter of time.. Gdog Sep 14th, 2009, 05:46 PM I'm really glad she won her first match. It's too bad she short circuited again in her second match with things going so well. It has been really depressing as a fan of hers the past couple of years. I was seeing Anna on tv regularly in 2007 and have seen her play on tv about 1 time in the last 2 years. I really hope she gets things together at the end of this year, so she can enter into 2010 as a new improved Anna.
