Who has a right to tell you what to do?

Does anyone really have a right to tell you what you should do or what you shouldn't do? Or even, Does anyone really have a right to tell you that you have to do something?

technically no, but there are lots of situations where people can... ie if you are in prison, or if you are at work, and your boss tells you to do something...

Go and tell that to a housewife in India. Some persons, like myself, must do what their parents say. Don't know where you're from, but jump back down to reality. Not everyone can be an American and talk back to their parents or not be back at a certain time. Of course, people don't have to listen, but given the harsh degree of punishment, and you're used to a dictatorship world or society, you will do as told.

The reality is, while you are still depending on somebody (parents/relatives), you'll have to follow their rules otherwise move out and rule your own life.

Generally, Parents always think what is best for you.:angel:

my opinion is that you should always make a decision wich you think is the best because when it goes wrong you can only blame yourself.

Regardless - without certain laws and ideals set for a given society, it would be - as already stated - "utter chaos".

Thus as a means to sustain social order, someone(s) has the authority to maintain that order.

Though, I live in a democracy. If you don't agree with the restraint given, you can always protest it.

in terms of freinds and family, none of them have the "right" to tell you what to do - not in my society at least.

I suppose that there are place in the world where some of the given do have that right, but I can only speak of what I know.

there simply no such thing as total freedom. you'll have to obey rules whether you like it or not.

ERM.......obviously there are laws but if you mean in everyday life, if someone tells you what to wear, who to speak to, who to be friends with etc etc then tell them to sod off.

Lead your own life, don't let anyone lead it for you but also compromise (if the other person is also willing to compromise)

I never said you wouldn't be punished. It's like if some cop told me to do something, and I said no, I might get my ass kicked, but I'm not gonna bow down to anyone just coz some stupid law says that he's the authority.
