Wichita St. backed out and they just hired a new head coach. If the original team on that DC trip was Maryland, well they just hired a new head coach too.

Interesting but not surprising to see if these were cases of newbie coaches on rebuilding teams backing out of scheduling tough non-conference opponents.

Gouci... is it me or do CSUN, Davis and Riverside have record setting numbers of D2 and just becoming D1 (Bakersfield w/no league affliation) teams on their schedule?

I mean that just crushes the conference strength rating playing NON D1 matches.... and they each have a bunch.

Fullerton actually looks to have fewer than past years... but the other three ... wow that hurts those playing seriously.:banghead:This is my take. The number of D2 teams the bottom of the conference plays is irrelevant to UC Irvine & Long Beach St. I wasn't even aware they calculated a conference strength rating or used it in the rankings.

If the formula for getting an NCAA at-large is beating 4 ranked teams, then having more ranked teams in your conference makes that goal easier. What matters more to UCI & LBS is having the 3rd & 4th place Big West team be ranked at the end of the season. If only UCI & LBS are ranked than the Big West runner up needs to beat FOUR ranked non-conference opponents which is tough to do to get an at-large. But if the 3rd & 4th place BW teams are ranked that number drops down having to only beat TWO ranked non-conference teams for the runner-up to snag an at-large.

In 2008 & 2009 the 3rd & 4th best Big West teams were not ranked and the BW runner-up didn't get an NCAA at-large. But in 2007 Cal Poly & CSUN were both ranked at year's end and the Big West had 2 teams in the top 43 where either one would have received an at-large. That IS NOT a coincidence.

Cal Poly's inability to get ranked at season's end the last 2 seasons has led me to think UCI & LBS can't rely on the other 7 Big West teams to help their ranking at all. UCI & LBS will just have to improve to the point where they can beat 4 ranked non-conference teams on their own. Fortunately that seems to have happened this year. To allow room for error they'll need to schedule about 6 of these beatable ranked caliber teams since every year a few, like St. Mary's last year, end up disappointing for whatever reason.

Cal Poly books another terrible schedule. :smash::banghead:

All of Cal Poly's opponents fall into 1 of 2 categories. Teams they will easily beat or teams that will easily beat them! :haha::haha::haha:

Cal Poly needs to eliminate the cupcake teams and schedule the Nevadas and San Diego States of the college tennis world. :help:
The best teams to play are the ones you may barely beat 4-3.

Doubles
1. Matzenauer/Blalock (CP) def. Dimas/Mannix (CSUB), 8-2
2. Wong/Lee (CP) def. Diamanti/Horton (CSUB), 8-1
3. Filip/Pane (CP) def. Hutton/Thorneycroft (CSUB), 8-1

Singles
1. Blalock (CP) def. Dimas (CSUB), 6-1, 6-0
2. No. 98 Matzenauer (CP) def. Thorneycroft (CSUB), 6-0, 6-0
3. Wong (CP) def. Mijwel (CSUB), 6-0, 6-1
4. Filip (CP) def. Mannix (CSUB), 6-0, 6-0
5. Lee (CP) def. Horton (CSUB), 6-0, 6-1
6. Davis (CP) def. Hutton (CSUB), 6-1, 6-0

Interesting how Matzenauer and Blalock played doubles together. Just doubles ranking protection from a fluke loss to Bakersfield or a new pairing for conference play.

I was expecting Wong at #5 or #6. If Wong regains her play from 2 seasons ago and stays at #3 singles for the entire season then that's a big bonus for Cal Poly.

Cal Poly just going after what's within reach!

- UC Irvine and Long Beach St. will fight for the conference auto bid. That is probably out of Cal Poly's reach.

- Cal Poly has almost no chance of securing a NCAA at-large bid with their schedule. That is definitely out of their reach.

- Last season Matz lost to Stephanie Hammel. So most likely Jenifer Widjaja, Hammel and maybe Klaudia Malenovska or April Bisharat will fight it out for the NCAA singles bid. That is probably out of Matz and Blalock's reach.

- Last season in doubles neither of Cal Poly's ranked doubles team got into the NCAA doubles. So the Cal Poly coach is trying to get the only thing that's within Cal Poly's reach which is the auto doubles bid with Matz/ Blalock.

A NCAA doubles bid would at least send the Cal Poly 1-2 duo out in style.

Following in their head coach's overconfidence UCSB's top 3 singles, who played well against Arizona St. and Arizona, don't show up against Northern Arizona. :o

- I predicted St. Mary's would sweep both Fresno St. and Denver this weekend and absorb both teams overrated rankings. :bounce:

- A highly ranked St. Mary's is good for UCI and LBS if either can beat the Gaels. At the very least a loss won't hurt if St. Mary's is ranked higher.

- Fresno has lost so much from last season including the "St." at the end of their school name in the rankings.

Form, Thanks for standing up for Taylor Raney. I don't know what happened, but she was injured during doubles. She and McKay were up a break 6-5, and the way they had been holding, it looked life a safe set, but then Taylor was in obvious pain, and she made several errors in quick succession. She was in tears after the set. Not sure whether it would have made a difference in the outcome, but I am sure that Coach Henry would not be voluntarily resting any freshmen who need the experience even more than the other players. Elena might have made the difference, but a lot of UCR players were disappointed in their play after the match. It will be interesting to see how they respond, but these are all scholar athletes, and school will sometimes get in the way of their athletic performance.

Lau was a good junior player, and legitimate Division I prospect who chose to stay close to home. She always had wheels, could strike the ball, and knew her way around the net, but her consistency has improved dramatically which makes her a much tougher opponent. Some players stay about the same in a college program while others blossom. With only one match to base it on, I think she is going to be one of the latter.

Gouci, you should be pleased - Dallara played #1 against UCR today. And Form will be pleased that most of the girls spent enough time on court to get a good workout. LB did have a quick 15 minute practice after the match to get prepared for tomorrow.

The final decision was 7-0 in favor of the Beach, but #2, #3, and #5 all split sets, and even Dallara got a couple of hours of singles play in. Luzar played #6 and played well and was first off the court. She and Cantlay also came back from 4-7 to take the #3 doubles set in a tie-breaker.

I'm sure LB was caught looking past UCR, and may not have come prepared, but still it was nice to see all three of UCR's top players return to form, and UCR's #5 played a quality match as well. If UCR can tighten up their doubles play so they don't always start singles in the hole, I think they might threaten a few teams this year.

April Bisharat lost 9-7 in a 3rd set tie-breaker against then #98 Susie Matzenauer while Stefanie Hammel lost 0-6 in the 3rd to unranked Brittany Blalock. I think that justifies moving Bisharat to #1 against LBS if that's where Armstrong plays.

Hey, maybe your coach can bring Amy Trankino back to play # 1 yet again and push Hammel to # 2?

Congrats to the Beach! I will admit to pulling for UCI, but I still enjoyed the match. Credit to the Beach conditioning program that allowed the players to bounce back after a long day Friday, with no apparent ill effects.

I did watch quite a bit of Hammel's match, and she did seem to have trouble finding the right degree of aggression. She was letting the short balls bounce rather than taking them out of the air. When her back was against the wall down 2-5 in the 3rd, she picked up her level of aggression and began taking more risks with her groundies and taking balls out of the air which I think she had to do against a player with Dallara's speed. Dallara reminds me a lot of Alison Ramos in her ability to not only move quickly, but get her feet under her, and deliver a pin-point accurate passing shot. Must be something about that low center of gravity :)

Given that the #3 was pretty much an automatic UCI win, I think Hammel deserves full credit for the doubles point. Byron has decent groundies, but isn't yet an instinctive doubles player at the net and Hammel had to carry much of the load against a very strong team.

The match was really close. Either team could easily have won the doubles point as well #1 and #5 singles. Depending on how those broke, you could have ended up with anything from a 6-1 beating by the Beach to a 4-3 Irvine win.

It seems apparent that Friday's lineup was just a step towards getting Armstrong to #3, and Alawi to #2 which gave LB a big edge there. I will admit that Smith is likely to go undefeated in singles and doubles playing at 6 and 3 respectfully :)

after Smith won went home, I still didn't feel too safe here
fantic I know what you mean!
I've seen those Snoop Dog videos (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9sC8jgrb29o) showing how the LBC (Long Beach City) is really like. :scared:

fantic you should have mentioned to LBS that you were a foreigner (from your flag). I'm sure then they would have welcomed you with open arms. :hearts:

You just predicted UCI to win the league this week. May I remind you that prediction was made with Deborah Armstrong at #1. That prediction would have come true if Armstrong had played #1 yesterday!

UCI's top 3 brought their C game and not their A game like Form contends. Form must have been using the same mis-evaluation skills that had put Deborah Armstrong playing #1 against San Diego St. when she should really be playing #4 behind Rachel Manasse. UCI's top 3 along with the rest of the team will now be hungrier at the BWT. :lick:

I will admit that Smith is likely to go undefeated in singles and doubles playing at 6 and 3 respectfully :)LBS has already set a precedence on how many you can win without moving even 1 spot higher with Dallara winning 21 or her last 22 at #4 singles last season. Smith has already 1 loss to UCLA so she can stay put for the rest of the season.

I mean really... if someone wants to chat about stacking... move Smith to # 2 doubles and # 5 singles... and who wins versus Cal Poly?:(Above Form demonstrates he doesn't know what the hell he's talking about. But to answer the question UCI still wins vs Cal Poly.

1. Cal Poly WON the doubles point vs UCI so if Smith had played #2 doubles that wouldn't have helped Cal Poly. :cuckoo:

2. Kwan def. Alexa Lee 6-2,6-2 and Smith def. Markhoff 6-2,6-0 so again switching Smith and Kwan wouldn't have helped Cal Poly. :cuckoo:

Fantic, thanks! I will have to learn not to type after midnight :)

I think we all live in glass houses with respect to the lineups, and it is up to the coaches to determine what is acceptable. Dallara's move to #1 to face Hammel could easily be justified, and yet was no doubt intended to achieve a favorable matchup. Armstrong's drop from #2 to #3 after only one match, can't be justified on the objective facts, since she won (6-0,4-6,6-3) at UCR compared to Alawi's win (6-1,4-6,6-2) at #3. And yes, even lowly UCR has a lineup that is probably not quite in order of strength, though it doesn't change depending upon the opponent :)

In the final analysis, I think the LB coaches did their homework, and came in with matchups and strategies tailored towards defeating UCI, and the UCI coaching staff was not able to respond. If UCI wants to avenge the loss, the UCI coaches will have to do their homework as well.

I don't really much care about changing lineups, it can vary due to the respective player's style (match up), so..

Wouldn't it be a bit boring if the position are fixed? And I think it's a gamble changing lineup, who knows who can actually benefit from the change. Anything can happen, so ;) (so all the more exciting, I guess!)

That's my two cents about the issue.

I keep track of matches that may influence the rankings of Big West teams. UCI will play at UNLV.

Hammel lately has been playing to the level of her competition. Played up against Julia Trunk, played down against Brittany Blalock and Anais Dallara and stepped it up again against Katrina Zheltova. ;)

Dallara needs to beat more ranked players before that fluke win over Hammel puts Dallara in position for the NCAA singles tournament.

With wins over #46 Katrina Zheltova and #58 Julia Trunk, Hammel may get to actually challenge Jenifer Widjaja for that NCAA singles bid out of the Big West. :bounce:

If it rains it's God's way of saying the match is not meant to be played. The UW coach can be mad at God. UCI even canceled a huge Track & Field meet for that same day because of the rain.

Sac. St. from the 2/12 to the 2/18 rankings only beat UC Davis 6-1 but moved up 10 spots in the rankings. Oh by the way Sac. St.'s next opponent after the 2/18 ranking just happened to be Washington. Hmmmm.... maybe the unhappy UW coach that's a regional chair on the ranking committee needs to go to confession to explain Sac. St.'s shady 10 spot ranking jump without a big win but before playing UW.

Anais Dallara has lost 2 in a row.

It is funny how a fan of a team that has had no real success in the Big West Conference has to focus on the year in and year out conference champion to nit pick.

How many matches has UCI lost to LBSU in a row? How many times has UCI lost in the championship match? Has UCI ever won a conference championship?

Oh, Dallara has lost two in a row... that is where your focus should be and not why UCI has never reached there yearly goals.

Let me tell you in advance that Dallara will probably lose another match this year but she will be raising another conference championship trophy at the end year.

The next 2 weeks will be make or break time for the Big West in its non-conference schedule.

CS Northridge

vs South Carolina Upstate
@ San Diego
vs #60 Washington State

- Too bad SC Upstate dropped out of the rankings before CSUN got to play them. I think CSUN should be favored over them. It would be nice if CSUN could somehow win 2 of the 3.

#41 Dartmouth

@ #75 Cal Poly
@ UCSB
@ CSUN

- I'm hoping just 1 Big West team can upset Dartmouth.

Long Beach St.

vs #55 Minnesota
vs #54 Nebraska
vs #30 Ohio St.
vs #60 Washington St.

- Beating Ohio St. can put LBS over the top as a lock for an NCAA at-large.

UC Irvine

vs #54 Nebraska
@ #34 UNLV
vs #46 Boise St.

- Assuming UCI is at full strength I think they have a chance to knock off UNLV.

Even without help from the other Big West teams here's the conference game plan. UCI defeats the WAC (Boise St.) while LBS takes care of the Big 10 (Minnesota) & Pac 10 (WA St.). Then hopefully both UCI & LBS will beat the Big 12 (Nebraska). :bounce:

USC Upstate @ CS Northridge was canceled :fiery:

- USC Upstate is probably still in the top 100. But it seems like whenever a Big West team other than UCI or LBS has a chance to get a big non-conference win Murphy's Law goes into effect.

Pepperdine is another team that shouldn't be ranked. All these matches where they are getting killed are at home. Now they are on the road for awhile.

Pepperdine is another team that shouldn't be ranked. All these matches where they are getting killed are at home. Now they are on the road for awhile.
Pepperdine defeated #31 Rice and #34 UNLV. However all of Pepperdine's losses have been to top 40 teams including 6 losses from teams in the top 15.

Pepperdine also has a player Khunpak Issara who had an ITF ranking high of #32, so a potential #1 singles player for them, that's been missing in action this Spring.

# 54 Nebraska 7-0 over # 52 Colorado ... Nebraska (11-1) has played 11 of 12 at home and all indoors so far
Nebraska justed added Patricia Veresova this Spring. She's a 20 year old freshman with a WTA ranking high of #529.

I'm hoping Veresova is still ineligible by the UCI match  but begins in time for Big 12 play. :lick:

CSUN must be improving rapidly

Minnesota coach pulls bonehead move of all time... LMU is awful but if you pull your top players after easily sweeping doubles... I guess you deserve to get beat don't you.

Pepperdine is better than # 50... their loses are all to pretty good teams

St. Mary's losing to SDSU is mystifying... no doubt that won't happen again.

Ivy League is massively over rated. Princeton, Yale and Dartmouth should be around 50-60 at best but being northeast coast hides them.

And those polls are a joke that over rate some regions and some leagues. Arizona was once top 40 and that was a joke. Then getting thumped by Wazoo... who then gets thumped by Northridge and the CSUN D2 schedule of the year. Somebody massively over rates the bottom half of some BCS (Pac 10) leagues. Neither will finish ranked this year most likely... though Wazoo still has some good non conf matches left to redeem themselves. As I said sometime ago, it then takes several spins of the 'computer' to clean that committee poll up. The ITA should spin the computer twice every week and not just the last week.

Minnesota pulled them not to rest them but because they were both hurt. They were able to play a less stress on the body doubles match but not singles.

If the computer is being used now why aren't they showing the point totals for each team?

Does it cost money for the ITA to spin the computer? I agree why not just run it twice every week.

Cal Poly upsets #38 Darmouth 6-1 (http://www.gopoly.com/index.php?p=sports&id=30011&article_id=92271)

This might be one of the biggest wins Cal Poly has ever had. I don't recall the mustangs ever beating a higher ranked team.

This season:
Big West = 1
Ivy League = 0

The 6-1 score makes me think that UCSB and CSUN has a chance of upsetting Dartmouth too. :lick:

If UCSB can beat Dartmouth added to their UCI win they will be ranked at year's end. If CSUN can beat Dartmouth added to their Washington St. win they might be ranked at year's end. If UCSB and CSUN both beat Dartmouth the Big West might get 5 teams ranked at the end of the year.

Having Cal Poly, UCSB and CSUN all ranked may boost both LBS and UCI into the top 30 and receiving winnable NCAA 1st round match-ups. :bounce:

What is wrong with Hammel? She got hurt in Fullerton match a couple weeks ago.

Form what are the tie-breakers if Cal Poly, UCI and UCSB all finish with 2 losses?

It's bad news for Hammel and UCI. She had a fiberglass cast on her arm. :drink:

Trying to be objective... so here goes

LB was awful today.

# 36 (temporarily) Long Beach 1, # 45 Ohio State 6

OSU totally dominated doubles. Where has LB's doubles gone?
In singles, Manasse rocks at # 4 and Armstrong drops tough 6-7, 6-2, 0-1 at # 3

The rest... LB beat LB.... completely outclassed at # 1 and # 5. At # 2, Dallara up 5-2 and serving in first and loses 7-5, 6-3

Has LB been over achieving all year without true # 1 or was this a bad day. Either way, LB beat LB with countless unforced errors.

See, I can be objective about my favorite team. Ick. Bad news for the whole league... this was a real opportunity lost.

Playing good teams will do that to you. Ohio State is a lot better then their ranking. They lose to Purdue and they dropped like a rock. They are a top 25-30 team.
These rankings make you shake your head with how they are moving teams all over the place.

Some objective analysis on 2 matches.

- UCSB's team of Natalia Lozano & Jordan Dockendorf which had played #1 doubles the last 16 matches was dropped to #2 doubles against weak LMU. This drop IMHO is a calculated move geared for a better chance of beating CSUN & Long Beach St. UCSB also has one of their best doubles players Jill Damion playing #3 doubles.

- UCSB has Jill Damion playing #4 singles to match up against one of the biggest strengths of both CSUN & LBS. Jordan Dockendorf who had been playing #3 singles was dropped to #5 singles vs weak LMU. Again gearing up for CSUN & LBS.

- Annabel Gledden which has been one of UCSB's most reliable players has been moved from #4 to #3 singles. CSUN's #3 has lost 4 in a row. And IMHO Gledden has a better chance to upset LBS's #3 Deborah Armstrong than #4 Rachel Manasse.

- Looks to me like UCSB is solidifying #2 & #3 doubles and banking on #3, #5 & #6 singles against both CSUN & LBS.

#47 Boise St. def. #70 UCI 6-1 (http://www.ucirvinesports.com/sports/w-tennis/recaps/032810aaa.html)

- With UCI's #1 Stephanie Hammel out UCI's best chance to beat a ranked team is to sweep #2, #3, #4, & #5 singles.

- UNLV's #2 thru #5 singles is much better than Boise St.'s 2-5 singles. With UNLV being especially tough at #2 & #3 singles UCI has little to no chance of beating UNLV without Hammel. But UCI has a 50% chance of beating Boise St. even without Hammel based on Boise St.'s softer 2-5 singles. The strength of BS lies in doubles, #1 & #6 singles.

- Since April Bisharat retired vs New Mexico St. the most important thing for UCI in my mind was to have Bisharat playing #1 vs Boise St. at any cost. This should have been the priority even if it meant sitting Bisharat out vs UNLV, which looked like a lost cause anyway for UCI.

- In my humble opinion UCI needed to go "all in" vs Boise St. even if it meant folding against UNLV. Instead the UCI coaching staff gambled big time & lost by playing Bisharat against UNLV at the risk of her retiring vs UNLV and being out against the more winnable Boise St. That's exactly what happened. :banghead:

- A bird in hand is better than 2 in the bush comes to mind. Although it might have been just bad luck that Bisharat had to retire against UNLV and miss Boise St. it was certainly preventable by treating Boise St. as a "must win" and saving Bisharat for them.

You may think Armstrong is weaker than Manasse... but Armstrong is 10-1 (I believe) since moving down to # 3... and I think you would agree she likely sees tougher opposition every match than a player does at # 4.... assuming not everbody stacks.
Rachel Manasse has gone 14-1 at #4 singles with all her wins in straight sets. If Armstrong vs Manasse is a pick your poison for UCSB I would pick Armstrong based on her going to 3 sets 6 times since dropping from #1 singles including going 3 sets against CS Fullerton and UC Riverside.

LBS campus was nice.. :)

Today LBS prepared a STICKER & A PAPER MAGNET LISTING TENNIS AND VOLLEYBALL SCHEDULE

:worship:

Does St. Mary specialize in slices? :rolls: All players pretty much execute that very well..it really

helped on their doubles matches, too, methink.

#3 Armstrong was today rock solid...seemed calm too. I thought A would have difficulty

handling Chikhikvishvili's (is this right? :help: ) 's power drives, but no problem. Excellent

control.

#4 Soper vs Manasse

First want to thank Ms. Soper for her kindness.

She this time performed the 'leg through' WHENEVER POSSIBLE :worship: (form did you see her

bouncing the ball before serving?) Previously I rated that below Ms. Wolf (LSU)'s original

but changed my mind. Whereas Wolf and Schnack performed that while standing, Soper did it

while WALKING. That merits extra point

Soper's defense trumped Manasse's offense. M's drives are quite powerful but S was agile

enough to get to the ball and return it. Her slices helped to slow down the pace. And her drives

were quite sharp too. Soper's control was superior to M's. M made too many UEs.

#2 Dallara vs Poorta

1st set was EXCELLENT. EXCELLENT. Dallara showed a textbook response to Poorta's usual

delay game.

ATTACK THE NET. She came to the net whenever possible, and executed beautiful volleys.

She was even successful in the rallying battle.

Then the situation turned around. Dallara missed some putaway chances, Poorta regained

her composure..2nd and early 3rd set was completely Poorta's game. Slow and long rally.

Maybe Dallara wasn't aggressive enough. Didn't come to the net more often. D did rally later

on and came close, 4-5 in the 3rd set.

#1 Alawi vs Isip

Didn't see much, watched the first and last few games. Isip was a better attacker.

All together highly entertaining match. It wasn't an easy win for St. Mary, for sure.

some tidbits;

*There was some eerie chanting  First I thought it was a team fight-song or something. Found out that it was coming from

the adjacent soccer field. (felt like a vigil ! )

*St. Mary's players wore hood jackets, on the back which were engraved each player's first name.

Such as... Alisa. And.. MOLLS (but...shouldn't it be Molly? )

*One spectator sported a cap on the back which the following phrase was engraved;

'BYPASS THE BYPASS' :haha:

* Alex Poorta executed a beautiful cross court drop shot on the run while playing doubles. :worship:

UCI destroys San Diego and instead of giving UCI credit your conclusion without having seen the match in person is that San Diego had quit. Form your huge anti-UCI bias is showing.

Perhaps St Mary's was looking ahead?Form your bias is causing you to come up with flawed reasoning. Why would St. Mary's who's trying to win the WCC regular season title look past a ranked conference opponent in San Diego in favor of a non-conference match vs LBS? :cuckoo:

I would love your thought on how USD could be so bad against wounded Irvine and competitive 3 days later cause the USD scores vs UCI were not compeitive. Have the Eater magic seeds returned?Let me 1st talk about why the San Diego vs St. Mary's match was more competitive.

1. USD vs SMC was a conference match. Those inter league face-offs can be closer because teams are more familiar against other teams in their conference.

2. USD had a chance at a 3-way tie for 1st place in the WCC by knocking off 1st place St. Mary's who had already given Pepperdine 1 loss in conference. This probably gave San Diego extra motivation.

Now some reasons why UCI was fired up and crushed San Diego.

1. Four of UCI's players for some time had been forced to play 2 spots higher than where they started the season. Being thrown into the fire will result in more losses but a hidden benefit is the players will probably improve having played the better competition. Now anytime these players move back down like against San Diego the result is more confidence against easier competition lower in the line-up.

2. UCI has had it's #1 & #2 singles injured for most of the season. Losing to several ranked teams that a healthy UCI probably could have defeated was very frustrating. So when April Bisharat came back against San Diego that probably fired up the entire team.

3. San Diego was UCI's final home match of the season. This was extra motivation for UCI to win.

Hypothetical scenario. If TCU wins the Mountain West their ranking can improve greatly.

4th cycle - UCI's increase will pull up the points for LBS

But that 3rd and 4th cycle will not happen. They should spin the computer 5 times not just 2 at the end of the season. But we're dealing with the ITA here and not mathematicians. :help:

UCSB should have nothing to be pissed about after the way they were gift wrapped the #2 seed.

As for Stephanie Hammel what a warrior. :worship:

Pacific's Julia Hansen can be really good when she's on like today. In dual matches Hansen has defeated 4 star Erin Wiesener 6-1,6-0 and San Francisco's #3 singles 6-1,6-0. So Hammel fared better against Hansen than some other healthy players have. ;)

UCI's doubles stacking? :) wasn't effective against LBSU, credit to LBS.

In the singles, UCI won BOTH 1&2 AND 5&6

Fantic you hit the nail on the head! :worship::worship::worship:

Hammel's match was going to be one of the last singles match to finish. That is proof of how COMPETITIVE the match was.

A protest was filed against UCI. There were no penalties slapped against UCI and or did UCI have to forfeit anything. You will not find mention in any release about UCI cheating or doing anything illegal. That's because the ruling from the protest was UCI DID NOT cheat.

The likely outcome minus Hammel

1. Byron (UCI) def. Alawin (LBS) = happened
2. Bisharat (UCI) def. Dallara (LSB) = happened
3. Barlett (UCI) def. Armstrong (LBS) = most likely to happen
4. Kwan (UCI) vs Manasse (LBS) = Kwan playing great so coinflip
5. Smith (UCI) def. Jeczmionka (LBS) = most likely to happen
6. Cantlay (LBS) def. Holladay (UCI) = most likely to happen

In last years Big West Tourney Barlett won the 1st set vs Armstrong and was close to winning the 2nd when the match was stopped.

Most likely result minus Hammel is UCI wins 4-2 with Kwan - Manasse unfinished in 3rd set.

Hey fantic did you get a chance to watch either #44 Kristi Boxx or #116 Karen Nijssen play at the Riviera All American Tourney?

Alison Ramos def. Boxx 6-3,6-4 and Aeriel Ellis def. Nijssen 4-6,6-2,6-1.

If you saw either one any scouting report on their games? :help:

I saw them and also saw Boxx at NCAA but can't really say :help: Didn't pay much attention to their matches.

Anyway Boxx is a national player, along with Frilling, Marks, etc..not that powerful, but could keep the ball in play..

Also Miss. doubles were pretty good..and if Nijssen went to 3-setter against Ellis, she must be pretty good too.

Sorry for not being of much help.

1. #12 Boxx/Nijssen (MS) def. Kwan/Holladay (UCI) 8-4
2. Byron/Smith (UCI) led Vogel/Rangel (MS) 5-4
3. Guthrie/van de Stroet (MS) def. Hayley Young/Bisharat (UCI) 8-4

1. Courtney Byron (UCI) led #44 Kristi Boxx (MS) 6-4,5-3
2. April Bisharat (UCI) vs #116 Karen Nijssen (MS) 1-6,6-3
3. Connor Vogel (MS) def. Stephanie Hammel (UCI) 6-2,6-0
4. Abby Guthrie (MS) led Becka Kwan (UCI) 6-3,3-4
5. Laura van de Stroet (MS) def. Kristina Smith (UCI) 6-2,6-2
6. Gabby Rangel (MS) def. Hannah Holladay (UCI) 6-2,6-3

Considering UCI was missing their regular #4 singles and they were playing a potential #1 seed in Ole Miss, until Texas edged them out in the last minute, a good showing by UCI.

- Courtney Byron continues her excellent play and was on the verge of defeating #44 Kristi Boxx 6-4,5-3. :bigclap:
- April Bisharat took her match with nationally ranked #116 Karen Nijssen to 3 sets.
- Becka Kwan was in position to possible extend her match to 3 sets also.

Wow, that's a strong showing by Miss. #5, defeating Smith that easily.#5 singles Laura van de Stroet played 23 dual matches at #3 last season for Ole Miss. which explains the strong showing. ;)
