If this was a year ago i would say that Spain is the favourite, because Virginia Peña was the masters nike international runner up, and she had easy victories against good players like Konjuh or Ferro. But she was injured all this year, in fact she hadn't play an entire tournament in all this year. Payola is one of the best players of 1998, but of course she is a year younger, so i don't know if she'll be able to defeat top players one year younger. Badosa is a very good player, and spain has a good double, so i think they will get at least as good results as last year (spain end 5th last year).
France has a good team, and they always do good results in this competition (they end in second place the two years). Germany has a really good team too.
The two former champions are probably the favourites, even i think that Ukrania and Russia have very strong number ones but not so strong number twos.
Thrusday we'll get the first round results

Too bad Kyra Akinnibi didn't play for GBR. She would have made the team extremely tough to beat!

Yes, with Kyra, GBR team options will be a lot higher

I've heard about Anastasia Rychagova and from what I've heard she is extremely talented girl.
C'mon Nastya lead Russian team to win!

Well, the groups are not posted yet (the final is like the qualifications and it's played in round robin), but todays matches are:

France - Spain
Ukraine - Croatia
Great Britain - Russia
Germany - Italy

The most interesting match is the France - Spain, both are strong teams. In the other matches i think Ukraine, Russia and Germany are the clear favourites

Group A
Great Britain - Russia - Germany - Italy

Group B
Ukraine - Croatia - France - Spain

Group A has two clear favourites, the winner of the Russia-Germany match must be the finalist of that group. Group B is tough, even with the today's result is difficult to predict, but right now the favourites are Ukraine and Spain

Today's matches

Final: Ukraine - Russia, my pick is Ukraine, Ploskina seems the strongest number 2, and even Rychagova is slighlest favourite against Kalinina (i predict a very close match) i think Ukraine has a strong doubles team

3-4: Spain - Germany, tough match, probably will be some changes in the teams, but i pick Spain to win (i'm not neutral here)

5-6: Croatia - Great Britain, difficult to predict, Konjuh is clear favourite in her match, but the others are difficult to predict, probably GB win the number two match, but i think Croatia will prevail 2 1

7-8: France - Italy, this two teams have recent matches, always won France, but both were very close. I predict France to win

Ukraine was clearly the best team. It was a pity that Peña was just returnin from a long injury break, but i'm proud of the spanish girls (and our number one was the only number one born in 1998 so she could try next year).

Virginia was the runner up in last year's masters nike international. She was doing really well, but she get injured last year, and in 2009 she only played 1 match before this championship. She did really well there, in that circunstances.
Spanish girls seems quite good from 1996 and younger (far better than previous years).

This is the second year that one team ends with both players undefeated. Ploskina and Kalinina won all their matches. The first champions of the tournament Russia did the same with Putintseva and Khromacheva two years ago.
Last year two players won all their matches, but they weren't in the same team, they were russian Ksenia Sharifova and spanish Sara Sorribes

Ploskina and Kalinina are following in good footsteps with Putintseva and Khromacheva then. I'll be following their progress closely (and Virginia Pena, who is obviously just as talented).

Kalinina in fact has a very good ranking in u14, the same for Ostapenko (latvia)and specially Bencic (switzerland)(who is trained by Melanie Molitor, in fact i read a couple of articles that compared this girls game with Hingis). 1997 seems a good year.
Virginia needs to play more tournament to get fit again, and specially totally recover from her injury.

In spain 1998 seems a really good year, our number one, Julia Payola was born in 1998, and we have a good bunch of prospects of that year. I hope that this generation really works because we have a lot of bad generations of juniors, and female tennis in spain needs a lot more promising girls
