Choose Your Band!
Welcome to "Choose Your Band!"! It's a simple game and you need just a minute to play it. All you have to do is choosing one player from each bracket. Players are divided into brackets by their ranking, but sometimes a player might be bumped to balance the brackets(only in extreme cases like players coming back from retirement or injuries).
Scoring
The formula used to determine a score of a player is: RESULT = ACHIEVED RESULT - EXPECTED RESULT, where RESULT>=0, so you can't lose points by picking someone.
Expected result is a result based on player's position on entry list:
1 to 4 - semifinal
5 to 8 - quarterfinal
9 to 16 - Last 16
17 to 32 - Last 32
(...)
Points are based on WTA's points schelude made for certain type of tournament, so in Stanford we'll use Premier points(470/320/200/120/60/0). Please note that I will assign 0 points for first round.
Qualifiers and Wild Cards are assigned in order they appear in draw and their points will be doubled.
(note: if there will be 5 Q/LL's in the draw of Stanford, we will use only first four ones)
Withdrawals
When a player withdraws, a random player from same bracket will be chosen.
Everyone who had the player chosen will have her replaced by same player.
The deadline is the SCHELUDED time of start of first match of tournament's main draw.

then:
1. Dementieva
2. A. Radwanska
3. Hantuchova
4. Mattek Sands
<facepalm>
Sorry, I have messed the formula :p, of course you'd get 270 points. I have changed it now and you can edit the pick if you want, of course.

My picks:
Bracket 1 (expected points 200)
1. Serena Williams
I'm not sure what it means to pick a player from each bracket... are they the 4 picks to win the tournament?
Well, they are the players you pick to do the best in the tournament. However, if a player underachieves(for example a top 4 seed falls in quarterfinal), you will get no points. The less expected player's run is, the more points you get:
Picked Top 4 player wins tournament - you get 270 points(470 for a win - 200 expected)
Picked 5-8 player wins tournament - you get 350 points
Picked 9-16 player wins tournament - you get 410 points
Picked 17-32 player wins tournament - you get 470 points
Same goes with every round :)
Thanks everyone for posting your picks, please go on! :)

what you do is look at the 4 different lists (brackets) and pick one player from each one so you will end up with 4 players; one from each bracket:)

:p IMO ,you should not let people edit their posts and you should let they choose their bands after the draw is out  because it could make them avoid changing picks a lot :p
And if they want to change they should copy the old draws
1. Serena Williams
8. Marion Bartoli
24. Sharapova
18. Chakvetadze

Thanks for comment, I really appreciate any feedback. I'll update the rules when we'll play Los Angeles as I think there will be enough players playing every week :bounce:
