Well guys, hopefully it'll be title 101, cos as you know Arantxa and Sveta are in the final in Tokyo! Hope that they'll be playing here together too - what a great partnership they're turning into!

Actually I think the goal now is to have more titles than "that Novotna girl" ---- anyone know how many that is??? For some reason, 104 seems to stick out in my mind.....

So, to rethink here, Bali would be a great place for a 101st title! :)

Gallofa

Yeah, Evil Jana has 104 titles, 24 singles, 76 doubles, 4 mixed. So, that would be a new incentive, to beat her in No. of titles :p :D

Vamos Arantxa!!!!

Ahha! I was right about the 104! Great, then I think that is a *very* attainable goal! :) It was funny, when I spoke to Arantxa after she got her 99th title in New Haven, I said something to her like, "Well, you know, there are only five women who have over 100 titles..... and Jana is one of them!" and she said "Jana! Pfff!"and she made this gesture with her fingers like blowing a horn...?? [I took that to be a derogatory gesture -- *LOL*!!)

Anyway, if that's a goal that will keep Arantxa playing, then VAMOS!!!! I'm feeling a little doubtful that she and Sveta can get another title here [repeats in doubles seem pretty rare and I see Conchi and Pato have reteamed -- AGAIN -- and you know if Pato is "on", there is just no hope for anyone! like Amelia Island 2001!] -- but nevertheless, I will be cheering long and loud for "our" team!!! VAMOS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

GOOD LUCK ARANTXA! She plays against the winner of Dominikovic and Vivi. :)

ARGH! Arantxa has to get over 104! That will be the end of discussion in that dispute her and Jana had in 96-98. ;)

Please Refresh my memory of the dispute Jana and Arantxa had. As I recall, Jana was VERY jealous of Arantxa after Arantxa beat her in the Olympics, but thats all I recall.

Jason, after Arantxa beat Jana at the Olympics, Jana said it was very "bad" of Arantxa to treat her own doubles partner so badly (so like what? she expected that Arantxa should *let* her win???!!) Anyway, when the three of them were on the medal podium, Jana made a big display of congratulating Lindsay, but she gave Arantxa an icy stare and refused to shake hands with her. This really confused and hurt Arantxa. Bud Collins commented on this the entire rest of 1996, saying that Jana's lack of sports(wo)manship was a terrible thing to behold.

One word: jealousy..Arantxa I think beat Jana 3 or 4 times in 96, including the Olympics SF and French Open SF, it continued on to 1997 Wimbledon where they added more comments. Fortuntately, I think it ended 1998 when Arantxa beat Jana at Key Biscayne (which gave one of Jana's worst defeats ever)..and Arantxa went on to win the French and Jana went on to win Wimbledon. But I think the fuse is still alive between them though. ;)

Hey guys! from a post from GM:

"The WTA Tour came out with its gold and silver exempt lists for 2003. The "winners" were Anna Kournikova, Amanda Coetzer, Alexandra Stevenson and Arantza Sánchez-Vicario"

I am not sure how this works, but I assume Arantxa had to ask for the gold exempt, right? so that would mean she'll still play in 2003!!! :D :D

Excellent! Plus that means Arantxa will get entry into top grade tourneys *if* her ranking doesn't support it! :)

Yeah, Jana would had beaten ANYONE at crying, both happy and sad crying, she had it down to an Olympic sport :p

Arantxa defeated Vivi 6-2 7-6. Much as I like Vivi, this is a good win for Arantxa, who should jump on court everyday thinking she's facing a Spanish girl (she does seem to have an extra incentive to stay as the best Spanish).

Let's continue rolling!!!! :D

Did you guys see the article about Arantxa's goodwill backfiring? I can imagine Arantxa chatting incesantly with EVERYONE about how great Bali was, and this year, everyone has shown up! :D
