Serena couldn't have asked for a weaker opponent.

Serena the favourite, shouldn't really lose.

but go Vivi!!! She is good on the clay and does have a game to mix it up and move Serena around. Hopefully it's a good match.

VRP has got nothing in her game to trouble Serena or any other top-20 player, NOTHING.

:spit: VRP leads the H2H 1-0 and beat Serena on grass.
If VRP can beat Serena on grass then on clay.......:scared:

I don't know how in 11 years they've only managed to play each other once in singles.

Even in this form I don't see Serena losing bar a total self-destruction.

Serena doesn't play MM tournaments and VRP's ranking is not good enough to earn her a main draw spot in bigger events

VRP has got nothing in her game to trouble Serena or any other top-20 player, NOTHING.

At this stage in Virginie's career that is mostly true. But I would rephrase that statement just slightly. "VRP has got nothing in her game to trouble any player playing top-20 standard tennis. This thing is I don't think right now Serena is playing top 20 standard tennis on the clay. Top 50 perhaps but top 20? No.

Therefore while I still think Serena will still win in two I do think it will be a competitive match, something like 6-4 7-5.

Serena obviously is the favorite, and with a day off and a double's match under her belt, she should be sharp enough to win this one in 2.

OK, normally Serena win it easy in 2, but she`s not soooo good at the moment and it`s on clay.....!
This time Vivi :hearts: could win in 3 ;) !

Serena in two quick and easy sets. Virginia should play not to get double bagelled. After today's performance, Serena will be determined and take it out in her next singles match.

Serena 6-3, 6-1. Honestly, Klara is a tougher opponent and Serena will raise her game. VRP doesn't hit many winners/ues, so Serena will be able to execute her game and win easily.

I don't know why people are so quick to dismiss Ruano Pascual. We're talking about an 18 year veteran of the tour here. Clay is her best surface by far, she's a former Roland Garros quarterfinalist, and she plays a game full of variety that's rarely seen these days.

Of course Serena is supposed to steamroll through this match on paper if she's healthy, but she's still injured and barely beat the #100 ranked player in the world today. If she's not on her game, Ruano Pascual plays the type of tennis that's going to be a real pain in the ass for Serena to deal with. She'll more than likely win, but it won't be easy--something like 7-6 6-4 for Serena.

If Serena decides to up the ante and become a bigger hot mess than her sister, then we are alooking at an upset here.

Otherwise, she will do just fine.

Obviously Serena is the favorite, but I have two words: Nathalie Dechy. A veteran player with a smart, consistent game plan and lots of doubles experience always has a shot of pushing a top player in spotty form to the absolute brink. Virginia has a very high 1st serve percentage, she places the ball well, and she's very quick. She's not going to win a lot of points off winners from the baseline. But she can stretch a point and make Serena sweat, and she can also move forward quite a bit. She hasn't played Serena in singles since Serena was a promising kid, but she's played her a TON in doubles. She's got a good idea what she'll be facing.

I'm picking Serena, but it's not necessarily going to be a roll-over-and-die performance. Let's also remember this may be Virginia's last French Open. She's got a lot of motivation. I'm certainly going to enjoy this match, and I'm definitely going to enjoy seeing Serena getting all the practice and rallies VRP will force.
