For those 1R matches Hercog of course. Overall, Pavly of course.

I voted for Olivia because I really did not expect her to do so well.
She beat a player ranked more than 200 places above her...

Obviously Pavly is the cream of the crop but I was most surprised (and impressed) with Olivia's result.
Great fighting from Michelle to win; awesome win for Polona too.

Hercog and Martic are 18 already.

Pffft well you know what I mean.
I mean players of the year 1991 or younger.
People hiss when you say 'junior' because they no longer play juniors. I didn't want to say 18&U because I didn't want to include Diatchenko and the other 1990s

You could have added arantxa rus as well then.... She's december 13 1990. Pretty much in the same age group as the others.

Hercog. She's been amazing lately. Future top ten player, I'm sure.

That's just like saying 'oh she was almost born in 1991 so let's just make her eligible for another year in juniors

I am guessing you mean from their wins at this tournament seeing as though you posted all their first round wins.

From those wins, I'd have to say Hercog. Beating Kleybanova > beating Kirilenko, that's why Hercog's win is more impressive than Rogowska's in my book.

That's exactly why it's stupid not including a player that's less then 0-5 months older, because THAT is a stupid rule. A whole year of juniors difference because someone is born on januari 1 instead of december 31. That should have been changed ages ago.

What do you think the rule should be?

What do you think the rule should be?

There are Multiple options:

- Timelimit Allow them to play juniors a certain amount of months after they turn 18. Then not anymore.

- Tournamentlimit Allow them to play the next few(a certain amount of) junior tournaments after they turn 18.

- Allow them not to play any juniors anymore the week after they turn 18.

And i'm sure there can be thought of more. I don't buy this 'finish the year' crap for juniors. It's just not important for developing youngsters who are molded to perform on the senior tour. Let them worry about finishing good in the year-end rankings when they get to that stage.

Definetly not putting to cut at the yearchange. You could get a player who's almost 19 years old playing 16-17 year olds. Yet the player who was born on december 31 wasn't allowed to play juniors for almost a year already.

I have not seen any of those matches but Hercog stands out, Kleybanova was by far the biggest win of those listed.

Melanie Oudin isn't included in that list and she has higher rankings than all of them except Pavlyuchenkova (going by this weeks ranking). :o
I would say Pavlyuchenkova for sure. Anyone who gets that high at 17 has lots of talent. And she was ITF junior champ at what? 15? Impressive for sure.

I haven't seen Michelle play, but from what I can tell from her results she is doing rather well for 14? years old. if she's playing this well so young, she has a great future ahead for her.

Definately Hercog for me.

Dragonflame, I can see advantages and disadvantages to the year-end system. But I do agree that it is not appropriate any more for nearly-19s to be playing juniors. Heck, some players are on their way to a million dollars in professional earnings by that stage.

Why are people saying Michelle? She beat mel south on clay. :spit: and even that was a struggle.

And Michelle is 16 btw. Shes no Tati. :inlove:

And Michelle Larcher de Brito shoots to the top of the class with a 6/4 6/3 win over the 15th seeded Jie Zheng

I wish Michelle went by Micaela, I like it more.

Pavly cause she was seeded and had way more pressure than the others (Hercog was good tho)
