Typical first round hiccup for the seven time Grand Slam champion. Is she vulnerable on dirt or was this just one of her usual hiccups?

Both:lol:

Obviously if you want to beat Venus clay is your best chance and early in the tournament, and Beth played great tennis in that second set today, really had good volleys, great returns at times, so she played well:p

Venus being Venus.

Clay certainly makes it more difficult for her to be steady but she's always so up and down.

She always surprises me at the US Open because it's where she looks the best from the get go usually.
Unfortunately doesn't always translate into a win, but that's another discussion. :(

Venus has always been most vulnerable on clay. 5 out her last 10 FO results she has lost before the QF compared to

AO: 4/10
WIM: 2/10
USO: 1/10

She's vulnerable on dirt based on her stats... but that's the thing, if you see her losing the first set - you'd immediately think that the match will go into third set. :)

Yes, her last 3 US Opens (2005,2007, and 2008) she looked liked the favorite until the QF :fiery:

It's just Venus, the win is mostly up to herself. But I expected a tough match today, Venus on clay, kinda hints that ^^

Safarova would be dangerous for Vee
