Well, you still have Dushevina ;)

If it depended on me I would prohibit Dushevina from stepping onto a tennis court and sentence her coaches (those who're resposible for her fugly technique) to a life-time term cos watching Dushevina playing tennis should be considered a torture and a crime against humanity.

Way to go Mariana :worship:

I had a feeling about this one. If you have to draw a seed at RG, then Chaky was probably the best bet. Mari is a nice little clay court player with a big spin serve, nice speed and great touch. She must have played well. Wish I could have seen this one.

Well done Mari!! now go after your second round!!

It's not like Anna lost to a dummy here, no matter what Mariana's ranking says right now. She's a strong player who could arrive in the top 30 in the next two years or so, if her clay court performance is a guide.

Anna, if she got through this she probably would have gone on to own Jankovic.

Pathetic, were is her confidence?

Hopefully her flat strokes start firing away better on the grass.

Part of me is intrigued, part of me thinks to be scared...
Uh, is it the fish that clowns sometimes stick in their jackets?
Or is it the old curry paste lurking at the bottom of the fridge you'd only dare eat after four pints and feeling really desperate?
Oh I got it. It's anchovies. Ugh!

faboozadoo15
May 25th, 2009, 10:41 PM
Wow, this is a new low. She's got way way too much talent for this kind of loss. She was gifted a nice draw and completely cocked it up. This has to be terrible for her confidence, a blow she doesn't need.

What, other than being robbed, has added to her decline? It hardly makes sense.

Well done Mariana!!! Great job on beating the slumping grump!! :D
She was unlucky to lose to Hercog after being close to victory in the final round of qualies.
Remember, it was just 2 years ago Marianita made the Junior Final here, took the opening set off Cornet in the final, and took down Pavyluchenkova and Larcher De Brito. The first win of many in Roland Garros for Colombia's future!!!

Felicidades MARI!!!!!!!!! :woohoo: :D :yeah:

OK.... well I missed this result and match because 4 weeks ago I had a sub-arachnoid brain haemorrhage and so have been bed-bound in hospital until getting out today... I had no net access and the papers give patchy tennis results at the best of times, so this shameful result had escaped my radar (I gathered by the time I was reading about the 4th round that she'd lost early, but this is a truly hideous loss after Anna had seemed much more focused in the past few tournaments.)

Anyway, on to better news.... clay is gone and Wimbledon approaches! I don't think it's Anna's very best surface, despite her saying a few times that it is her favourite surface, but she moves and hits through her shots a ton better on grass than clay, so I am happy with the switch. Here's hoping she can mentally regroup after a Garros exit that surely must have dented her recovering confidence. Congrats to Duque Marino on securing a good win and taking advantage of the LL slot.

PS - Despite having had a shitty time lately (duh) - I'm doing pretty well, thanks for the nice thoughts, folks! All things considered, I have made a pretty great recovery and my prognosis is now pretty much plain sailing... they were able to fix the aneurysm that caused the bleed and I'm no longer in a particularly high risk bracket in terms of suffering further complications. I will have to be very low key for a few months while I recover physical strength and I'll need to go back once a year for a brain scan to check that the problem stays fixed. Soooo... pretty bummed to suffer this freak problem at only 27, but glad and fortunate to come out of it without any major side-effects or problems.
